Booked this holiday 48 hours before departure, on a Half board basis and as i hadn't read much into the property i was a little nervous.

We arrived on the 18.06.2010 at around midnight, and the hotel looked ok. When we checked in, the man took us to look around two different room types, the first, with twin beds, no nice view and no air con. The second room had a double bed, with a sea view. We did have to pay 6 euros a day for air con, 3 a day for the t.v, and 3 for the fridge, so after adding all this together can be quite costy.
Rooms are all very clean, and cleaned every day, and hotel is kept in very good condition.
The first day we spent by the pool, and the hotel is literally on the beach. Quite a strong breeze, therefore i got very burnt on the first day!!
Breakfast in the hotel was standard, continental breakfast - cold cheeses and meats.
As the food in the pool bar cost about 8-10 euros for a lunch, everyday we would go across to the shop opposite the hotel, which sold everything!! For a coke/lemonade at the pool bar you were paying 1.80 euro, and the shop sold them at 90 cent! Definatly a money saver! Dinner in the evening was alright, there were a choice of 7 or 8 dishes, but we ended up eating out twice as it does get a bit repetitive.

The hotel is situated in Stalis, and there are plenty of bars, shops and restaurants on the strip on which the hotel is situated. No noise when inside the hotel at all. Large swimming pool!

A couple of nights during our week holiday we walked up to Malia, which is a twenty minute walk, but taxis cost around 7 euros to get there.

On the last night, we went to an AMAZING chinese restaurant called summer palace, whichs is on the right hand side if walking down to the bottom end of stalis. The food is amazing, and Danny, the guy that works there is fantastic entertainment!! Highly recommended!!!

Across from the hotel, there is also a shop where you can book your excursions, and its definatly the cheapest one in stalis. They offer discounted rates to people staying at the Ariadne, and we went on a boat trip, which was fantastic, and the Aqua Plus water park...Not so amazing!!

Staff at hotel all friendly, hotel was nice, location of the property was Fantastic, the only things to fault are the extra charges such as air-son, t.v and you have to pay 1.80 euro per day each for one sun lounger!!

As a younger couple, we found the hotel was more suitable to older couples, but i was very happy with a nice, relaxing get away in a brilliant area of crete. Crete itself is rather expensive, so not for those wanting a budget holiday!!!

Me and my wife have just come from this hotel, when we first arrived we was asked at reception if we wanted to upgade our room for an extra 70 euros we declined but the was insisted we were shown before we made our decision. When we was show our standard room it was very basic and it was located on the roof of the restaurant with no view, must of been the worsed room in the hotel, then we was shown the other room that we had the option to upgrade to and guess what it was really nice, overlooking the pool/beach and had a/c fridge and sky tv. So we upgraded. Felt a little bit conned as it was quite when we went there so they must show you the worst room making you feel that you have to spend the extra cash and upgrade.

Rooms are very clean, but the beds are teribble, its like sleeping on the floor, woke up in the morning feeling like i had been kicked in the ribs!! Sky tv is a bit of a con as you pay extra for it and the only channels in english are Sky news, and mtv (not that we go on hol to watch tv)!! Also no drink making facilitys! Shower cubicle was small so we removed the curtain and just soaked the floor!

The pool area is nice and clean but you have to pay to use the loungers at 3.60 euros a day for x 2 and extra if you want a umbrella.

Food is catered for the germans/french as breakfast i found a real struggle, hard boiled eggs, or a peperami cocktail sausage is the only warm food available. Plenty of fruit, cakes, yes cake for breakfast!! Evening meal was better nice selection but food didnt seem warm enough and half the time you didnt know what you was eating as nothing was labeled, so you could and i was eating octopuss without really knowing!! So be carefull.

Good location on the edge of stalis and edge of malia.

No entertaiment at the hotel so going out for a drink around the towns at night is areal struggle to get passed the 'English' touts trying to drag you in to there bar for a drink and they donk like being told no for a answer!!

I prob would go back to this hotel but i would stay self catering next time as the food in the local resturants looked and smelt amazing!!

Good weather (90's), good location, clean & tidy, very close to the beach

As all the other reviews already said, you had to pay to upgrade which I did and got the most perfect little room, ground floor beside pool with sea view. the staff were terrible maybe because it was coming to the end of the season, they were rude and not very helpful. The food was just OK, breakfast really bad and dinner not as bad. there was no athmosphere in the dinning room, lights on even their bar was empty although it was very clean and nice. I think in general it has to do with the owner who is quite serious and it trickles down to the staff. On nights when every other bar was busy on the strip this bar was empty!! Pool and surrounding area was very clean so were rooms and lobby. The staff were nice to my little girl though. I was alone with my little girl and found the hotel and the surrounding area very safe. Most other people in the area were very friendly and when I booked a boat trip with an agent across the road my daughter went free. I would go back to Stalis but think I would find a friendlier hotel....... There is so much to see in Crete though and lots of trips can be booked through travel agents on main streets, the food in Stalis is a bit samey and not Greek enough for me.

This really is a lovely hotel! We stayed, a family of five, for 2 weeks in July 2008. The pool which is surrounded by the hotel’s lovely gardens is decent sized and generally not too busy. The beach and the sea are only a few steps away from the pool, which has a decent bar with a reasonable choice of food. The hotel is set back from and faces away from the road so it’s reasonably quiet.

The rooms in the hotel are clean, bright and good-sized and on many sides have fabulous views across the sea and along the shore. We only had breakfast at the hotel, which was substantial enough although the choice did get a little monotonous.

The bar and room staff are all friendly and helpful. The reception staff were a little frosty but this did not spoil the atmosphere of a pleasant, well-run hotel in a fabulous location.

Downsides? The extras are a bit of a thorny issue! Having to pay for loungers and umbrellas by the pool seemed a little steep to us as the cost of this can rack up quite considerably over the holiday. Visitors from outside the hotel can use the pool as well but pay the same rate as guests.

We booked a superior room in advance with fridge, air-con and TV. We were a little unsure what the difference between a superior room and any other room was and we did speak to other guests who had begrudgingly made similar upgrades. Feeling a little taken advantage of was the only sour note to our stay. The TV only has one English speaking channel and safe was a chargeable extra.

Whether other visitors would like the actual town of Stalis is probably a fairly personal thing. The shops are a fairly repetitive mixture of supermarkets, gift shops (sponges, olive oil, soap etc) and the odd jeweller. We found a couple of very helpful car hire and tour operators – there’s also a bank with an ATM.

There’s quite a sprinkling of bars – from big screen types to quieter ones by the sea all serving a good range of drinks and snacks, including English breakfasts.

We thought the restaurants were over-priced, and not just because of the euro exchange rate. Drinks in particular seemed to be expensive. There are a large number of restaurants but we thought we could probably eat cheaper and better in London! The food tended to be pretty similar from one restaurant to the next, and all fairly indifferent given the range of fresh produce that’s available. However, most of the restaurants were right on the sea-front with great views and a cool breeze and the staff were invariably pleasant and obliging so eating out was still something special.

Overall it was a thoroughly relaxing and enjoyable stay which we'd be happy to recommend.

Me and my boyfriend really enjoyed our time in Crete but we did have a few problems with the hotel. Firstly when we arrived at the hotel we experienced a unhelpful receptionist. She made us feel like we were inconvieniencing her by booking in. She asked us if we would like to upgrade to a superior room for an extra 105 euros which we declined. She then showed us to our room which we were extremely dissappointed with, when we booked the hotel it was for a double room but the room she gave us was a twin, she told us to push the beds together but when we did this there was a big gap in the middle. There was no air conditioning or fridge and the location was far away from beach and pool overlooking the road. We weren't happy with the room so went back to reception to have a word about the bed situation and the receptionist informed us that nearly all the rooms don't have double beds. In the end we just paid the extra for an upgrade but then twe were made to feel like that was a problem too with the lady saying that because we have put our suitcases in the room it had been used and that it would now have to be cleaned. Anyway in he end we did get the upgrade at an extra cost and we were happy with the room we were given in the end which had a double bed, air conditioning and fridge, also it had a view of the pool and beach. During our time in the hotel we heard the receptionist trying the upgrade thing with everyone.
We wanted to go on a trip to the water park one day and so we thought we would ask the receptionist to order a taxi for us but when we went into reception we were completely ignored.
The other thing we had a problem with was the food, We only booked for B&B and thank god we did cause I dread to think what the dinner was like. The beakfast was the same everyday. I really wanted some fresh fruit or toast and jam but there was no fresh fruit and only toast with nothing to put on it.
You also have to pay for the sun longers around the pool and also for an umbrella and ashtray.
We can't fault the location though, it was perfect. The hotel is right on the beach so if you don't like the sand getting everywhere you can sunbathe on the grass and it feels like you are on the beach and the views are lovely.
