“Flinstone Caves!!!”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 20, 2009

We were so excited on the way there, until we saw where we were staying and our jaws dropped!!! It was the biggest Dive in the world. Only an act of God could have saved us, a tornado or typhoon taking this hotel apart before we got into it. after standing in line to get told where our hotel room was we got taken there by one of the monkeys that work there. he showed us only what I can call the Flinstone Cave... (Anyone else that has been given these "Rooms" will know what I mean) They were right next to the derilict basket ball court near the empty rusty oil barrels and the sun bed shed.
After one night we went and met our rep and were so angry we wanted to just get a refund!! we persuaded him to get us a move to the little Beach house the hotel owns which was better and then we actually enjoyed our selves. but the sheets were never changed nor were the towels or anything...
we left them a "Present" on our departure...
Bad hotel, Bad staff Brill location... just choose a better hotel!!!
Oh Breakfast is Proper Bad!!! and the Pool is the worst pool in the Land!!!

My boyfriend went here with friends and said it was clean, right on the beach.
Rooms and breakfast were decent enough for a group of lads or girls holiday.
Fairly lively.
Malia itself was great and lively and a real hotspot for 18-30s

*******booked at thomas cook in mansfield nottinghamshire who were very helpful*******

also all the 18-30s hotels are great for young

I booked this hotel as a 2 star, when we got there it had a sign outside saying it was a 1 star. I had read so many bad reviews after booking this I was really dreading it! Well... it really was that bad! There is absolutely NO air con in the hotel except their reception! The rooms were hotter inside than outside! Shower/bathroom was really old and looked like it needed ripping out and a whole new one out in. You can only get hot water up to 8pm otherwise the water is FREEZING! So get your shower in early! Location of this hotel is brilliant, you litterally step out of the hotel onto the beach and the walk up the strip takes about 5 mins to get to the main bars. My overall experience in Malia was awesome! The staff at this hotel aren't the most helpful and said they would do things to improve our stay and nothing was done! However the bar staff were amazing and very friendly! I wouldn't say not to go, but bare in mind that this is the oldest hotel in Malia and I expected the worst after reading the reviews and got worse! However still had an amazing holiday - its what you make it! But definitely would NOT stay again. x

  • Liked — Being away from it!
  • Disliked — The rooms were boiling and unclean and the water was FREEZING! not a happy medium!

Me and my friend stay at this hotel at the beginning of june and i had read loads of reviews that were really bad so i was preparing myself for the worst!! However it isnt that bad at all its a basic property but thats all you need when your out there because there is so much to do you dont want to spend all your time in the hotel!

The location is amazing it it only a 5 min walk to the 1st bar, and the hotel is right on the beach. the poolside snack bar is cheap and not bad food at all for a snack, but if you go bed and breakfast isnt worth it you get 2 toast n butter n a slice of cake :s instead go up to the red lion pub, about a 5 min walk, and get a breakfast there it is cheap and big and yummy!

This hotel is full of youngsters and so is a lively hotel but its wicked because that means you can have your music on and nobody moans and so long as you come in quiet then the hotel manager does not mind either.

Dont pay the extra for a balcony because it is TINY!

Our rep was always about so you can always ask them stuff and also if you have any probs, however dont expect any miracles.

When you go on the beach on the 1st day ,make sure you walk all the way down the beach 1st and get the best offer for the sun bed otherwise you can end up paying out too much.

The clubs and bars are amazing and there are too many to possible go in them all but make sure you go to Zigzag its wicked and the drinks are cheap in there and they play all diff types of music.

me and my husband have just got back from crete, the hotel is ok, very basic but with the beaitiful cretan weather all you need is a base!. we booked for b+b, but when we checked in we were shown to the self catering block, which started our holiday off well.i had read the reports on trip advisor before we went so i was a bit worried about what sort of a place we had booked into, they have replaced the pool, and cleaned the hotel up with new furniture, even though some of the rooms are still in a bad state of repair according to other guests we met,one couple in room 1 had no hot water for the whole week of their stay, so be warned try to stay in the self catering block it is much quieter and has lovely sea views, did not see the reps much for the whole two weeks we were there, no one came with us to the airport, so we were left to fend for ourselfs when we got to the airport.
the bar staff were lovely especially at the little bar on the other side of the complex we sat and watched the sun set with a few cocktails while he played cheesy elton john songs as he thought it was romantic!!!!
food at the beach bar is cheap and good, ask for your discount card that entitles you to 10% off the price off food and the sunbeds, we were not told about this until the last day!!!!
cant commment on the breakfasts as we did not go to get the food, other guests said it was ok!! just basic tea, coffee, bread, jam, cake and orange juice, greeks dont eat breakfast like us so just go and buy one from the beach bar, i had a breakfast on the last morning and it was very good. on the whole we had nothing to complain about we had a lovely two weeks, but people told us the hotel is a nightmare in the hight of the summer, so try to go at the start of the season in may and at the end in october, we are going back to crete in october and if i get a good deal at this hotel then i would book it again, remember it is only 1 star accomodation!!!

Me and 4 other girls stayed here last year, our first impressions were not the best, it looked run down and not very attractive, but after being shown to our room, this is when our holiday started, we all had the best holiday ever! its only as good as u make it! the hotel sits on the beach and the 2 seconds from the main clubbing strip what more do u want? the staff were all so friendly. helpful and a right laugh. one thing i will say and thats make sure u go to ur welcome meeting, like everywhere u go abroad there are some things that u need to be careful of but we never had one problem, we were half board and the food was lovely. Girls just dont go down on the beach on ur own after dark! its not safe.and also if ur hoping for ait conditioning then double check where abouts in the hotel ur'll be, we didnt have air con but we survived and had such a laugh! it can get a bit noisy at night in the hotel but once you've been out all night on the drink this shouldnt affect you to much. overall i highly reccommend this hotel, if u are lookign for 1st class accommodation then dont go here but all we done was sleep and shower and spent rest iof time in the beautiful sunshine. also this hotel isnt for the older generation young groups of girls and lads were all we ever saw here. id definatly go back!

My girlfriend and I booked up around January 07, when the hotel was 3 star. By the time summer came it had dropped to a 1 star. You can imagine my thoughts! So I went on to the internet and seen all these horrible reviews, but when we got there I was totally shocked at how nice the place was.

The pictures that I had seen of the hotel weren't great but not bad either. I don't think the pictures done the hotel justice. There's a really nice big pool area, beautiful views of the sea and the room we got was fantastic.

The pool bar was 24hrs which in my mind isn't a bad thing! The prices at the bar were on par with the rest of the resort. The food was really, really nice. (better than some than some of the restaurants that I have eaten at here in the UK) The staff couldn't have been nicer. They all made the effort to try n get to know you.

I would definitely recommend this hotel. In fact, it was that good, my girlfriend and I will be heading back at some point.

  • Liked — The fact that it was right next to the beach and the friendly atmosphear.
  • Disliked — All crazy folk on quads and motorbikes.
