“Beautiful & Relaxing!!!”
Reviewed July 2, 2012

Just returned from a week’s vacation in the lovely resort of Malia located in Heraklio Crete. I urge you not to listen to the negative reviews. I am a notoriously picky traveler as I travel a lot but the Solimar Ruby really exceeded my expectations. This 4 star hotel is simply lovely, operates on an all inclusive basis and is perfect for couples, families and young travelers who are looking to enjoy peaceful and relaxing stay.

The hotel pool is idyllic, spotlessly clean and offers all inclusive drinks and snacks.
The staff, from beginning to end, was excellent; very warm, welcoming and helpful. I was pleasantly surprised with the professionalism of the staff; nothing is too much trouble for them!

The rooms were clean, spacious and beautifully decorated. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was one of the cleanest we've ever come across! Everything was spotless.

The food served to us at the buffet was excellent; there wasn't a meal we didn’t enjoy. It consisted of a great selection of buffet style items.

I stayed in many other 5 star hotels and not to mention more expensive hotels in Malia but the quality of service and quantity of the food were not as impressive as the Solimar Ruby.

Overall it’s a great inexpensive hotel, very well run with excellent staff and one of the best resorts in Malia. Try this hotel; you will not be disappointed. We will definitely return!!

Just recently returned from this hotel and was rather dissapointed at how it was advertised. It is stated to be 100m from the night life... which it is if you can climb over the back fence and walk over the field other wise its a 10min walk! The hotel staff were lovely, but that is about as nice as it gets. For an all-inclusive hotel we suffered many fall backs, for breakfast it was always the same stuff and the bread for toast was sometimes stale. For lunch you could either have a range of fruit or spagehetti (plain) or pasta (tasteless) along with chips and 2 other dishes. For dinner you were given the exact same option which was quite off-putting. However the chips were decent and they do chicken nuggets so you can survive off them if you have to. The bar was OK, at first the manager was rather grumpy but soon livened up after a while - BUT - on the 2nd day of my holiday they ran out of vodka. How does an all-inclusive hotel run out of alcohol? When i was leaving 4 days later the vodka still hadn't been replaced so that was a massive let down.

The pool is nice and gets a lot of heat though and there is a "baby" pool which is covered so its nice to sit in and get out of the afternoon sun.

Overall i thought the hotel was rather dissapointing and wouldn't reccommend it.

Room Tip: Pool view rooms otherwise its muddy fields from the balcony

We were very welcomed when we first arrived, it was late in the night and we didn't expect to be offered any food but we did! That made us happy as we were starving. We loved it the moment we got there, the hotel has big rooms great aircon, and our room had a great view of the pool! The staff are lovely and always talking to you and smiling, and they really looked after us! The food was great! and the cocktails were really good :) thanks to christos! I'm coming back next may with a group of people ! loved it loved loved!! I really recommend this hotel to anyone who is looking for a really welcomed stay!!

Room Tip: have a pool balcony view, they are the best ! big and you can see the mountains over the far side :)

We decided to come here cause we read good opinion and we didn't make mistake with choosing that place. This is small hotel in quite area but near to the main centre. Garden and pool area is amazing, keeping clean by stuff for whole that time. Rooms are big, comfortable and clean. Air condition is working very good.

Service and manager are well organised, very helpful. They are trying to help with everything. If there is a problem they are trying to find solution immediately. Service is smiling whole time, you feel like home here.

I don't agree with Sasha at all, maybe we were in two different hotels :) FIRST TIME IN MY LIFE!!! I'm so satisfied of service, standart and hotel!!! but I was in many different places in the world.

Food was very good, delicious, there was a big choice of dishes. But when someone is drinking non stop, don't have taste :) (Sasha maybe you dindn't have a taste.... :) In that time when we were spendind our holiday all guests said that food was great.

This hotel deserve for good opinions!!!! I hope we will come back here, to this hotel.

I went to malia with a group of friends in may 2012 when we arrived to the hotel we thought it was amazing because it is a beautiful hotel. Pool area is nice and rooms are lovely and well decorated BUT the air conditioning leaks and leaves your floor soaking our toilet in our room was broken the food was disgusting and not a lot of choice for 'all inclusive' the staff are not the best, the barmaid is lovely and so is the man who works at the reception but the manager and the other guy who runs it are horrible, when at the bar ordering a drink of juice she would stand with her arms crossed giving dirty looks, I found this awkward and smiled at her but she just kept giving dirty looks, my friend left her camera in the restaurant area which was picked up and handed in by the waitress who over heard my friend asking us if we had seen her camera then the waitress said she had handed it in, before my friend had spoke to the waitress she had asked the manager 'miss Rangelika' if she or any of the staff had seen her camera to which she replied ' no! Someone must have taken it' then after speaking to the waitress she took my friend into the managers office and said here is your camera. They cook pizza and chips for the snack bar at 11 in the morning then again at 1 and 5 this is the same everyday. This is a beautiful hotel and good enough for the price but if ur looking for somewhere which is going to make u feel welcome with good food and no theifs then don't stay here

Room Tip: All of the rooms are lovely but some have leaky air con
