We'd been to Knossos before, so wanted to experience another significant site. We included it in a tour we put together ourselves (hiring a car with driver/guide). We had plenty of time there and enjoyed it. However, the reason I couldn't post an Excellent was that It was just as well we'd read up beforehand on some of the history, and that our guide added to that knowledge prior to our visit. There were no books/leaflets available in English and the bookshop was closed & empty. The information boards and plaques around the site were poor. They seem to rely on coach parties attending with their own guides. Also, one part of the site wasn't open for viewing, and the raised viewing platform was closed off, so it wasn't possible to get as good a view as we'd have liked. However, I'm glad we visited, and would recommend the site to anyone. If you just view this place as another set of ruins, it's sort of missing the point of its place in the history of the island.
