I stayed at the Pyrgos in June of 2013 with a group of 16 friends and I really can't think of a bad thing to say about this hotel. It suited all of us perfectly because even though we were there for a party holiday, we wanted to be able to have fun during the day and have peace to just chill out if we wanted to.
We arrived off the bus at about 2 in the morning and got served a drink from the pool bar straight away while we were all individually shown to our rooms. The bar was open from early in the morning til pretty late at night and the drinks were strong and cheep and the food was pretty decent.
All the staff were lovely and a good laugh and there is a 24 hour security guard which makes you feel a lot safer about leaving your passport and stuff in your room. There was good wifi around the pool as well.
The rooms are pretty basic but really comfortable especially when we were really only sleeping in them. They were spotless with air-con, fresh towels every-day and loads of space for a few of you to just sit around and have a drink. We visited a few other hotels that our friends were staying at and our rooms were definitely the cleanest and best out of everywhere else we seen.
The hotel is about a 10/15 minute walk from the strip, but it's basically a straight road and it's only a couple of euro's in a taxi if you don't fancy the walk! It's literally on the beach, so apart from the views being gorgeous we also were able to jump between the pool and the beach every day.
The hotel is definitely for people who want to be able to have a chilled out time. It's not a party hotel, but we felt that this was perfect considering the amount of partying you do on the strip - it is nice to come back to a place away from the hustle and bustle. A lot of our friends from other hotels started coming down to our pool during the day because the atmosphere was a lot better than in the 18 - 30 hotels that were just mental 24/7.
The hotel also does a BBQ once a week which was so fun - amazing greek food, music, dancing and an amazing laugh.
I'd recommend this hotel to basically everyone. For me, this hotel really made my holiday and I'll definitely be coming back if I visit Malia again

Room Tip: Ask for an upper-floor room facing the pool. Gorgeous views!

Despite the rooms being a bit disappointing this hotels location, views and staff will make up for everyything. I stayed in this hotel on the last week of July 13 with my girlfriend, we are both in our early 20s so we wanted somewhere quiet enough to sleep yet close enough to the strip. When we arrived we were a bit disappointed with the rooms as the bathrooms were tiny, there was no TV, no phone and the air con was 40 euro a week and the safe was 20. The hotel is actually split into 2 hotels and the side advertised by Thomas cook doesn't have a reception, if you want anything you have to go to the pool bar but the hotel itself is right on the beach and a 10 minute stroll from the strip. The electric is turned off around 7am for an hour so your air con will knock off and the cleaner bangs your around 10am and asks you to get out so she can clean the room (good if you want a clean room, bad if you're hungover) but she will come back later on if u ask and she was always pleasant. The staff are great fun and always put on any song at the pool bar that you asked them to. The fact it was a small hotel was great as we got to know all the other guests very quickly and the whole hotel ended up going out together every night. The sea is literally 30 yards from the pool bar and every room has a balcony with a great view of the beach and sea.

when we arrived we were allocated a ground floor room, this wasn't really suitable for me as I need to sleep with windows open and was a bit apprehensive about sleeping on ground floor level. The manager explained that the hotel was full but she would have us located to a different room as soon as possible. True to her word I only had to sleep 2 nights in the ground floor room. They made sure the security guard kept passing during the 2 night which was somewhat reassuring. The pics posted are from the second floor room that we were moved to. The rooms are very clean and have small kitchen area as it is a self catering establishment. The views are from the second floor room(which is the top of the hotel but the stair were not unduly difficult). We ate breakfast every morning in the bar/dining area with the sea next to the bar which was so relaxing - the various omlettes were all great and the food prices are very reasonable. The beach at the front of the hotel is very rocky and not suitable for access to the sea but just a few yards away to the right or left there are beautiful beaches.
It would be so much better if the bar staff switched OFF the music just for a little while. The location of the hotel was great for us as we always rent quad bikes when we go abroad as I have walking difficulties but it's quite a dark road to walk down once you leave the main road. the dark road take about 2-3 minutes walk and is unpopulated. The photo I posted of the derelict building is on the road down to the hotel but doesn't detract from the beautiful Pyrgos.
I wouldn't recommend this hotel if you are young people looking to hit the Malia clubs because of the distance from the main strip with the bars and clubs, if you are drunk it would take quite a bit of time to get back to the hotel. In September it's perfect for families and couples or anyone just wanting to chillout. The swimming pool is great and very clean there's even a jacuzzi attached. There is a separate paddling pool for very small children. Older children might find the main pool a bit deep as the shallow end is roughly 1.5 metres deep. There are plenty of sun lounger around the pool and there is a beautiful garden area next to the beach with more sun loungers. We had no issue with ants but we were plagued with mosquito bites by the morning -so recommend you take a very good plugin with you. This a a fab hotel and we will defo be returning

I was planning to travel with 11-months baby, and the hotel stuff has sent me a nice welcoming message, asking if we needed help to reach hotel, explaining how to reach hotel by taxi, shuttle bus, or car rental, and asking is we needed any other help.... This was really nice and unexpected... We couldn't travel this time, because baby got sick, and they were attentive enough to waive cancellation fees for us. We are still planning to go there, and we'll book this hotel. Thanks so much for the service!

Room Tip: Best location in Malia and Great Hotel Service!
