Stayed in the 4 bed apartment for a week with friends. Location is great 5mins from a nice beach and 10mins walk from the main bars. Restaurants are on the door although the centre offers better value.

Is not a hotel filled with young people, there are a few but there is a nice mix.

Pros - Price, cleanness, friendly owner, quiet, location, WiFI (although worked best by pool and reception rather than in room), Sea view

Cons - Pool was closed for 1 day when we were there for cleaning, for our group could have been a bit more of an atmosphere although I suspect others will prefer the quiet.

Tips for visitors to the area - Go carting was fun, there are a lot of reps if you go down the strip but I would highly suggest getting to the end to the loft and brit bar and working back towards the hotel.

Only stayed here for 3 nights then rented a villa in the countryside but we were back all the time at the bar for excellent cheap food and drinks, not to mention the free wifi! The owner Kostas and his wife Maria were so welcoming and friendly and was always nice to chat to them. The pool is perfect, location also as it's away from the hype of Malia but not too far away. The rooms were as expected and free air-con was available. Would definitely recommend, and I know I'll be back here for sure!

Very very friendly and nice owners!! We have rather basic room (not studio) but very good for the money paid. Pool area is clean and looks really very nice with sitting area and small bar. Location is very good! Pleasant sand beach is only 3-5 min from the hotel. Center of Malia in 10 min by walk - it is close to reach if you want and a little bit far from the night noise if you do not want. Free wifi!
I do not like only 2 things. The absence of curtain in shower, you will have pool on the floor, to dry it you need to use towel (towels are changed once per 3 days). The second thing - you can easily hear every sound in all neighbour rooms.

I stayed here in late july 2013 and initially booked in one night and ended up staying for three! The hotel is run by husband and wife Kostos and Maria whose kindness towards us was really lovely. The hotel is very well situated a 3 minute walk from the beach.. A supermarket is basically next door and the main area of town is a short 5 minute walk! Kostos and Maria really made us feel welcome and went above and beyond to make sure we enjoyed our stay!

Me and my best friend booked our holiday in Malia, for July 2007. Given it was a last minute deal and we went with 18-30s, neither of us were expecting 5* luxury, but the Amvrosia is something else!!

In the travel agents we were missold the hotel, being told that the Amvrosia Hotel and the Amvrosia Apartments were 2 seperate buildings, making up a big complex. The apartments were supposed to be bigger, hence they costed more money. FALSE - it's one grotty building, the "apartments" are on the top floor and there is absolutely NO size difference!! We were also told that the Apartments were within walking distance of the strip. In reality, it was a 20 minute walk down a dirt track!!!

The rooms were basic and on arrival seemed ok. But after a couple of days, we noticed that we hadn't been given any clean sheets or towels and eventually were told that they would be provided - at a cost of 10 euros a day!! The pool area was covered with palm trees, meaning although the weather was gorgeous, the whole area was shaded! No sun could get through the trees! The food and drink in the hotel was basic yet very expensive and the manager of the hotel was really rude and insisted on keeping our passports ALL week in a PLASTIC BAG UNDER THE BAR!!!

To top it off, you have to pay a deposit for each room of 30 euros per person which the management are unbelievably relunctant to give back to you. So much so, that on the last day, when I went down to the reception/bar area to check out, the manager called the maid, to check our room/check nothing was broken etc. Not realising that my friend was in the bathroom, the maid sneakily tried to put a broken plastic chair and table on our balcony!!! (Bearing in mind the hotel keep your passport until you check out and you can't check out unless the room is ok! Therefore if anything is broken, they can charge you WHATEVER they like to replace it - as they have your passport!! I have known a friend pay 60 EUROS for a WHITE TOWEL in another Malia hotel!!)

The reps however, didn't really seem to care - as we had friends in another hotel, we had gone on our excursions with Thompson, rather than 18-30s. Therefore, we found the reps in our hotel to be very unhelpful - if you're not paying them commission, then they really don't want to know.

Our friends were staying down the road in the Stellios Gardens and luckily, the pool there is open to all, otherwise this truly would have been the holiday from hell. In comparison, our friends hotel was absolutely gorgeous!!! Malia was an amazing holiday but we wish we would have stayed there instead!! Would definately recommend the Stellios Gardens to anyone - the rooms were fantastic, staff couldn't help you enough, located a stones throw away from the hotel, great food, 24 hour bar, atmosphere round the pool was spot on....perfect!! Looking back, we should have gone to Stellios!!
