Just got back from two weeks in Malia, I would definitely recommend it to young people looking for a good time, best two weeks of my life no doubt!
The location of these apartments are absolutely perfect. Bang on in the middle of the strip, the spar and places to eat are just up to the right, and all the best clubs and bars are down to the left, with a few other clubs off ahead.
The apartments are attached to Mango bar, which is the perfect place to start the night with a headf***er for four euros! Also after everywhere shuts people from the apartments tend to come back there after.
The pool is the perfect place to sit and nurse your hangover, the pool bar serves good enough food and they play music all day.
When I arrived I was quite sceptical as I'd read that the staff will try and scam you, but our experience was very positive, with only a few run ins with the staff during our time there. One was quite near the beginning where we were making quite a lot of noise and standing/ lying on the grass, which the staff really do not like, as they are very proud of the gardens and every day I'd see a man out with a hose watering the garden. So the hotel owner started yelling at us in Greek. When we tried to run away we realised we had lost our apartment key. However, the security man, Dennis was very helpful. He let us into our apartment and brought a new one for us quickly. He told us to pay a 30 euro fine, however, that was the last we heard of it and we were never actually made to pay the fine.
Our only other run in was with the cleaners who started screaming at one of my friends in greek because our room was untidy. However, the manager was very nice to her and simply said that it was OK this time, but we would get charged if our room was that untidy again, which was fair enough we had food all over the floor and everything. The cleaners also claimed to the manager that we had broken the electricity key slot, but again nothing came of this and we managed to leave without any fines.
I'd heard they are very funny about towels, bed linen etc but I got make up all over some of the towels, plus the strip makes your feet very dirty which brings in a lot of dirt on the bed linen. However we never got charged for any of this. I folded up my towels to hide the marks and it seems to have worked!
I'd heard the manager was very scary, but every time I met her she seemed lovely. The hotel owner, Stella, walks about slowly with an air of authority and she is quite intimidating. However by the end of the holiday I'd even seen her cracking a few smiles.
Be careful about taking people up to your apartment though, its a 40 euro fine per person you bring back! Its very easy to get into the other guests apartments, though.
All in all these apartments are GREAT, and if I come back to Malia I would not hesitate to stay here again!!!!
