My wife and I stayed at The Royal heights in 2013, and we really had a great time. We enjoyed ourselves so much last year that when we wanted another break this year we had no hesitation to book the Royal Heights again.
We very rarely visit the same Hotels again ( Not sure Why ), but we did and book again and it did not disappoint.
They really do look after you well here, with great food. We were given ( as a return visitor ) a complimentary Massage at the Spa, which was great.
We were a bit worried as there was a Wedding at the Hotel on the Saturday Night. The Hall at the venue holds up to 1500 people, but there was no need to worry at all.
Peace full, Quite, good food. This really is a great place to stay. Looking forward to staying again Next year.

Room Tip: The main hotel suites are completely fine. Not sure I would spend the extra money on a private Pool...

Both me and my wife have just returned from a 12 nights half board stay at the resort . Dont really know where to start. From the moment arriving the staff were so eager to help and cant do enough. Even the manager (who worked relentlessly hard throughout our whole stay) carried our bags to the room. We stayed in a one bed villa which couldn't be faulted on any level and a nice little touch of complimentary wine, water and fruit didn't go amiss. The food in both the restaurant and pool bar is of fantastic quality and plentiful and the veiws are to die for. However all being said it is all of the staff which make this hotel so attractive. They cannot do any more to help you and are so friendly. We are already going back later in the year, it was that good!!!
N.B top tip over endulge in the cocktails at the pool bar. They are the best, made by a hard working talented genius.

My boyfriend and i stayed here 10th-17th june 2014 in a villa with private pool. We booked with jet2 holidays and thought the price was very resonable for what we got.
The hotel is beautiful and has some amazing views out to the sea! Everywhere was spotlessly clean. Breakfast was great, ate something different every morning. The staff at reception, pool bar, restaurant & cleaning staff were all brilliant - very polite helpful and friendly!
Now the villas.... WOW! so glad we booked here! best place we have ever stopped, lovely clean modern spacious villa, amazing large pool with a lovely garden with orange, lemon & lime trees! very peaceful and private, perfect if you just want to relax all holiday.
The location is a slight compromise due to the hill as mentioned in previous reviews (we walked up but only made that mistake once! €7 in a taxi is worth it!!) but id still stop here over and over again despite that! Excellent hotel!!!!

We stayed here in summer 2013. Travelling as a family, myself, my wife, 2yr old daughter and my mother... We typically travel 4 or 5 star and have been to Crete lots of times. We have high expectations, especially when booking something like a presidential suite.

Suffice to say we weren't disappointed. The villas are very large, we'll appointed and to be fair, you could live there comfortably. They're a little sparse feeling because they're decorated minimalist, but high quality fittings and great beds. Air con in the main area and in each bedroom, all individually controlled. The private pool was nice, and the outdoor area and private garden were great too.

We were only bed and breakfast - too many places to eat out around resorts, but the breakfasts were fine and the views incredible...

You will need a car of staying here, however getting a taxi into Malia or Stalis won't cost a lot. But if you're looking for a bit of luxury, or discovering the best restaurants, you will want to travel a little further, hence needing a car.

Really quiet hotel, away from the noise of the resorts and being up on the hill side means amazing views of the resorts, from anywhere in the complex.

The main hotel pool looked great, but we didn't use it since we had our own private pool.

Next time I go back, I'm staying at this hotel again, no question! It's really nice, chilled and relaxed.

The only thing to mention is it's also popular for weddings and other big celebrations. But so are other hotels like the Ikaros or Alexander Beach. If you're in a Presidential Villa that's around the front of the hotel you won't hear them. But if you're closer to the main building, there's a chance you could. These celebrations can go on all night with Bazuke music. If you're there during one, they usually happen on a weekend. You could view it negatively, or you could see it as a chance to see some of the local culture. But as I said, it's likely you won't hear anything anyway as most of the rooms face away from the main hotel and it's tiered in such a way as to minimalise impact.

The massages were great too, as was the quality of the gym.

If you're happy with having your own car and exploring, and don't want to be based out of the (slightly tacky) resorts. This definitely is the place for you!

Room Tip: Any Presidential Suite really.

The resort itself was stunning, clean and mordern. On arrival we were greeted by a friendly, knowledgeable and helpful woman at reception with some nice chilled orange juice and shown around the resort and our villa. The villa was gorgeous with a sea view, a private pool and a jacuzzi tub. Unfortunately had twin beds which me and my boyfriend weren't too pleased about. None of the doors seemed to shut properly in the villa including the upstairs bathroom. The breakfast was quite foul if I'm honest but then we did wake up late so some of it may have been nice if it was fresh. Dinner at the restaurant was quite bland unfortunately so we ventured down to malia and found the Kaza Pub which I can't recommend enough it serves the tastiest food, sweetest cocktails and the best level of service. Would have appreciated the heads up about the solar powered hot water as we had a day and a half without any hot water (weather wasn't at its best) until we rang reception and was informed that there was a switch to heat it if the solar power wasn't doing it's job. Facilities were good, used the sauna and the steam room and the gym looked good too. I had told the resort that it was my boyfriend's birthday before we arrived and as a lovely suprise the receptionist brought a cake out to us for him and it was very tasty. All in all it was a good stay and if it weren't for the area (prefer city stays I think, much prettier scenery) then we would return but think it may not quite be up to 5* standards. Nevertheless, thank you royal heights. :)

From the moment we arrived the staff bent over backward to give this hotel an exclusive and extravagant feel. All very friendly particularly the two waiters in the evening restaurant and kostas at the pool bar.. had some amazing days filled with cocktails and laughs.

Our room was beautiful and when we arrived late on the first evening room service was given in place of half board dinner. Plates of Meats, cheeses, salad and olives, caviar and fresh bread and fruit arrived. We were very impressed.
Breakfast had plenty to offer - fruits, cereals, sausages, bacon and eggs cooked on request.
Half board option - evening meals were amazing! So so good we stayed 10 nights and ate out once! Lovely service, very friendly waiters.

We visited toward the end of the season so only experienced reps coming in to use the pool once and didnt bother us. A wedding took place too. The chapel was beautifully decorated and we heard the service from our room. Very very busy but staff so organised and professional that it had little impact on our day and we were invited to join their evening reception.

We walked most days to Malia, 10 minutes at the most. Not the most attractive scenery on route and quite a hill but worth it to get to the gorgeous old town and save 7 euros in the taxi! Saw a few fitness fanatics running back up but no way we could walk it - taxi rank right at the bottom of the hill!

There are nicer places to visit than malia itself, neighbouring towns much less ruined by british pubs and lack of culture but wherever I visit in crete I will most definitely return to royal heights to base our stay from. Thank you to all working hard at RHH.
