Bella Elena Apartments
Ranked #16 of 82 Specialty Lodging in Malia
Reviewed August 14, 2013

We have recently returned from a 7 day stay at Bella Elena and we thought that it was fabulous. We didn't go to Malia for the 'Strip' and really enjoyed the laid back nature of the Old Town.
For the price we paid we were amazed at the large size of the living-room, bedroom and the kitchen facilities- very large fridge, freezer, hob and oven. The bedroom was a great size too for a double room and there was more wardrobe space than 2 people ever could've needed, the apartment on the whole could've comfortably fit a group of 4.The bathroom was nice and spacious too and very clean.
The staff were lovely, they were extremely friendly from the moment we arrived and made an effort to talk with you and ask how your day had been.
Bar prices were reasonable and there was a range of English food on offer. The bar is open 24 hours a day which was really handy. The pool area was large for the size of the hotel, there were beds around the pool as well as behind and on a grassy garden area.
There was a lovely laid back atmosphere in the apartments, from what we saw, people staying there were mainly in couples. There were also a few families as well as large groups of friends so there was hardly any late night noise..
The apartments are in a great location if you don't want to stay too close to the main Strip, it's about a ten minute walk to there so you don't get too much noise from the busier areas. The Old Town is a lovely area, we found that there were some really great places around to eat in the evenings.
Slight draw backs were having to pay for air-con and extra toilet roll (!), it would've been nice if our towels and sheets were changed more often than they were too. But other than that we found no drawbacks at all with the apartments.
If we were to ever go back to Malia we would definitely stay again.

I have stayed here 3 times now & will be going back again. The staff are really friendly & look after you. The hotel is basic but very clean with lovely rooms, there's a microwave/toaster & hair dryers, its all you need, as the bar does food & drink all day. Maria the manager is brilliant and does whatever she can to make your stay a great one. It's also close to everything with old town bars & tavernas just outside (the Greek food is gorgeous its a must try) & Malia night life not far away so you can have the best of both worlds. I would defiantly recommend bella ellena to all my family & friends x it's perfect for everyone young or old as it caters to all tastes & has enough distance from the night life so you can either take it or leave it x

Bella Elena is situated in the old part of Malia. So it is relatively quiet (except if people in the rooms near you decide to play music until 3 in the morning or at 9 in the morning).
The hotel is advertised as suitable for both young and young at heart, though the people who mainly stay here are groups of girls and boys, plus a few couples.
The apartments are not too big, but enough space for what you need really. There is a tv, air con and a safe which you can pay 65 euro for the week. Though we left the door slightly opened as it was not too hot during the night.
The pool bar is okay, though is essentially British food at higher prices. The Sunday BBQ is okay, though not work 10 euro. As you get a small burger, 1 sausage and a pork chop plus a small selection of salad to choose from.
Though for the £225 price we paid each for the week, we new what to expect.

The main strip is about a 10 minute walk away, so you don't have all that excess noise from the clubs. There is a lot of local taverns and i would recommend Toto Lotto.
If you want something either quiet or just want to go out drinking i think this is suitable for everyone.

Room Tip: Inwards facing balcony means you will be facing front doors and have no scenery.

The hotel is great! Low prices but excellent rooms! I ve stayed in a lot of hotels in my life, and i've never paid so little for such good rooms! I've stayed three times in Bella Elena, in three different rooms and it was great each time. The pool is big enough and the pool bar is 24h open. It's close to everything but far away enough to give you some quite times during the day.

I came in June 2012 with a group of friends for a clubbing holiday.
On arrival we were greeted at the bar and told house rules. Annoyingly they had given us 2 rooms complete opposite ends of the hotel instead of next door to eachother like we had asked! They said there was nothing they could do about this, so we decided to all cram into the one room - the nicest of the two, even though they told us we couldnt! The other room was in the older building and was horrible - the shower room was dirty and the room felt like an oven during in a day! They also took our passports away from us until the end of the holiday which was un-nerving! After asking for them back several times I gave up. The family that runs the apartments were nice if you treated the place with respect. Although if you had an issue they would pass the blame onto the manager who I saw once in a blue moon! The 24 hour pool bar was not 24 hours either! It shut for several hours in the morning. The security were stupidly strict! The guard would often argue that my friends didnt stay at the apartments on our way back in during early hours. Dont even bother trying to bring anybody else back! We didnt opt for air-con as we couldnt afford it! 70 euros for a week seemed crazy.
The location wasnt the best either. A good 10 minute walk to the strip - which is all uphill on the way back! Very irritating. And at least 20/25 minutes to the beach which we didnt realise before we booked it. In the heat its the most unpleasant thing ever!
During the day the apartments were decent. The pool itself was always clean and the pool bar does burgers and breakfasts to cure your hangover at reasonable prices. The younger guys behind the bar always had decent tunes pumping throughout the day too! The pool area was clean and had sun most of the day. During the evening we were allowed to drink on out balconies and play our music quite loud. There was a good atmosphere.
The nearest shop is about 200m down the road which sells everything you need to get by - 6 bottles of water for 1 euro. Alcholic bevs and pot noodles, crisps and chocolates etc. I'd advise you to take some in your suitcase if your on a tight budget!
On BBQ night we had a spread of local foods and a quiz by the pool - although i found a label in my food which put me off eating..
It was alright for the price we paid. If your going to Malia for a clubbing holiday I'd advise you to stay somwhere on the strip! So much better. Danaides apartments opposite Safari Club are lovely. If you want somewhere abit quieter in old town out of the strip this place is okay. But be aware that its an uphill stagger back!

What can I say, fantastic holiday! The apartments are clean and basic, the pool is lovely, as are the bar staff that run it, hello thomas!! The strip is about 10 min walk away where youl find all the bars and clubs which are all really good!If you fancy eating out all the nice resturants are on your doorstep in the old town! The beach is about 20 min walk away, one day it was too hot to walk so we got a taxi, 10 euros to the beach, which between us wasn't bad! We stayed at the pool mainly as it played good music and served good food and drink, probably annoying everyone around us as we were the 'crazy loud Mancunians' someone has mentioned previously haha, hello! But if what your after is a laid back holiday, in a nice set back area close to all the amenities bella elena is for you!
