“Authentic Malaysian food”
Reviewed July 10, 2013

Working owners mean excellent service and quality food. Spacious restaurant. Good quiet location, easy parking. Sample their lunch menu - value for money and gives you a glimpse of what you could order for dinner. Located a little far down south but I would drive there regularly for the atmosphere and real, authentic Malaysian cuisine.

“Fantastic place. Highly recommended.”
Reviewed July 6, 2013

This is one of the best chinese restaurant I've been to. We first heard about it in June and dropped by for lunch. We had Salted egg chicken and black pepper beef. That was excellent. We went there again in July and we had Salted egg chicken, golden floss prawn and corn soup. Again it was fantastic.

Service is excellent and I believe it was the owner that served us both times. They recently bought the place and I think it was previously Excelsior and renamed to Serai Dining. The decor etc does not look dated and is quite a spacious restaurant and you don't get the feeling of being crammed in just so that the restaurant can make extra $ by squeezing in another table or two.

Location wise, it's near Adventure World and right next to Red Rooster on North Lake Rd.

We will definitely go back again.

“Authentic Asian cooking from Malaysia - Serai Dining”
Reviewed April 8, 2013

We were introduced to this restaurant that opened just 2 months ago. My friends orderd ahead 4 dishes . Looking at the menu gave me An impression that they were similar to Malaysia Dining at Manning Road as there were some dishes which both restaurants were offering.... A quick check with the owner, Tina, revealed that their chef also came from Malaysia where offerings like this are common in Malaysia. Their chef is an old hand at these dishes and also have some special off the menu dishes which needed to be ordered ahead. And if you want special dishes, ask for Tina.

Our orders - Steam Whole Fish in Special Assam Sauce, Gingered Sauced duck (Lor Arp), deep fried Bittergourd in salted egg yolk sauce and Tahu Telur.

The service was slow while the restaurant was moderately busy on a Friday night, there did not seem to be many serving staff. Hence, we were glad that we had ordered ahead. The staff service was warm, eager to please and when asked for cut chili and their own prepared sambas sauce, were generous in dishing it up as per request.
Don't expect super fast service as the chef is actually cooking as per order and by per table. Hence, our dishes more or less came one after another and pretty well paced. We did had to wait 30 mins or so for the dishes to come but the result is worth the wait. They came with appetizing flavours and we all ate with relish.

The Assam Steam Fish exceeded our expectations being very fresh, love the sauce. In fact, we finished every drop of it. The four of us gave it 6 stars
The tahu telur came crispy with crispy and the standard combination of sweet Plum sauce and Thai chilli sauce Went very well together, totally satisfiying.
The duck was well braised with no ducky smell. It was flavorful and the sauce delicious. We all ordered extra rice to eat with dishes although we were only on our third dish, we just had to had more of the sauce and duck.
The bitter gourd was a surprise, it was finely cut, deep fried and then coated in a salted egg yolk sauce which on first bite, I had the taste of sharp and salt in my mouth but as one ate more, the taste burst in our mouths. The bitterness cut out the oily feeling that it was deep fried while the salted egg yolk provided the oomph .

Overall, great testing food, set in a comfortable ambience, prices value for money if they continue on this standard of serving. Will definitely go again, in fact two days time with another bunch of friends.
