“Lovely hideaway in Provence”
Reviewed September 26, 2010

We stayed at Sous L'Olivier for three nights during our honeymoon in the Luberon and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. It's a beautiful, big house about three km from the villages of Lagnes and Robion.
There is a nice pool and lawns there. Our room was big, and well appointed with a separate little kitchenette and private terrace.

The hosts Carole and Julien were very welcoming and friendly. Breakfast each morning was also very good - with home made jams, fresh bread, yoghurts, hams and cheeses.
We also took the dinner one night which was delicious and of a very high standard and Julien is clearly a very talented cook.

The only down side was while we were there, there were two big private parties - as Julien seemingly does private catering too. So when we arrived the Mas was full of about 30 or so people all having a meal, and this happened the next evening as well. While it wasnt a big problem, we did feel a little pushed-out and as though there was a big party going on to which we hadnt been invited (which there obviously was!).

Otherwise though, this is a lovely place and you definitely wont be disappointed with the Mas, the food or the service.

We had booked with Sous l'Olivier based on the Trip Advisor reviews we had seen. Our experience surpassed our expectations. It was like staying as house guests in the home of Julien and Carol. The meals were beyond belief. 7:30 PM was the aperitif time with something different provided by Julien as a nibble each evening. A superb four course meal followed, with all guests sharing the same table, and Julien not only preparing and serving, but dining with us. This is one very funny guy; he taught me to speak English with a French accent. The breakfasts were laid out at 8:30AM every morning. Breads, pastries, fruits, preserves, boiled eggs, cereals, yoghurt, you name it. We all ate in the beautiful courtyard. I joked with Julien about getting him a spot on the Food Channel, but he is REALLY good, and we have dined all over the world. The place is beautiful and not far from anything you want to see in Provence. We would return in a heartbeat.

Having visited Sous l'Olivier on many occasions over the years, there was never any doubt when it came to planning our marriage celebrations. We invited family and friends to celebrate with us and were treated to exceptional food, lovely wine and a wonderful friendly service in this most charming of Provencal B&Bs. The rooms are spacious, light and very comfortable, the garden and pool area is a lovely place to relax, and dinner is a absolute joy. Julien and Carole are fantastic hosts and we will be visiting for many years to come! The whole experience was truly memorable.

A beautifully restored farm house, near Avignon, full of charm. A peaceful location. The owners, a young couple, are dedicated to the comfort of their clients. The feeling of coming home at the end of a day of exporing is made complete by an outstanding meal. Julien, chef by profession expresses his love of cooking with a 5 course meal, complete with wine, at a most reasonable price. As a chef I can attest to the high quality of the food. Children are welcome, Carole and Julien have two young children of their own.

Carole and Julien's B&B is a magical place, the best holiday by far we have had. The house, rooms, breakfast, garden, location are all top notch. But it was the evening meals that we thought were pure heaven, to sit in the amazing dining room/hall, meeting all the other guests, wine flowing, eating the most amazing food was a provence at its very best and we loved it!

I knew from the onset, by the communication when booking this reservation, that all would be handled with the utmost of consideration and care. And so it was, a super place to stay, so incredibly close to an unending choice of quaint hillside villages and small museums and breathtaking scenery.
Julien was a superb host, who was always generous with his availability.
We stayed in one of the smallest rooms (Pitchoune) an outbuilding with stone floors and walls and a big double glass door that opened up to an private area to sit and read/relax/have a bite to eat. We loved the privacy that it offered and would stay there again.
The pool was beautiful, complete with comfortable chaises longues and umbrellas.
But, of course, the best of it all was the breakfasts to please any pallette. We also chose to have dinner there three of our six evenings and were totally impressed with the presentation/quantity and taste of our dinners. What an additional special treat!!!
We thank Julien and Carole for making our stay one that we will never forget.

Sous L'Olivier, Lagnes, Provence, France.

We have been staying here each summer for the last 10 years! We started coming before we had children and now our children are 2 and 3 yrs old we are still coming back. Wonderful location, fantastic food. In the evening everyone who chooses to dine there sits around one of the two huge tables outside and talks over wine and cusine. The pool, gardens and lounges offer a lovely place to unwind. Location wise, there are so many gems of towns to see within half an hour, that you won't get to see them all.

Unlike some B&B's, they are happy for you to relax at the house all day if you choose and make you very welcome. Julien and Carole are great hosts. Julien learned to cook from his mother (herself a fantastic cook with a restaurant in town) and he went on to train in a top London restaurant, before returning home to start his B&B business.

If I was being selfish, I wouldn't post this - as we would like to keep it to ourselves, but we have met so many freindly and intersting guests around the table over the years, that I thought - wht the hell!
