“Wonderful accommodation with large heated pool a huge bonus . . . .”
Reviewed October 12, 2009

We stayed at the Bastide Saint Georges for a few days in October and very much enjoyed our stay. The rooms were very modern and furnished to a high standard. The heated pool was a delight for our children who would spend any free time enjoying the sun. The spa was an added extra with the hot tub great to relax in after a long day touring the magnificent scenic area. We ate in the local restaurant twice and very much enjoyed our food. The chef/propreitor was very pleasant and the food beautifully presented.

After reading the reviews & viewing the photos at the hotels web site, we thought this would be a nice place for a romantic break. Unfortunately it was nothing special at all, and a bit too noisy. The room was well decorated, clean, and the bed comfortable, however staff apparently never noticed that the shower head was partly blocked, its hose in need of replacement, causing it too bend & cut off the water supply, and the support for the shower head broken. Also, after taking our showers, sewer odors were present in the bathroom. The hotel is definitely not worth the high season rate of €180/night, but easier to accept at 95, had there not been the problems in the bathroom. The biggest disappointment was the restaurant! I recall reading "refined" somewhere, however that is DEFINITELY not the word I would use describe their cuisine. The champagne was almost flat (they changed it), the entré was more a large salad with the entré in the middle, and the creme brulé had only a thin layer of cream (less than 1cm thick) with a thick layer of sugar. My wife's worst, in her opinion. The fish was acceptable, though not exceptional. The chef was very conscientious & amiable. Unfortunately, his positiveness didn't make up for the problems.

My husband, 4 year old son and I stayed at this hotel for 5 nights. It was our first time here at this hotel and we were very pleased with the accommodations. We had the Eleanore room which is supposedly one of the newer ones and it had very elegant appointments and a very spacious bathroom, plus a large covered patio...plenty of room for 3. The pool was really a highligyht each afternoon following our excursions to the nearby Valensole plain.
The pool was very large, had expansive steps and was heated as necessary...the whole setting was very relaxing. The staff was fine and as helpful as they could be. We wished all our other accommations throughout our vacation were as nice as this. We highly recommend La Bastide St. Georges.

Lovely setting, great terrace, rooms spread around like a motel, and our room was unfinished with wires hanging out of the bathroom light. Unpainted MDF shelving in alcove with curtain in front. Comnfortable bed, pillows and good bedding. Pool ok, but heated in June and far too warm, - as agreed by all who used it.

Staff very laid back, - when we wanted a drink on the terrace pre-dinner, the receptionist came to a counter, with a coffee machine, (where breakfast was served from), and said that she wasn't sure how to make a drink, as she didn't drink alcohol. They also had no Gin, but she found a bottle of Vodka in a cupboard. My husband was asked to make the drinks. Our surprise came the next day when we were charged 17 euros for two gin and tonics we made ourselves!

We booked dinner when we made the room reservation, not realising the restaurant was not part of the hotel, but down the road (within walking distance). The food was mediocre, in fact the lamb was inedible, - we complained (in French) but the chef refused to acknowledge that there was anything wrong. Only people in the restaurant were foreign tourists.

In summary, the whole operation was very amateur, quite expensive, and certainly not worth it.

This hotel was part of a cycling tour that we did this year. It was the first and last stop and it was great to start and end on such a high!

The rooms were really lovely, the breakfast substantial and the setting for the hotel is just beautiful. You're within easy reach of some lovely places to visit in Provence but no-one would blame you if you preferred to just stay by the pool all day either.

Staff were friendly and helpful and we would be keen to return when I am next in the neighbourhood.

We booked this hotel since we wanted to see the 'Tour de France'. We thought 170Euros a night was a bit steep but were beguiled by the description of a calm place.
The room was lovely and the surroundings stunning. However we were not really greeted on arrival and we would have liked more written information in the room.
The worst thing was that it was the school holidays. We could hardly get in the pool because of all the children, (admittedly they were well behaved) and felt we had come to a mini-holiday camp. We never met 'George'.
We also didn't realise that the restaurant was not part of the hotel and that we would have so many other holiday cottages around.
We didn't feel this hotel was value for money. We have been to France many times and stayed in much better hotels that were cheaper.

We stayed here as part of a self-guided cycling tour organised with Inn Travel, and it was a fantastic starting and finishing point for our holiday. The rooms are mostly in annexes around the pool, and were delightfully decorated in pretty, rustic Provencal style. The bathrooms were large and everything looked brand new and immaculately clean. There is a restaurant on site, which was very good. The owners were also very pleasant and helpful and spoke perfect English. Forcalquier is a bit of a walk (or short cycle) away, but it is picturesque and the weekly market was fun. The only slight downside was the pool was a bit chilly in May!
