La Bastide St Georges

La bastide st George is in itself an excellent place to stay. The accommodation is stylish, clean and luxurious and it's been an absolute pleasure to relax by the pool and enjoy a glass of wine in their beautiful gardens with spectacular views. That aside I would avoid the restaurant attached with this hotel at all costs. We went with a prebooked cycling holiday which meant that our first and last night were prebooked at this hotel and restaurant. On the first night our duck main course was so over cooked I thought I was cutting through bone. We complained to the chef who advised us it wasthe Provence style. Given it was our first night we gave him the benefit of the doubt. Given the consistently good quality of food throughout the rest of the week at all of the other establishments we were quite reluctant to return even though we had already paid for it as part of our deal. Unfortunately our concerns were realised and after being served raw salmon and a tart that was black after being burnt to a crisp we asked to see the chef and were told he would be with us in five minutes. 45 mins after asking this we had to take the tart into the kitchen ourselves to find the chef arrogant and refusing to offer any solution. Interestingly we also watched at least one other table complain about the food. It's such a shame that such a beautiful hotel is linked to such a terrible restaurant, it's so dissapointing for the hotel and such a let down for the idea of exceptional food in France.

This hotel is very nice for those who like stylish boutique hotels. However, I cannot recommend the standard room (without terrace) as the window is located towards the driveway to the hotel.
Staff very nice, terrace, pool and garden excellent and very well maintained.
The hotel is located outside of Forcalquier, so you would absolutely want to come by car/bike and not by public transport.

This well designed hotel/resort complex comprises rooms, villas, a pool, a restaurant and a wonderful terrace with a beautiful view. The complex doesn't entirely blend into the countryside but it's well landscaped, tidy, comfortable and calm. Very kind and enthusiastic service. Good food at the restaurant.

We were given a family room with an extra bed and a cot to accomodate our family of 6. Often family rooms can be a bit grubby due to extra wear and tear but not in this case. The room was modern and spotlessly clean. The three beds for the older children were up on a mezzanine (which they all loved although I was slightly nervous of the 3 year old on the stairs.) The bathroom was quite small but again, spotless. There was a little patio with table and chairs to the front. It looked out towards the beautiful pool which was much warmer than many hotel pools we have experienced. There was plenty of seating and a lovely terrace above for an evening drink. It was quite pricey, but I think this is probably due to its location. The welcome was very professional. The restaurant operates independently, a little walk down the road. Although the hotel confirmed a restaurant reservation for us, when we arrived for dinner, the restaurant didn't have a record of it. However, despite being quite full, they quickly sorted out a table for the 6 of us. Dinner was lovely with good quality children's food. Maybe booking directly would be sensible. Overall we loved this hotel, and will definitely go again.

There were 33 of us, age 3 to 70, and we all loved this hotel. Staff were particluarly helpful in dealing with Air France and delayed luggage. They also helped out with some laundry. We stayed in all kinds of accommodation, ranging from basic rooms to prestige rooms, from apartments to villas. All were beautifully appointed. Would return in a heartbeat.

The Saint-Georges is very nicely set in bungalows dotted around the immaculate gardens which overook the Luberon hills in the distance. I took a more expensive superior room whose patio, unlike the standard rooms, is covered and quite secluded. And it was very pleasant: spacious and tastefully decorated.

Alas the hotel lets itself down in a few aspects. In the room the cloth storage is just open bare plywood shelves, many crawling insects, no real rails to dry the bathroom towels, unrepaired room door, only one ridiculously tiny plastic waste bin, ... And the swimming pool shower does not work.

However the main drawback is that the hotel, while serving lunches, does not have an evening restaurant service. Indeed there is an indepentently run one in the same domain. Their cooking is good, especially for the price, but the reception is cold, the service painfully slow, the style out of place and the piped radio loud. And the choice in the nearby town of Forcalquier is limited, especially in the evening. Good to know that Tuesday seems to the evening for restaurant closing there.

We stayed on the first and last night of a cycling trip with Inntravel (an excellent tour overall). We raced to get back to this hotel on our last day. On our first night there was a large family party in the hotel and we were put in a lovely 2 bedroomed bungalow in the grounds. Our last night was in the Blue Nature room, which was even better!
The restaurant is all of 100 metres from the hotel within the grounds and food is good and well priced, though not the best we had on the holiday.
The staff were really helpful and friendly.
We would actually consider returning for a holiday there.
