Peter and I had a wonderful time and enjoyed talking to Jason and Peta. They were very friendly and helpful. We learned about the area and we would love to come back for a longer visit.

“Away from it all”
Reviewed September 24, 2017 for a stay in September 2017

Our stay in La Porcherie Saturday2nd to Monday 11th Sept 2017

We arrived at La Porcherie, Brenda and I towards 7pm and were met by Sue and Ally who were standing in for the owners Peta and Jorda. They
helped us carry our belongings up the steps to the gite and showed us how to use the gas oven and were everything was.

They made us feel very welcome. The owners were away in China, it seemed. It must be said that our stay was somewhat blighted
by poor weather, but we did manage to visit Deauville, Trouville and Honfleur as well as Pegasus Bridge and the Normandy
Landing Beaches. Later on we managed a tour of La Suisse Normande, but being an elderly couple were unable to take part in
exploring the many walks that the area boasts of.

As for the La Porcherie, it would be difficult to criticise it in any way. Inside is everything you need - small kitchen
with gas cooker, microwave, fridge, quality crockery and cutlery. Outside the kitchen is a dining area - dining table and
four chairs. a settee, small armchair and a TV with French programmes. The spiral staircase is easy to negociate and upstairs
is a small landing and a bedroom with a comfortable double bed.

No doubt it must be nice to sit out and enjoy the sun and have alfresco meals, but the weather denied us that pleasure.
Sue and Ally helped to make our stay a pleasurable experience and invited us into the big house one evening for a chat
over wine and a game involving small numbered tiles. A good time was had by all.

Sue and Jason got back from China at the end of the stay, but jet lag kept them preoccupied for a day, but we got
together for a chat and learnt about the China venture. We missed seeing Peta on our last day as we set off early for the UK,
around 7am.

All in all we enjoyed our stay at La Porcherie and in the Suisse Normande area, despite the chilly weather. It certainly is
off the beaten track and peace and quiet are guaranteed. The one suggestion we could make which would find favour with the
elderly and infirm would be a handrail to help negociate the steps leading up to the patio. That said, thank you Peta,
Jason, and Ally (if that's how you spell it) for a very pleasant stay and holiday. Can recommend the Café des Quais in
Condé-sur-Noireau if you like good food, well cooked in pleasant surroundings.

“Pretty, Relaxing and 'Away from it all' accommodation!!!”

Although we didn't realise it was in such a secluded spot, it was fab!!. Local amenities in Thury-Harcourt only 5 minutes away by car. The accommodation was really pretty, shabby chic style with great views over the countryside. Going to sleep with just the sound of crickets and birds each night was so relaxing. Owners are a lovely couple who made us feel very welcome together with Harvey the dog!! :) Great spot if you want to visit the D-Day Sights, only an hour away to the furthest point on the Normandy Coast, but away from the hustle and bustle. Definitely looking to return in the future. Thank you :) xx

“Relaxed and tranquil launch pad to explore north Normandy”
Reviewed August 3, 2015 for a stay in July 2015

We found this delightful cottage to be a perfect retreat away from everyday life. It was clean, comfortable and the owners were very friendly and helpful.

A particular highlight was being able to purchase free range eggs from the owners who had their own chickens!

We would happily recommend this to anyone who wants the authentic gite experience. It would particularly suit those interested in visiting the D-Day landing sites and museums as well as the history/backdrop of the Norman conquest.

“Beautiful and quiet. The ideal place to get away from it all..”
Reviewed June 17, 2014 for a stay in June 2014

Our trip to Normandy was for personal reasons to do with the 70th anniversary of the D-Day Landings. We didn't want to stay too near to the beaches, the crowds expected would have been way too much hassle for us. Instead we looked at staying about an hour away, in a rural part of Lower Normandy. We looked at a number of places and this one stood out. I can't tell you why, it just did! Booking was simple by email and unusually for French gîtes, even those owned by those from the UK, this one used payment into a UK bank account. Makes the whole booking and payment so much easier. A few emails and it was all sorted.

On arrival, we were greeted by Peta, Jason was out but made himself known a little later. Have to say at the outset, these two made us feel very welcome and settled before we knew it. La Porcherie is a lovely cottage right next to their house and is self contained, well laid out and very comfortable. The bedroom upstairs is beautiful and has a roof window as well as fully opening windows looking out over open countryside. We had some great clear nights when we just stood at these windows and watched the countryside bathed in a milky moonlight glow.

Downstairs is a large living area. The kitchen area is part of this but is divided from the main space by a low dividing wall. You can cook and still be part of the conversation. Also in this open plan space is a dining table that seats four and a small armed chair with a sofa that can convert into a bed. Heating throughout is by electric radiators and a "Stove" in the main living area that blows hot air. We did need the heating a couple of days, but the weather was very kind to us.

There is a patio with a table and four chairs, on a summers afternoon, it is bright but not too hot. It is also a lovely social spot when Peta and Jason are about. Afternoon tea on the patio with some local delicacies, or locally produced "Cidre" and a few nibbles goes down a treat. Talking of Cidre, On arrival we had a bottle left for us in the fridge. Delicious and better still, this can be purchased directly from your hosts. Eggs too, they have chickens and fresh eggs for breakfast? Super!

Sadly, our time at La Porcherie went all too quickly. It was time to pack up and leave this idyllic piece of heaven and head home. What will we miss most? I'd like to say it was the quiet surroundings or the beautiful gîte or even the gorgeous weather. Well, it was all of those things but we really can't leave out the most important reason our stay was so good... Jason and Peta! Friendly and funny, offering a great service in a great place. If Carlsberg did French Rural holidays...

“Relaxing rural location within an hour of the ferry”
Reviewed October 12, 2013 for a stay in September 2013

The cottage provides very good value accommodation in a rural location but close to the ferry, WW2 sites, Bayeux etc. Somewhere we would readily go back to explore the area more on foot and bike. Very firendly welcoming owners.
