We have been before and it is well worth a second look.

Not sure about the weird temporary installations as it is an excellent museum but some of them made us laugh, although I am not sure that was the intention of them!

The reason why I only gave it an average score was there was about 100 schoolchildren in there and they were sitting down in 3 of the rooms, so it was not possible to really look in those rooms without stepping over bodies.
I work in a museum and when we have school outings we only have 30 at a time and huddle them over in a corner so not to spoil enjoyment for others.Just a thought.

There was certainly much to see in the museum but all the information was in French and it was not until we were leaving that we discovered that English headphones were available!! The first room appeared empty until we realised that to see the displays in that room you needed to open cupboard doors!!

There was an exposition on maps which also was worth viewing

If you are in the neigboorhoud of Cassel don't hesitate and go to the little museum. At this moment you can see "La flandre et la mer". They announced an extra week opening

A little gem to pass an hour touring. 3Euro entrance for the 60+. Well worth supporting.
There was a travelling exhibition of sea paintings on our visit. Very interesting. 500 and 400 year old paintings in beautiful condition.
Friendly staff. Closes for lunch but you can come back after your lunch at "Le Sauvage". My recommendation! But I haven't tried the rest!

12 May 2015. Could have stayed much longer exploring this hill-top town (Yes it is does top a hill, and the drive up is an experience). We could have stayed much longer in the museum and the staff were very helpful.
