Recommended length of visit: 1-2 hours
Owner description: The sumptuous Chateau-Abbaye de Cassan rises from the midst of vineyards and olive groves. A modest monastic retreat which became a powerful royal priory then a sumptuous princely dwelling, the castle houses a vast Romanesque church (XIIth cen.) And an abbey palace (XVIIIth cen.), Warranting the name of the little Versailles of Languedoc. Here the past breathes through the coolness of the secular stonework. This historical site is a genuine showcase for a number of cultural events. In 2017, the individual visit of the site is closed due to renovations of the main roof

Despite all the signs this is only open for a few days each week and we were disappointed that it was not open when we turned up (a Saturday) What we could seen from the outside suggest it is worth a visit so maybe we will try again.

A very impressive building with an atmospheric feel, set in a lovely location. The chapel is interesting.
Close to the road, it is worth stopping for a look around.

Beautiful area and countryside. Only downstairs open to the public but still very interesting. Great Chapel.

An 11th century chapel and a 17th century chateau set in lovely countryside. Plans for the future which might make it less visitable - it is a little gem. The Christmas Market on the last weekend of November is a must
