Recommended length of visit: 1-2 hours
Owner description: The sumptuous Chateau-Abbaye de Cassan rises from the midst of vineyards and olive groves. A modest monastic retreat which became a powerful royal priory then a sumptuous princely dwelling, the castle houses a vast Romanesque church (XIIth cen.) And an abbey palace (XVIIIth cen.), Warranting the name of the little Versailles of Languedoc. Here the past breathes through the coolness of the secular stonework. This historical site is a genuine showcase for a number of cultural events. The individual visit opens the June 15th 2018. In 2017 the site has been closed due to renovations of the main roof.

Beautiful area and countryside. Only downstairs open to the public but still very interesting. Great Chapel.

Overall very poor service and promises more than it delivers. Lovely setting

An 11th century chapel and a 17th century chateau set in lovely countryside. Plans for the future which might make it less visitable - it is a little gem. The Christmas Market on the last weekend of November is a must

Chateau de Cassan is on the road from Roujon to Gabian in Languedoc the South of France - is was built as a "home" for a small group of wealthy religious men - that is about it - it looks interesting, but years of neglect and disinterest have left an empty building with not a lot of "character" - if passing, call in close your eyes and imagine what it was once like - but not worth making a special trip unless there is a fair or concert on at the time.

It's big and hardly anything is restored. No good value for money.
