We (4 adults) stayed in this cottage/Gite for 4 nights and we only wish we could have stayed longer to enjoy the location and the comforts this property offered. The property is situated in the village with a good size secure parking area, pretty garden and a large river that runs past the back boundary. The river is accessible through a small gate and there is a garden chair there where you can sit and watch the river flowing past and the bird life.
We arrived to a very friendly welcome from the owners, parked our car securely in the front yard behind the large gates and were shown through the cottage with explanations on how everything worked and where things were. The welcome hamper provided was a very nice touch especially when we arrived late with the shops closed.
The living area and kitchen are on the ground floor with a bedroom and bathroom on the 1st floor and 2nd bedroom with ensuite on the 2nd floor.
The 1st floor bedroom had a double bed, beside tables and lamps, dressing table with large drawers, large wardrobe, large mirror, French balcony and a chest containing extra blankets. The bathroom on this floor had a toilet, basin and shower cubicle.
The 2nd floor bedroom had twin beds, wardrobe, 2 beside tables with lamps, wardrobe, dressing table and chest of drawers. The ensuite had a toilet, basin and bath with hand held shower.
The kitchen had a large fridge, gas stove top, oven, microwave, coffee maker, kettle and a pantry with staples like salt & pepper, a few spices, oil etc. There was also a washing machine in the kitchen. Cleaning products were also supplied.
The property was very clean, nicely furnished, the beds were comfortable, good quality linen and towels. The WiFi was good, heating throughout, TV with English channels, peaceful and quiet.
The location is excellent for enjoying life beside a large river and exploring the many châteaus and attractions in the Loire Valley. The town of Descartes is only about 4km away and if offers 2 large supermarkets, restaurants, bars etc. One restaurant we went to that was very good was Le Cherizy at 5 rue Rene Boylesve, Descartes that is open for lunch and dinner (lunch is much cheaper, which is common in France).
The owners answered my emails quickly and the booking process went smoothly.
You can walk to the EthniCite village from the cottage. The town is famous for this village which was caved into a limestone cliff in the 12th century for Richard the lion heart. It is open to tourists who want to explore the cave houses.
The owners were very accommodating wanting to help us in anyway they could to make our stay comfortable. Thank you Dawn and John for your hospitality and we hope to be back again when we are next in France.
We all enjoyed our stay and would recommend it to our family and friends.
