Just got back from a long weekend at his beautiful gite, a family holiday with 3 generations this place catered to all from the one 1 year loving the chickens, sheep
And swing, to the over 60s loving crochet and table tennis. The house is beautiful Both inside and out, flowers climbing the walls of the house over the bbq and outdoor seating area, with lovely county side views. It has A lovely warm peaceful pool to relax by after a busy day exploring chateaus. The house is well fitted, they kitchen has EVERYTHING you could possibly need to cook with. The welcome basket of goodies was a lovely touch on arrival after a long drive. Kath and her husband are both lovely welcoming couple. It’s a great hidden gem!!
We will be back! Thanks to you both for a fab weekend.
We have enjoyed two blissful stays at La Belardiere - in 2016 & 2017. For a family of 7 (2 adults, 5 children ages 11-17), it was just gorgeous. Beautiful peaceful location, wonderfully friendly hosts, clean and spacious accommodation, lovely pool and plenty of activities on site and beyond. If you are after a quiet relaxing holiday this is the place - with internet if you/the kids don't want to be too cut off.
Kath and Roger are full of advice and suggestions of places to go and things to see and do in the beautiful Val de Loire and will tailor to your interests. Rural France at its best, complete with character chickens and friendly goat :)
We were a three-generation family group travelling from Poole - Cherbourg. By taking the 8.30 ferry out we were easily able to reach Le Verger by 19.00. Kath had organised a small hamper containing supper and breakfast for us so that we could settle in before food shopping the next day.
Le Verger was purpose-designed by Kath and Roger and is remarkable for being spacious whilst still retaining the character of the original building. It was perfect for the ten of us: very well-equipped, clean, comfortable, light and airy. The property and grounds were very child-friendly and we made good use of the lovely pool, gas barbeque and the many games provided. Another family of five was staying at the same time and there was plenty of room for us all to spend lazy days at the property.
There are many local chateaux and other attractions to suit all the ages in our party and Roger and Kath were the perfect hosts.
We have been lucky enough to holiday at La Belardiere twice now - and really hope we will visit again as we LOVE it! We had an amazingly relaxing week chasing chickens out of the kitchen, swimming in the pool, watching the kids in the pool, watching the kids in the pool again, feeding sheep, playing games in the garden, and supping beer on the terrace. Not only that - we swam in a local river!
It was quite simply Bliss. and hosted perfectly by Kath and Roger who have created a heavenly haven.
Wow what a place! There were 8 of us in Le Verger for two weeks and it was a fabulous stay. The accommodation is top notch - really comfortable- and the gardens are just brilliant, with everything from the great pool to the table tennis to the badminton court. We loved the animals, particularly Polly the pup and the chickens. And Kath and Roger were fantastic hosts, giving us lots of information and even taking us for the odd cycle ride! They were lovely with the children, too. We couldn’t have had a better time. We’d love to go again.
Six of us stayed at Le Verger in July 2017 and had a wonderful time. The house has everything you could need and Kath and Roger were perfect hosts, they couldn't do enough for us. The large house is spacious and very well equipped and the garden, pool and play area keeps everyone entertained. It must be one of the best holiday gites in the whole of France.
We decided to take our three grown up children , their partners and our five month old Grandaughter for the week as our present Pearl Wedding present to ourselves. The whole week could not have been any more perfect on all fronts. Kath and Roger were the perfect hosts throughout the week with no request for any information about what to do, where to eat etc being any sort of problem. There was a lovely welcome hamper of helpful food and drink in the gite upon arrival and this set the tone for our whole stay at this beautiful and very peaceful venue.
The accommodation was simply sumptuous throughout the gite but also very modern and serviceable but can only be describes as five star in every resepct. We ate out on the patio all bar one of the nights when we went to an excellent local restaurant that our hosts recommended. A large party like ours can use the very large patio table to meet every dining need whist the equally large indoor table offers plenty of flexibility at other times. It was great to stay somewhere where there was more than enough plates, cups, bowls, cutlery, glasses and chairs!!
Whether you want to relax by the beautifully maintained pool, have a sleep on one of the hammocks, walk the grounds or play badminton, table tennis, table football, croquet or boule there was more than enough options for things to do if you were staying on site. For the more active the hosts can lend you a number of good quality bikes for use on the very quiet local roads as well as some for off road. Some of us took the chance to enjoy a 2k swim in the nearby Creuse down to Descartes which is the nearest small town and has all the services to could need on holiday.
There are also plenty of places to go and visit that are no more than about thirty minutes drive and we particularly the market at Loches on Wednesday. This beautiful walled town is well worth a visit although Descartes itself has a lovely if much smaller market on a Sunday morning which you can nicely top off with a drink in one of the cafes in the square.
The beautiful peace and quiet the location offered cannot be stressed enough and offers the perfect setting to unwind but to also be as active or as inactive as you wish to be in equal measure. This is a top, top place to stay and we have every intention of returning in the future - although it is quite understandable that both of the properties get booked up very well in advance so our advice would be to get in quick.
There are no more superlatives that we could hope to offer about our fantastic time here. Thank you so much, Kath and Roger.
