It's been over 18 months since my father and I spent two nights at La Ferme des Saules but, having read the reviews, I feel compelled to add a note of...of...balance to the dialog.
I'd describe La Ferme des Saules as a clean, quiet, comfortable - and well-situated place to stay while in the region. The building and grounds are charming and the meal that we had was well-prepared and the quantity more than adequate.
As all have noted, the proprietor, Didier, is a character - and not a retiring one! A stay at La Ferme des Saules is a stay with Didier. While I can understand how his mannerisms would be off-putting to some, (and perhaps all, at times), we found his stories interesting, his guidance about the region useful and his willingness to engage us refreshing. He was quite kind to my father and enthusiastic about introducing me to his 2CV. For which I am thankful.
You might not want to spend a week at La Ferme des Saules, but the food is very good, the value is great and Didier? Didier will leave you with memories. Ours are quite fond.
