Hotel Chateau de la Berchere
Reviewed October 5, 2013

We love Chateau de la Berchere and have stayed here twice (5 nights total) in the last few years. The rooms could stand an update (hence 4 stars instead of 5), but that is secondary to the charm, feel, and personalized service of staying in this historic chateau. The grounds and patio are amazing and service excellent. We would absolutely return again!

Room Tip: Splurge on the fancy tower rooms and those overlooking the patio! Canopy bed, spiral staircase, and...

Very friendly staff including a small Yorkshire dog called Elliot will welcome you. We had a great oldfashioned room in the main part of the castle, looking down to the pool and breakfast terrace, highly recommendable. Father in law had a rather smallish room in another wing, that wasn't as nice, so room selection is key. Overall, a great experience, also because the staff is really friendly and they accept also small children and dogs. We'll go there again soon with family and friends.

Room Tip: Room number 28 is great; must have been the main living room in past times.

Amazing place! Gorgeous setting, beautiful room. Very clean and tidy. And spectacular service, everyone very friendly and super helpful! My mother wasn't feeling very well when we first arrived and they were so attentive. Also offered great advice on what to see and do nearby. Oh and the owner has THE cutest little dog!! Would definitely stay here again!

Room Tip: Stayed in 'apartment' - could sleep up to 5 people (1 x king bed, 1 x queen and 1 x single)

After reading reviews here, I was really surprised to see the room which really wasn't up to scratch; not clean, lacking charm. The chateau was nice but not well kept in my opinion. Everyone else looked so happy to be there I started to think that perhaps we were given a room that is used when fully booked and perhaps the other rooms were nicer? The town was really nice with lots of eateries. A really average hotel.

We spend 1 night at the hotel on tour to Provence. It was a pleasent surprise. The swimmingpool was great; our daughter enjoyed it a lot. I was sceptical because the pictures from the presentations on the internet can often be slightly too good looking. We stayed in room #24 with an extra bed to our daughter. There were a spa in the room as well (unexpectedly); very nice. I enjoyed driving to town and buy wine while the family very enjoying the pool. We like the atmosphere in the old buildings very much. Don't expect luxery, but it is really nice. It's located very close to the highway but you can't hear the noice (maybe because the wind direction were favorable). The price for the night was 109 Euros; which I find very attractive. The price for breakfast was 13 Euros for adults (free for kids).

I'm surprised at some of the negative responses because for the money the chance to visit at close hand this particularly beautiful chateau was special. The actual chambres are not IN the chateau but converted buildings whose windows look across at the main chateau, the breakfast is served in the dining room of the chateau and was very pleasant and about the right price. Jeanne the receptionist/manager etc could not have been friendlier or more helpful, even driving into town with us following to show us where to eat. We had a great meal in the charming little town of Nuits St George in the main square with another most congenial fellow who spoke great English.
The property is very beautiful and definitely worth a night or two if you are visiting the region.

The setting of the gorgeous château is excellent. The rooms are old but clean. It is set close to a main moroway, but as trees give shelter you barely hear it. The availability of a pool was a very welcome asset in the hot weather as we arrived as well. No complaints on accomodation, good value for money.
When I ordered a gin tonic from the bar though, it went pear shaped. I stopped the intern serving me just in time before an expired tonic was used in my drink. The brown fungus in the bottle was obvious and sure enough the expiration date was somewhere in 2010. While she was looking for a fresh one, the manager popped by. Rather than apologizing he wondered what the problem was. He stated it was 'only water', poored it in a glass & drank it (brown bits floating in the glass). I decided not have breafkast in that place then and there.
