“Fantastic New Year”
Reviewed January 10, 2009

We stayed at the Columbia Beach Hotel for a New Year's break with friends. It was a brief visit but we found the rooms to be extremely clean and the staff friendly and courteous. It was a busy time but we did not find the hotel unduly noisy, although can imagine that the tiled floors might cause annoyance to some people.

On New Year's Eve the food was good, although service rather slow, much of the entertainment had a Cypriot feel (which added to the atmosphere). New Year's Day included a sumptuous buffet lunch.

Overall, a thoroughly enjoyable stay.

The hotel deserves its 5* rating, our garden suite room was spacious and immaculate. :0) Cleaning was done thoroughly everyday with a top up of Molton Brown toiletries everyday. :0)Spledid views over the sea from most areas. :0)
Breakfast is great! so much to choose from. :0)
Welcoming and top notch :0)
The only little problem is when the cleaning staff come to clean the next room early and because of tiled floors you can't sleep in on those mornings :0(
If you get a ground floor suite be sure to ask guest updtair to take off their shoes before walking around their room as you'll hear clip clop until they finally take them off :0(
Private beach area kept clean and tidy :0)
Lovely chapel with excellent paininting on the walls worth a look :0)
Taverna was an excellent starter to our holiday with live music :0) and the cats are adorable :0)

THE HOTEL IS SUPERB BUT : no way to visit anything with the travel agency nor the hotel. For each visit in the Island, you will have to either rent a car or taxi to Limassol of even Larnaca (taxi is 62€ one way). otherwise, the hotel is really superb, clean, and the personnel is very friendly (90% British at the Reception desk)

Should you renta a car (strangly advised), go to Mr PERRY's car rental agency. This man is really super friendly. His philosophy is "NO PROBLEM". he will crash mountains down for you.
He also have a restaurant in the center of the small city where the hotel is, where you will find nice and good Cyprus food.
Strongly recommended (both car rental AND restaurant).
Try and speak to PERRY directly.

Stayed in Columbia Beach Resort for a week in a Executive Junior Suite overlooking the pool.

I agree with all the comments about the poolside area, which is superb. The pool is huge and pool service attentive.

I don't understand the earlier comments about lack of choice in the number of restaurants. The resort has a fine-dining restaurant (good but expensive) and a taverna, plus a buffet restaurant in the Columbia Beach Hotel (which was less good). Outside the hotel gate in Pissouri Bay there are 9 other restaurants and tavernas: including the excellent Liminaki which serves Cyprus food but with African and Indian influences.

It is a quiet hotel in a quiet bay, so will not suite those who like to party all night. But if you are looking for somewhere to relax its close to perfect. All the restaurants and bars have ]live music in the evening, which I enjoyed (even is the standard was a bit mixed).

Service was excellent. The restaurant was fully booked by a single group on the evening of our wedding anniversary, which disappointed us. But when we complained the catering manager arranged a very romantic dinner served formally on our balcony instead.

Finally, it is expensive, both for the rooms and food and drink. Bu t I still felt that it offered value for money.

  • Liked — Pool, quiet relaxed atmosphere, location, fine dining restaurant
  • Disliked — Food in buffet restaurant was boring

We first stayed at the Columbia around 3 years ago which is when we fell in love with it and the island. We have returned around 10 times in the meantime, so believe me when I say we were loyal customers. Two years ago we had a bad experience with the 'hotel' (not the resort) where my youngest caught salmonella poisoning from the breakfast eggs. I can say this with absolute cerrainty since she ate nothing on the saturday and had breakfast on the sunday and got violently sick that afternoon. Lab results confirmed salmonella and when I informed the hotel, I got one of those 'nice' emails that basically tell you to go take a hike. Ok, we figured it was an accident and made sure any return trips we made were to the resort, not the hotel. The last time we went which was 2 weeks ago, was indescribably bad. The first disappointment was being greeted at reception, FORCED to sit until you complete the check in, where supposedly free drinks are served. Wrong. After forcing you to take a seat in the bar when you would much rather go to your room, my husband asked for coffeee yet was told only the juice they were serving was free. Another bugbear is that still, after so many return visits, we gave to fill out adress etc etc. How difficult is it to keep a database? Paying 400E for a suite which was fractionally larger than a normal room was the second disappointment. But the icing on the cake was eating at the taverna in the evening. Both my husband's and daughter's food tasted off (one had off tomatoes, the other off mushrooms) My pasta dish was the most tasteless pasta I have had in a long time and was swimming in an inch of oil! The staff are polite but most are young and inexperienced and hover around ineffectually even when you are waving madly in their direction. There seem to be weddings every weekend, which is picturesque and lovely until you are trying to sleep through the music. Kids club does not seem to operate on a regular basis any more either. The F&B manager was not very apologetic and on check out, we had to force the issue of not paying for the dinner. They did however send up a little tray of sweets to the room!! Sadly, the Columbia has become pomp over substance.

This Resort is Paradise, the pool is amazing, the staff cannot do enough for you, I went with my wife and 4 year old, she had a fantastic time, and if the kids enjoy it , it makes the adults holiday even better, I will be back at least once a year, if not more often, this is the best place I have stayed in Europe for relaxation, good food, swimming (okay the beach is a not sand, but you've really no need to go there when the pool is so fantastic for everyone. The area surrounding has places with great food, its quite but very relaxing, 5 Star recommendation for everyone especially those with young kids. Go there to believe it, you wont be disappointed.

I have just returned from a week at this hotel and it was great! Yes the drinks were overpriced but having read the reviews before we went it wasn't a shock. The pool was like a bath, never went in the sea too many stones. Even though very hot we sat on the beach every day and the breeze kept us just right. Loads of towels and sunbeds. People did put out towels but I don't know why it wasn't necessary. There were children there but I wouldn't recommend it as not much there for them to do. Went next door to the resort (very pricey) for a drink, too quiet we were the only ones in the bar at 10.00! Would say this is a great place too chill out.
