We had high hopes of this Hotel, unfortunately it fell way short of our expectations. Firstly our suite was situated at the summit of this resort, good job we are both fit and active as the walk to the suite was demanding. If you have walking issues or you are physically challenged this place is not for you.The restaurants serve good food, and have very good entertainment,Bachus especially, both are frequented by the numerous cats that are encouraged by the Hotel, so if you like cats at your feet, cats under the table, cats cleaning themselves, cats watching your every mouthfull of food, these restaurants are definitely for you.
The sand/shingle beach is fine, beach service is sporadic to say the least. Service definitely improved the day before a wedding! That might be because regular guests seem to play second fiddle to the wedding parties!!
If you like to swim in the sea be particularly careful, the shore line is an obstacle course of large stones, be careful of the submerged rocks also!
Columbia beach Hotel has aspirations of grandeur, unfortunately it does not come anywhere near genuine 5 star rated Hotels.

Thank you for your review and constructive comments that we have taken on board positively. We would like to mention that the Columbia Beach Resort and Columbia Beachotel offer a buggy service to all rooms and should our guests not chose to walk, our porters are readily available to taxi them around.
We do sustain a the Columbia Cat Care Project so the cats, though maybe irritating to some guests, are welocmed by others as our house cats. They are all vaccinated and well taken care of. We shall try to keep them away from the restaurnats but this is challenging when some are fed by cat loving guests. Some have been adopted by our guests.
We do hope that you return in 2013

Fantastic pool, spa, gym and squash courts. Really friendly and helpfull staff. Great location. Tranquil, we went in September (no school kids). Rooms were large and well designed as were bathrooms. Molton Browns were a treat. Shower slightly puny. Room had a lingering but minor smell of tobacco from a previous resident but the staff did their best to get rid of it. Lots of space around the pool and gardens and beach despite full occupancy. Food really nice in both restaurants. The a la carte restaurant really did deliver a culinary experience, watch out for the eclectic menu. Goose liver tiramisu was a strange experience! We spent ten days their and at no point did we feel the need to explore the area. We would go back again.

Room Tip: Ask for the garden suites. We stayed in 2401.

I spent a week at this hotel and the weather was lovely. The hotel and environs are well and accurately described and what I liked about the holiday was the staff who were friendly and polite and on the Monday night they invited the new arrivals to a cocktail hour. I was staying on my own and I can confirm that the hotel was safe and pleasant.
People get up and put their towels on the sunbeds before 7! There was only one day when I could not find a sun bed. What I did not like much was the other guests who seemed rather standoffish. Although some other guests would acknowledge me and say good morning, I did not have a conversation with anyone until the day before I left and over breakfast in the morning that I was leaving. When coming down to dinner on night four, the waiter asked me if I had a reservation although I don't think he asked any of the couples.
Pleasant enough and relaxing but it would have been better if, occasionally, if I had been spoken to my at my dinner table for one.

Room Tip: The rooms that frame the pool and face the sea I would guess would be the better.

We could think of no satisfactory explanation for the sullen and disinterested service we experienced at this resort, which occasionally strayed into sheer rudeness by anyone’s standards. Maybe, immediately prior to our arrival, the staff were told that they had to take a 50% pay cut and so decided to go on a ‘work to rule’.

At any rate, with the odd exception, the staff during our week were unable to smile, make eye contact, say anything except in mono-syllables (a blunt “yes” or “no” to a request/question) or put anything down on a table without banging it. Some did not respond at all to a request or even a casual greeting such as “good morning”. After a couple of days of this we began to be paranoid that this was a reaction to perceived rudeness on our part. So we made an effort to be extra courteous. No difference. Maybe it was all our subjective feelings and these belied the reality? So on our penultimate day we counted the number of staff interactions which resulted in a smile: we managed to elicit a smile (only once volunteered) on just 4 out of 9 times!

This was all a shame because physically the resort is good – the pool area is actually better than the photos would suggest; the resort is also efficiently run; (food’s awful but then that’s Cyprus). But somewhere along the line someone’s forgotten that an essential facet of ‘luxury’ is not whether your towels are changed twice a day but whether an effort is made to treat you as a human being. The Stasi-like efficiency of this place suggests that the management would prefer not to be inconvenienced with guests.

Thank you for visiting the Resort.
Not only have we not reduced the salaries by 50% but we are one of the few hotels that have sustained the same level of staffing and by a majority, the same staff over the years.
We shall, however, investigate your comments and try to identify the departments we require to re-train.
It is worth noting that we employ 200 members of staff and therefore it would be helpful if you could pin-point the areas where the five persons, whom did smile, work.
Thank you

We ate at the Apollo restaurant twice. It is expensive but the food is completely delicious and the service is excellent. Special mention should be made of Andreas, who helped us to improve our greek pronunciation and rectify some grammatical mistakes. The restaurant has live music played by two guitarists; one of whom is a famous actor in Cyprus. They have been entertaining customers for about 20 years we were told.

Feel free to walk around the massive hotel, which is comprised of a hotel and a resort. All in all, a 5 stars place.

Room Tip: Book a table in advance.
