“Best ski holiday ever!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 26, 2009

Stayed in the Posthotel with husband and in-laws, this was my first time, the others had stayed once before. Had a wonderfully relaxing week skiing and also using the Posthotel spa. The bedrooms are basic but the atmosprehe, spa and especially food well make up for what the rooms might be lacking. I've never experienced such a lavish and varied buffet in a hotel, each evening the dinner was themed ie Italian on one evening, Austrian on the next etc. Even in the middle of the winter the selection of fresh salads and vegetables was amazing! Will definitely go back!!!

The more time you spend in Austria the more you start to understand their attitude to hospitality and hotel operation - it isn't quick buck territory or a job to take up as an escape from the rat race as we often see in the UK approach to running hotel's.

The Posthotel has been subject to investment by the same family through many generations and it shows - the quality of just about everything from buildings, rooms, fixtures, fittings, facilities is nothing short of lavish; they don't seem to do things to get a break even return in 5 years; they must develop for the next generation to whom they are going to pass the hotel - its only on this basis can you appreciate the attention to detail and expense that goes into this hotel and the experience it creates for its guests.

We stayed for 5 nights then left for Lake Garda and Venice but after two nights away, we cancelled Italy and headed back for 5 more unscheduled nights at the Posthotel - IT WAS THAT GOOD!

Food was of the traditional Austrian type; on the menu it sounds plain weird when translated into English but on the plate, its very familiar to the UK palate and delicious. Breakfast was nothing short of historic - probably one of the most lavish breakfast buffets you'll come across.

Public areas were numerous and luxurious; dining room was stylish but comfortable, bedrooms were large and fitted out to a very high standard and the pool and spa were probably one of the best indoor/outdoor facilities I've seen.

For a family such as ours that enjoys being active it was so easy to have a great vacation; my daughter could go riding everyday on the hotels own stable of pedigree horses, my son and I could go golfing on their 9 hole course, we often had an indoor tennis hall to ourselves and we could all indulge in hiking, biking and sight seeing in the surrounding hills and moutains.

Guess you are getting the impression I liked this place - so true!

We have been several times to the Post Hotel over a period of 25 years and with good reason. We have stayed in Winter, Summer and Autumn with family, friends and even with corporate clients.

Not one single friend that we have introduced to the Hotel over a number of years has failed to be impressed with its friendliness and charm. Most are now repeat customers.

If you want five star city slick forget it. This is about pure unadulterated Austrian charm and service of the highest quality.

Let's begin with the staff: Some people may prefer to be left alone and frown upon the personal touch, but for those that like that extra 'made to feel special ' time, the staff here get top marks. From those that we have known for sometime and some new, every member of the hotels service looks after each guest ,as if part of the family. There is always a smiling face
willing to serve in a polite, efficient yet not intrusive manner. The Hotel has a fantastic team. They cannot do enough to make sure your stay is entirely pleasant.

Food: how anyone who has written a review of the Post Hotel can suggest that the food is anything other than of a consistently high quality must be mad? Yes it is mainly Austrian fare, but that is exactly what you would expect and what we have enjoyed for many years.
Breakfasts have a variety of beautifully fresh produce that for be fit for anyone's table. Yes it is Buffet mostly, but that again is the fun. If you want to be waited on and choose from a set menu go elsewhere! The fun for young and old is in the choosing. There is exquisite fresh fruit, cereals of every variety. Home baked breads and rolls complemented by home made butter. Home made jams and preserves of every flavour. Their own farm produced cold cuts and pates are delightful. For those who want cooked breakfast, just name your choice. Beautiful eggs cooked any way, bacon, sausage even steak if you wish. Juices, teas and coffees with choice as good as any specialist outlet. The pastry chef is top class and produces sweet things that taste so light you almost believe you won't put weight on! If you have any room left there is the cheese board or yoghurts or quarks etc etc. You can eat as much or as little as you want. children can choose what they want. Buffet yes, about the best you will get and the concept works.
Lunch: One reviewer complained that it was soup and salad only for lunch. With all due respect to them the hotel quotes half board for breakfast and dinner. They just put out complimentary food at lunchtime as an extra. Thats for anyone who missed breakfast or has any room left. There is also an attractive A la carte menu with perfecctly presented local dishes. Dishes include local venison and Achensee caught fresh fish.
If you don't fancy lunch there are also complimentary cakes and pastries laid out at tea time. All delightfully fresh and home made.

Dinner: Oh dear! oh dear! back to the hardship of the Buffet, where you can feast your eyes on hot and cold starters, soups, salads.Souffles, pastas, roulade, every day something different. Which reviewer wrote tinned food? Completely untrue. Fresh, fresh and more fresh! Main courses are served at the table and the choice is kept reasonably simple, but are always beautifully cooked and presented. We have never been disappointed with the main dishes. Also if you really don't fancy what's on there, the chefs have often gladly cooked something else to order, particularly for children. To cap it all there are gorgeous ice creams, pastries and desserts for young and old. If you have any room left a fantastic international cheese board and fresh fruit awaits. The food is quite frankly immensely plentiful and of the highest quality.
Drink: There is an extensive wine list of reasonably priced very attractive Austrian wines. There is however a full compliment of wines from most wordly regions priced accordingly. There is something for every palate.

In order to enjoy all the wonderful food one does feel the need to take some excercise. Tennis courts, swimming pools, a 9 hole golf course, complimentary bikes, horse riding, squash, fitness room, fitness programmes led by experienced instructors. There is sailing, windsurfing, diving, at the nearby Achensee.Wonderful mountain walks and treks. In Winter there is wonderful skiing and langlauf nearby. There is pretty well every choice of sporting activity you could wish for provided or organised by the Hotel.

After the excercise then follows the Spa and Wellness area. A domain of the utmost quality, that caters for every personal requirement from simple pampering to deep treatments. A vast array of different and wonderful treatments from facials to mineral oil baths await you. The sauna and steam area is superb and allows total relaxation and cleansing. I judge every spa I have been to on the Post Hotel and they seldom come close to the overall diversity and quality. Quite superb.

One reviewer wrote that the bedrooms are too hot and not airconditioned. They are kept warm but you are in the beautiful Austrian mountainside. Open a window and breathe the fresh mountain air!. Who needs airconditioning! The Hotel generally is kept quite warm, but there are so many escape routes to fresh air, it does not cause discomfort. The bedrooms are perfectly comfortable and clean. Bathrooms clean and efficient. Rooms are mostly simple and clean. That is Tirol, that is Austria, that is charm. There are of course plusher more luxurious hotel rooms to be found, but they are very acceptable. It is for us about the Hotel's overall ambience that works so well.

For children it is great. Remember the Post Hotel provides a COMPLIMENTARY Kiddie Club or creche. When our children were to young to ski having the creche in the Hotel provided gratis was a major plus. Trips to see the farm animals and hotel pets, a games room, the whole swimming area. Kids have fun here, with the whole array of swimming pools being most popular.
The Evenings are centred around the main room and bar, but after all the food, sport and pampering guests tend to go to bed reasonably early. It is not a hotel for those that want to go nightclubbing, more about relaxation, the art of conversation and making one's own fun. Live music, one reviewer might have described as cheesy, perhaps yes but again I think it adds to the overall charm. The young guests are always captivated by live music, whilst the oldies can join in as little or as much as they wish. Some of the dancing evening have been very lively and great fun. Evenings are what you make them with your friends and family with the help of wonderful service and beautiful surroundings.
If you are looking for oppulence or clinical cleanliness which encourages inverted snobbery, stay away. If you want that satisfying all round feel good factor that leaves you smiling and contented the Post Hotel is perfect for that.
Ignore tiny little imperfections and enjoy one of the finest all round winners you will find. Highest recommendation
By the way the spring water is divine!

My partner and I went to the Posthotel having seen a review of the hotel in the Times. It was everything we could have wished for. The atmosphere and surroundings make you relax immediately. The food is great and the staff always friendly and helpful. The Spa is a joy. We arrived stressed and left thoroughly relaxed. We will definitely go back.

This hotel was recommended by a colleague since she enjoyed every stay so far and I could not agree more.
The first and most impressing part of this hotel are its people. It started with booking on the phone and continued with front desk that welcomes you personally from the beginning and after a couple of hours you have the impression that you are the most important person on earth for them: the entire staff really cares and most of them know you by name.
Besides: the pool and sauna areas are clean, large and well equipped and nicely decorated. Besides: if you prefer more a modern / business style of hotels (say: Hilton, LeMeridien or InterContinental), than you definetely won't like this hotel. But if you like a rustic and country style than you will love it.
The Spa-Area offers a wide range of treatments but I would definetly recommend to book treatments in advance.
During lunch and tea time drinks and small food is available for free. Same with fountain water throughout the entire building. Also: free internet in every room via cable (available from front desk; up to 20MB per day) and WLAN in the lobby.
Food is ok but nothing special and often buffet style. However, it offers every day a wide range from salad, to special diets to classic Austrian food. Wine list is dominated by Austrian wines but also offers some international treats from France and also overseas.

This is indeed not a very good place to spend your holiday time. Unfortunately I was somewhat conceited and did not look on Tripadvisor before booking.

The service is very moderate as well is the so called Wellness “bereich”. Yes it is big, but big doesn’t necessarily mean good. The pools are not well maintained (think hairs, etc on the edges) as well aren’t the rooms.

The food is in my opinion the most disappointing of them all. Tasteless and as mentioned before, only pre packed items are served. Wiener Schnitzel was greasy as hell.

Their website does not reflect reality at all. With a lot of Wellness hotels in Austria, this should not be for consideration at all. I would not recommend this place to anyone !

I had a thoroughly pleasant and enjoyable stay at this hotel and would certainly recommend it to anyone. I went to this hotel for a quiet and restful stay and achieved it.
The spa and beauty therapies were wonderful and the therapists were amazing. The rest of the staff were also very helpful, making sure I had English speaking waiters etc.
The surrounding countryside was beautiful, the village is very small and quiet, and any night life would need a drive.
The room was clean, pleasant, very comfortable and had a most wonderful view though the decor was a little dated and there was a slightly too liberal use of deoderisers in the bathroom.
The food was more along the lines of Austrian bulk (buffets etc) than haute cuisine, however I did not have one poor meal and the cheese and bread were wonderful, as was the service.
My only suggestion when booking is to ask for a room away from/not above the bar, unless you like cheesy Austrian pop. There is live music on two nights a week; both nights were supposed to finish at 11pm. Unfortunately, on the second night I had to ask 3 times for the music to be turned down and it went on until 11.30. This, however, is my only complaint and would certainly not stop me from going again. My only other suggestion is to be aware of the dreadful traffic around Munich - fly to Innsbruck.
