We stayed a total of 4 nights at this property.
We got a great price of 1500 bht a room per night with breakfast.
Opposite the beach with the Golf course ajioning. The rooms where huge, and the usual King Size beds with the best pillows (as always) for Novotel.
We ate a couple of times at the restraunt, alacart menu, very good prices. We are members of the Adavantage plus club as well which gave us an extra 30% off.
We also booked the Hotel Speed boat for snorkling around the islands for 1 day as well. Which was well organized, and comfortable.
Highly reccomnded the Hotel, great service, two pools, walking distance to out side restraunts if need be.
The front restraunt at the golf club too is part of the resort.
Internet access in rooms and in foyer. Bar area with entertainment on weekends.
Chumpon is about 4 hrs drive from Hua hin heading Sth, plenty of Isands and areas to explore snorkle etc etc.
Good value, great property

Novotel Chumphon is a very quiet hotel, just place to relax with a book. The pools are nice and the grounds wel kept.
The food is ok but more choices will be nice. Food prices not very high. Thai dinner for 2 was THB500.00
Rooms are huge, beds great, small balcony. TV chanels limited, at least the english ones.
The hotel has a free shuttle bus to Chumphon. You have to see Chumphon , it is like Thailand many years ago. Nice street food and you can hire a bike and go north to some great beaches, about 20 mins bike ride, near Cabana hotel.
The Novotel needs to invest a little more in training the staff in english, it is impossible to order room service, you have to go down to the restaurant with the menu and order for the room. I know it is Thailand and Chumphon is especially off the tourist track but a little more effort is needed with the comunications.
The SPA is great, not so much the area but the lady who was there. Very professional facial and a massage , very well priced.
Outside the hotel there are a few Thai restaurants with great, local food.
From there it is easy to take Lomprayah ferry to Koh Tao, only 5 km from the Pier and Lomprayah ferry will send a free shuttle to pick you up.
I hope this places stays open as it was almost empty when we were there. Not many people know the Chumphon area which is so nice, relaxing and typical Thai.
If you need Internet buy their 24 hours internet card much better then the 30 minutes.

Yes, it is off the beaten track (although only 10km from the ferry to Koh Tao) but it's the best place to stay in the area and worth the diversion (about 15km from town).

The pools are lovely, beautiful views of the sea and a breezy spot. There are plenty of beds around the pool and lots of sun and shade.

The rooms are comfortable & a good size with a small balcony. If you find yourself in a room with no shower curtain and the place gets flooded every time you shower, do persist and change rooms, even though it is a challenge explaining what a shower curtain is! They do have them in some rooms. The air con is noisy in every room - believe me when I say I tried to find one that was quiet.

There are 3 basic, local restaurants outside. The one immediately across the road is possibly the worst. The next one down (a few steps further to the left as you come out of the hotel) is good - seafood only & the owner speaks good English. The third is a further easy 5 minute walk along in the same direction and has the best setting, right on the beach (the other 2 are up higher at road level with a big drop down to the beach). It's a really pretty location and the food is good - seafood, pork, chicken etc. All have menus in English. That said, check out the golf club house restaurant in the hotel grounds - we didn't eat there but the prices were surprisingly good. As others have mentioned, if they have the set menu for 2 in the main hotel restaurant, go for it - the food is delicious and it's great value with very generous sized portions. Breakfast is a buffet and has most things, including non-sweet bread - wonderful!

There's also a little local shop selling basics (water, beer, snacks) just along and across from the second restaurant explained above.

The hotel has a daily shuttle bus into town that leaves the hotel at 12.30, 15.30 & 17.30 hours and returns from town at 13.00, 16.00 & 18.00. If you arrive by train you could use the shuttle to get you from town to the hotel, just email reception well in advance(!) and tell them the time of the bus you want to get. The bus only runs according to demand so you do need to let them know you plan to use it. You can get cheap internet or free wireless if you have your laptop in several bars in the town. But there's not much to see otherwise.

All in all it's a modern resort with good facilities in an otherwise underdeveloped part of Thailand. Don't go for the beach, it's not good. You can easily spend a couple of nights here if you want to make a 'passing through' stop a little more relaxing. Book direct with Accor or try Agoda.com.

Stayed there 2 Feb 2010 for two nights. Booked with asiarooms website and paid 1883 baht per night for standard double room with breakfast.
Hotel was close to empty when we were there so make sure you look for a discounted rate.
This is more the style of a US business hotel - clean, modern and well
equipped. Area around hotel is pretty poor in general. Allocated large
room facing the garden/road. Even though hotel was empty, no proposal
to upgrade to better room. Large bedroom with HUGE bed. Well equipped
and pretty modern.
As hotel was very quiet, they took individual orders for breakfast -
pretty good choice but quality of food was only average.
Great swimming pool area with seaview. Beach was very dirty and not
interesting for tourists. Restaurant in front of hotel did pretty good
Thai food. Dive center was closed down. Hotel charge 150 baht for 30
mins of Internet - suggest you cycle/walk/drive to village about 2 kms
on left of resort as the local place offers internet for 15 baht per
hour - mainly to thai girls playing games and doing their homework.
Staff were friendly enough but seemed a bit bored and demotivated.
Free use of bikes.
Would stay there again as a base for visiting Chumphon area, but don't
overpay.

Long story, but arrived after midnight, no reservation. Was elated to find the Novotel because I have stayed with them in Spain and Italy. Big disappointment.

Cheapest room was not available, had to pay for an upgrade. Room was slightly bigger than others, with useless empty space behind tv. Never saw enough people or cars to really believe the hotel was almost full. Had to pay extra for internet (200 baht for 1 hour, 500 baht for 24 hr).

24 hour room service, good. Dirty cloth lining the food tray, bad. Food, bad. Breakfast, so-so.

Mosquitos everywhere, no net. Hotel did have matches for MY mosquito coil.

Room was clean except for bathroom. Tons of mold in shower.

Sheets were good.

Main pool was large and clean. Second pool was murky.

Beach across the street was not inviting.

Would have been okay for half the baht.
