“Very interesting”
Reviewed May 29, 2014

Not expensive entrance (200 Rs per person), interesting and very informative tour of the tea factory. You get to touch and smell the tea through the production and I loved that. Lovely view at the top and tea tasting at the end of the tour. Nice selection of factory fresh teas available as souvenirs.

We got a tuktuk for 800 Rs to drive us to the factory, but he didn't have change for 1000 Rs so...you know how that goes in Sri Lanka.

“Very informative tour and excellent guide”
Reviewed May 17, 2014

Visited the place off-season, we got a private tour through the factory. Altough there was not a lot of production that day (only the roasting and sorting proces) the professional (good english and well-informed) guide gave us a great tour around the factory. Really nice tasting at the end. There is a small souvenir shop.

“Great tour by Rajha”
Reviewed May 7, 2014 via mobile

We visited here by chance and had a great experience. The tour is great, the factory is fully working and the access very different to our OH and s world! Rajha explained everything really well. The location is gorgeous and we witnessed a pretty serious rain storm. Highly recommend a trip here.

“Learn so much about tea!”
Reviewed April 29, 2014

Love the visit there. Our guide Rahja was passionate and made the experience enjoyable. You'll get to walk through the whole process of how the tea is made. Absolutely worth a visit!

“Great visit to Halpewatte Tea Factory”
Reviewed March 16, 2014

We wanted to visit a tea factory during our stay in Ella, and after reading other reviews on here decided to give Halpewatte a go. Very glad we did - would agree with other comments that the tour guide (Rajha) was excellent and it was a really interesting experience to learn all about the the process, from crop to cup. We also loved smelling the fresh tea aroma which begins you approach the factory and gets stronger as you move to the processing area! We walked there from the centre of Ella which took around an hour through lovely scenery. Didn't feel too 'touristy' either - very reasonable prices, and probably the best view you'll ever have whilst drinking a brew - the views from the top floor area are absolutely stunning.
