A satisfactory guesthouse with good views of Ella Gap. The rooms / amenities are adequate. Despite the warnings of the possibility of scalding from the heat of the shower, they are tepid at best. This place is overpriced for what is provided.
This hotel / guesthouse is very 'anti' driver / Sri Lankan. There is no driver accommodation and the owner is not interested in assisting in helping find a place for the driver to sleep. The manager was very rude to our driver (a friend used on numerous occasions to assist our holidays in SL).
As other reviews mention, the owner is a character - his heart is in the right place but some guests may not appreciate the ranting and lectures.
Very tasty banana pancakes and omelette for breakfast!

Lovely big clean rooms and bathrooms with a sit out perfect for reading. The man in charge is an interesting chap and we enjoyed talking with him. Breakfast is good but on the slow side(took an hour and a half one morning!). Staff are v friendly. Only other downside was that another hotel we stayed at in Ella had amazing views and was a third of the price (although rooms weren't as nice). Overall, great but other hotels have better views.

We planned to stay for one night at Ravana Heights, but after the first, we decided it was worth staying another night to appreciate the views and cool, clean air of the hill country!

We had a very comfortable stay, with warm hospitality from our host Jit and all the staff. The Thai dinner on offer is definitely worthwhile, as are the well balanced Sri Lankan style breakfasts. With brilliant views down Ella gap, it is also a great position to go exploring the local forests.

A lovely place for a retreat.

I stayed here with my partner for 3 nights. The views are amazing and it is very well situated for the centre of Ella. It's a 5 minute walk to the Main Street.

The bedroom and bathroom were of a good size and very comfortable. Breakfast was served facing the lovely view towards Ella Rock and provided a perfect start to the day, even if service was a little slow at times!

The view from our room was great and we had a small private terrace but as a couple staying, there was only one chair to sit on which meant we didn't really use it! WiFi was advertised as available in all rooms, but unfortunately our room was at the end of the corridor and didn't reach us; not an issue for us at all but do bear it in mind.

The whole property was very clean and the garden is clearly very well kept.

However, we found the owner, at times, quite overbearing. As other reviewers have stated, he was quite negative towards the locals often at times giving the impression he didn't really like Sri Lanka which made it slightly awkward as a guest staying there. We did listen to his advice about things to do as he is very knowledgeable of the area but found him almost forcing his opinion upon us instead of offering it to us.

The Thai food is fantastic and we did have a great stay, but thought it worthy of a mention of the owner as it can be a bit much if you're not expecting it.

A great place to stay with an amazing view, with a lovely and attentive staff, but do bear in mind above - it makes a difference if you know what to expect!

After we opened the curtains we realised that the room was very special, with the most spectacular hill views. The rooms were clean and spacious with some of the most comfortable beds we've slept in on our trip. The only drawback on this wonderful guesthouse is the owner- who is very overbearing. He also seems to like the sound of his own voice and seemed intent on offering us advice that we did not ask for - and which we later discovered was ill founded. If you can avoid the owner then this is a great place to stay!

We stayed at Ravana Heights for only 1 night but had a very enjoyable stay. We were put into one of the brand new rooms, which is going to be the family room. The room was large, modern and clean but did have a few problems as it's not quiet finished yet, but I feel the owner will soon rectify all these concerns and the room will be fully finished to a high standard very soon.
The service we received was wonderful, all staff were very helpful and the owner was very informative.
Breakfast the next morning was served on the balcony looking out to the amazing views and was lovely, freshly cooked pancakes & omelettes, fruit, toast with jam and tea & coffee. We chose to eat in town in the night as we were meeting some friends but the owner did offer to cook an evening meal for us for $15.
Location is just outside the main town of Ella but an easy walk into town, only about 5 minutes, but make sure you have a torch if your walking at night because the road is very dark.
The train station is a short tuk tuk ride away if you are catching the train at all, and the owner will happily organise one for you if need be.
Overall Ravana Heights is a unique place to stay, somewhere small, very friendly and the owner is a real character but a very knowledgeable man with a lot of enthusiasm. I would be happy to recommend it to all travellers visiting Ella.
Thank you for a pleasant stay.

Room Tip: Try and book one of the new rooms.

We reached Ravana Heights late afternoon and had a very pleasant welcome from Vasanthi, who always has a smile on her face and is very accommodating. All staff were very polite and made us feel at home. The manager is a very enthusiastic and interesting personality, who despite his idiosyncrasies is extremely helpful and informative on the best nature walks, the history of the country and anything else you would like to know!

The location is perfect- the only noise is that from the occasional vehicle passing. It is otherwise a very restful atmosphere. It is also only a few minutes away from the Ella town which has lots of restaurants on the roadside.
I believe all 3 rooms overlook the beautiful view of the Ella gap- we couldn't get enough of it! Our room was a family room, which is brand new and was very comfortable and spacious, with hot water and wifi. Although there was no air conditioning, it really wasn't necessary. There is a little porch overlooking the stunning views outside every room to sit and read.

The food is great- we have never had meals quite like that ( a fusion of sri lankan and thai food for dinner, and breakfast was fruit and an omelette and bread). Lunch is not provided, but can be taken in the town.

The great thing about Ravana Heights is that it is a small family-run business, which is why we felt at home and got a very personalised service. Recommended for families, couples and anyone in need of a little TLC!

Room Tip: Call up and speak to the owner- he will help you out with getting the best room for you
