“In one word....wonderfull!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 29, 2013

Ravanna Heights is a wonderfull place, and especially takes dining to new unexpected heights.
The owner of the place is an interesting and very present man...but while I am usually a very private person I quite enjoyed him telling us about his interesting life...
He knows a lot about trekking and many other important things(money and power and love...etc etc)
The rooms are lovely the views amazing and the garden is very pretty, but THE FOOD, THE FOOD....have dinner here, the lovely and amazing cook will have you eating your food in utter silence because you don't want to miss a bite, the surprising mix of Thai and Sri Lankan food will have you watching the clock all day, waiting for dinner time!!! P.s to work up an appetite go trekking...

There have been some ( I believe unjustified) comments about the owner. He does like to chat and many may see him as eccentric, this simply adds to charm of the place. He is fastidious about customer service (especially food served) and breakfasts are especially fresh and filling. Fresh fruit, pancakes and omlette. I have a particular dietry requirement and they changed my breakfast immediately to accomodate me. The rooms and spotless and akin to a hotel room with fridge and flat screen TV's that were being fitted as we left (not that you will be watching them!). The views across to Adams Peak from this Guest House are simply breathtaking and the finest backdrop to breakfast I have ever had. The gardens are beautifully maintained and are a pleasure to sit in. Ella is a 5 to 10 minute walk away (uphill on the way out) and taking a torch at night is a good idea. There are no street lights. It would be madness to visit Ella and not stay here. Having spent three days walking around Ella (there is not much there), I saw nothing that would compete with Ravana Heights and the price charged.

We spent 2 nights here. We found this property overpriced. The room was tiled throughout, a little noisy, no air con just a fan, no TV, but it did have free wifi. Also we were told by the owner wait 10 minutes after one shower for the water to warm up again. My wife gave it 40 minutes for good measure before taking a cold shower.

The standard room we booked was clean but very basic, with the furniture all scratched up and a desk lamp that had a cord too short to plug in and no light bulb so I assume that was for decoration only. The website describes this as a resort, I would have to say it is a guest house that puts on evening meals if advance warning is given.

We had the evening meal which was quite expensive but I have to say the food was great. Breakfast took a while to get through but also was good quality. The views are the best thing about this place. You get a great view of Ella rock from your room or your table at breakfast. I have seen plenty written about the owner on other reviews. There does seem to be an issue with drivers taking people elsewhere because there is no driver accommodation provided, all I can advise is if your driver tells you there is no room, phone the hotel directly to confirm. The owner sent us a very long email before we arrived about this, he is prone to ranting about a number of topics and talking about himself. The rest of the staff are very friendly and helpful, service was good overall.

Well, I had a miserable first day in Ella when I stayed in "Mountain Heaven", Had stomach problem because of the food & checked out the very next day in search of a better place & ended up in Ravana Heights. The mountain view was too good and the people were friendly and took good care of us. The rooms were simple, but convenient. I visited around 6 guest houses in Ella & found this the best of all! .The owner is is little talkative, but a very good person who wants to take good care of their guests! The cook is a lady who was earlier a farmer, cooks awesome Thai food for dinner & western breakfast menu - though I was not well due to vomiting & stomach upset, I was still tempted to taste the food! Best Hotel in Ella for Mid range stay ($66/day on B&B)..Homely feeling :)

Room Tip: 3 rooms to choose from, all are almost alike :)

This is a lovely place to stay with stunning views to wake up to. Staff very attentive and rooms well presented and very clean. Currently updating some of older rooms and also adding new rooms. Short walk from town centre. Wouldn't hesitate in staying here again

Ravana Heights is very well situated to Ella. It is on the high side of Wellaweya Road, and has a beautiful outlook of the mountains and valleys. This view is particularly lovely at breakfast, as the tables are set up outside on the patio, where guests can sit and drink in the countryside. The rooms were very spacious and clean. The bathroom in particular is quite large. Jit, our host, is a fountain of knowledge. He is well worth tapping into to discover where all the good walks and great views are located. He was particularly helpful in negotiating a price with the tuk-tuk we hired for a few hours, to take us off the beaten track. Jit uses a very reliable tuk-tuk service, so we would recommend that if you wish to go on a trip using this mode of transport, speak to Jit first, and he can help you with driver and itinerary. The hotel is very well situated for the walk to Little Adam's Peak, and is also a leisurely stroll (approximately 10 minutes) into the vibrant township of Ella, which has quite a few nice eateries and bars (especially in the evenings). We would recommend that travellers consider eating at the hotel. For a very reasonable price of $15 US for a large meal, or $9 US (minus dessert) for a smaller evening meal, the kitchen staff will produce a wonderful Sri Lankan fare that is delicious. The main eating room is inside. This is a large and airy room. At night it is transformed into an intimate dining area, with the help of softly lit table lamps and music delicately playing in the background. The staff members are all lovely and will work with you to make your stay a happy one. This is a lovely, clean hotel - and Jit is a welcoming host with a wonderful sense of humour.

Genuinely stunning views and the food here is actually fantastic (don’t be put off by the owner’s big sell, it is as good as he says). The owner is a, ahem, character and comes out with some pretty unusual and testing comments; he can be a bit too much. He is very prejudiced against other Sri Lankans and Sri Lanka generally, which can make things a little uncomfortable.
