Arrived late after travelling. Staff were really lovely and dinner was super Thai cooking. Room was very nice and didn't need air conditioning as the region is fairly cool due to the mountainous area. Superb views from the balcony and breakfast area next day. Owner is a little eccentric and wanted to talk about many subjects all at once - but this added to the memories of the place. Not a criticism of the hotel, but both of us were a little unwell the next morning. Could have been a coincidence - we hoped so as the dinner was really nice the night before.

Our stay at the Ravana Heights far exceeded our expectations. Originally planned to stay for only two nights but actually ended up cutting a trip to Arugam Bay short so we could return here for a night before we left Sri Lanka.

The rooms are simply furnished and immaculately clean but the definite highlight has to be the view from the small terrace area outside every room and from the communal patio area. We spent a lot of time drinking tea on the patio and taking in the view even though it rained for most of the afternoons we spent here ( we came during rainy season!), it was still perfect for us.

The staff are all very attentive providing what would be considered in hotel terms a five star service but without the awkward formality of staying in one. Delicious breakfast served on the patio area and then finishing every day with an incredible Thai Sri Lankan fusion dinner. Some of the best food we've ever eaten and the owner was very helpful in explaining all the dishes.

Activities wise we decided to take up the offer of a guided walk on two of the days spent here. Highly recommended as the guide took us up to Ella rock via some different view points to what most guide books advise. Then the final walk was a 6 hour delight across the tops of all the hills and tea plantations. I don't think you'd stand a chance of finding your way around the route without the help of a guide.

Overall, we came away wishing we could stay longer which is how it should always be! We felt very at home here and the owner was very friendly and we had lots of interesting chats with him. He went out of our way to help us, serving dinner early on the last day as we had to catch the sleeper train home to Colombo and contacting the train station in Badulla to see if the train was late ( it was - almost 2 hours) so we could wait at the house rather than the station. Hope we get a chance to go back when the three extension rooms on the floor above are open. They were almost finished and already looked incredible!

We enjoyed every bit of our time here. The views are spectacular. It is a small hotel but the staff are wonderful and make you feel very welcome. Breakfast was good and the dinner was brilliant. Rooms are a good size and very clean. We would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting this area.

We stayed for two nights in Jan 13 as a couple. We booked last min and had to go through the faff of paying a deposit into a bank account in kandy before he would accept the booking, which we felt was slightly unreasonable, but we agreed. We were glad we did, as it is a lovely and well kept place, the location is superb, with views overlooking Ella Gap and the food is AMAZING. The chef - a local lady who used to be a farmer - is delightful and does a mix of thai and sri lankan cooking which is delicious. She whipped us up some mushroom pancakes when we arrived tired and hungry for which we were very grateful. The owner is quite an overpowering man who does not stop talking, but if you take this with a pinch of salt, it shouldnt ruin what could be a lovely stay.

We stayed here for four nights in a comfortable, well appointed, very clean room with a good sized bathroom and a lovely view of Ella Rock from our bed. Excellent breakfast was served on an outside terrace with a great view of Ella Gap and Ella Rock. There was a good choice of Sri Lankan or Western breakfast. The room had a small balcony with good views,
Evening meals were good...a bit expensive at $15 US each, but we preferred the good Sri Lankan food in town.
There is a lovely common sitting area and balcony where you can relax and enjoy the gorgeous views. Staff are very professional and want to make sure you enjoy your stay in Ella. Food and beverages are available all day.
The guesthouse is only a five minute walk from the centre of Ella. It is unusual to find a place with such great views so close to the centre.
Three new rooms will be ready soon to make a total of six. The new rooms will be much bigger and two will have huge glass walls with splendid panoramic views of Ella Rock and Ella Gap. They will be fantastic...whatever the price.
At $90 US I felt the three older rooms were a bit expensive, but the standard of furnishings and the general level of facilities and exclusivity perhaps justify this. There are few bargains in Ella and it is very close to the centre yet very quiet.

Room Tip: The two new upstairs rooms will be fantastic. Go for them.

We stayed here for 2 nights in January. The owner makes a point of making you feel very welcome in his lovely home. It was a more expensive stay than many of the other local places [possibly was abit too high] but we decided that with the weather being more unpredictable in Ella and all the walking we were planning [!!], comfort was a priority. We weren’t disappointed.
The building is impressively designed and really tastefully decorated and of course has arguably the most stunning views in Ella. Location-wise, we found it really handy as you could wander straight out of the hotel to all the key places of interest without needing a guide, driver or tuk tuks [there are plenty of tuk tuks around though if wanted]. The main street is 5mins walk up the hill, the train station a further 5/10mins max. If you wander in a different direction you can visit a local tea plantation, a lovely waterfall, little Adams Peak or the owner can arrange a guide to take you walking up Ella Rock [which other guests highly recommended and we definitely would have done if we had had more time].
The dinner was Thai/SL, was delightful and very generous and served with a lovely smile.
