Spent 3 nights (couple + 2 teenagers) in a family room without A/C, at the end of a 3-weeks tour of Sri Lanka. A/C is not required in Ella in August.

The place is run according to western standards, probably at the expense of some sense of exoticism, but having sufficient hot water in a bathroom of the kind we are used to, was a nice change from the other places we stayed at in Sri Lanka.

We ate dinner at Zion view once and had a very good rice and curry, which we found more made to the taste of westerners than authentic sri lankan. We also had breakfast on the terrace one morning, and it was great.

Manager/owner was not always present, but his substitute was doing a great job.

We stayed here for 3 nights in September and loved it. Sena the owner is very professional and helpful. The rooms are great with really good showers. However the stars of the show are the views from the balcony and as already reported the food. It's fantastic! It was the best we ate in 3 weeks in Sri Lanka and we ate well whilst there. My only regret is not getting the recipe for the pumpkin curry!

We recently spent two wonderful nights here, and it was a highlight of our trip to Sri Lanka. We had one of their enormous family rooms, which had two queen size beds and a single, and some open plan shelving just to put things on, such as water bottles, hats, and all those little things that I normally tend to lose on the floor or in my luggage. The view from the room is as good as everyone here has said, it is postcard perfect.

The Sri Lankan buffet they prepared every night was fabulous. A range of vegie curries and an optional meat one. Possibly the best food I ate in Sri Lanka. I also really appreciated that they cooked (a Western meal with nutritious food and no fries) for our children at 6:30, as the buffet wasn't ready until 7:30 or so, which is far too late for them. So we all got to eat really well!

The owner manager was lovely, and showed us around the extension that is currently underway. The new cafe space will have even better views - if that is possible.

This was a great place to stay, friendly staff, clean rooms, comfy beds, I could go on. Highly recommend it, and Ella itself is a lovely spot, so it's a winning combination.

Hard to put in words what a remarkable experience it was to wake up at the crack of dawn, step out on to the balcony and see the sky turn orange through the magnificent Ella Gap. Perched right on the edge of the mountain, this beautiful place was an excellent base for exploring the stunning tea countryside. The owner Sena is extremely helpful and welcoming. The rooms are simple and clean, with a hammock in the balcony on which you can get mesmerized by the views. Dinner and breakfast were brilliant, some of the best we had in Sri Lanka. Laundry was included and wifi was free. The guest house is located up a narrow steep road (take a tuk tuk from the center of town) but the walk down is a breezy five minute jaunt. A few restaurants in the center of town along with a fun bar or two (we liked the laid-back Nescoffee bar). A few meters down from Zion View is another excellent restaurant called Rawana - call them and make a reservation for dinner: incredible food. There's plenty to do in this area. You can do an excellent 2 km walk up to Little Adam's peak through tea plantations (time it for sunset and take a torch for the walk back). Or you can catch the slow train to Haputale early in the morning and make your way up to Lipton's seat (try to get there before the 10am fog). If you're coming to Sri Lanka, don't miss this lovely area!

I stayed in Zion View for two days out of my 9 days trip in Sri Lanka... I must confess that these two days were the highlight of my trip... The hotel overlooks an amazing view... I just couldnt get over how great that view was... The hammock on the balcony is the icing on the cake.... Ella is a place to relax and unwind, and Zion View is the place for that exactly.... The manager goes out of his way to provide with a great experience, he knows what he is doing and he does it pretty well... Rooms are very clean and elegant, food is the best I had in all of Sri Lanka... The price is affordable and great value...

We stayed at Zion lodge for two nights, arriving after a long car and train journey from Kandy. By the time we arrived it was dark so it wasn't until morning that we could appreciate the amazing view over the Ella gap.

Our room had a seating area outside with a hammock, sun lounger and two chairs. It is a great place to relax and just take in the view. The food is also really good. They do dinner every evening at 7.30pm which consists of a vegetarian buffet and then they bring the meat to the table. In particular the pumpkin curry is amazing. I think the buffet, including meat, was around 950rupees each.

The only improvement that could be made was having more than one plug socket in the bedroom. There is another in the bathroom but I didn't want to risk my phone falling into the sink. Also it is worth noting that this place is up a quite steep path/road meaning itwasn't the easiest place for our guide to drive the car to, when we left he arranged for a tuk tuk to bring us down. The walk is definitely worth it though, I would definitely recommend this place.

I stayed at the Zion View with a friend for 3-nights. We had heard this place was very nice from several other travelers and decided to book here. First, the rooms are very clean and the beds are comfortable with over-hanging mosquito nets (which we did not need). The bathroom was spotless and the piping hot shower were great. Open the doors of your room and sleep in the hammock and or enjoy some tea from your patio table over looking the beautiful Ella Gap with Ella Rock to your right and Little Adam's Peak to your left.
Lets talk about food now. The breakfast is very good with coffee/tea, eggs and toast, fruit shakes, and fruit salad. Dinner here is delicious and some of the best authentic Sri Lankan food I have tasted in 2-month traveling experience here.
The owner, Sena, is a very friendly knowledgable person who really goes out of his way to ensure his guests have everything they need and answers all questions thoroughly for questions about Ella or the hill country in general.
I would most definitely come back here in the future. Such a great experience at the Zion.
PS: Free laundry and WiFi is a big bonus here!

Room Tip: All the rooms offer stunning view and likely you cannot go wrong. If your closer to the restaurant t...
