We really enjoyed our one night stay. We had a 4 year old child in our group who loved being in the tree's. Unfortunately we didn't get a visit from the monkeys. The owner is extremely accommodating and arranged all of our transport cheaper than we were quoted by going direct to the drivers. He even arranged for us to share a taxi with other guests to Udawalawe so we could split the cost. Breakfast was a slice of watermelon, coconut pancakes , tea/coffee with powdered milk and no cold drinks. You can only pay your bill in cash. Town is a very short tuk tuk ride away, we had a lovely evening on the top floor of Chill Restaurant Bar.
Unfortunately we can not confirm the so far outstanding reviews. The location is not as remote as expected...due to the short distance to a very big street you do hear traffic noise all night rather than the jungle.
We did spend two nights in one of the cabanas, which is a nicely designed little wooden bungalow, but unfortunately very small (no space at all to deposit any luggage) and not 100% clean with an uncomfortable bed.
Nevertheless, the Sri Lankan breakfast is very nice and the owner helpful! For half the price, it would have been okay...but compared to other places we have stayed in Sri Lanka and based on the description and pictures we just expected something else.
But we had a chance to see the bigger treehouse and that looks very nice!
Great balcony and view of Ella from the bungalow. The room was clean and services worked fine (couldn’t get the tv to work and hot water is limited). Monkeys playing in the surrounding trees and the hammock was a nice touch.
The walk to Ella rock from this location was fantastic.
Service here is very limited. From arrival we were shown to our room with very limited communication. This was fine. During breakfast we asked 2 times if it was included (booked with TripAdvisor) and was told yes. Breakfast was okay, however came out with ants in it.
We were then told afterwards that the breakfast wasn’t included as we did not book with booking.com. The expectation on departure was that we needed to pay for the ant infested breakfast. These rooms are not cheap and for the price I would expect much better service. The experience felt like we were at a backpackers. Quite disappointed.
So far this has been one of the most beautiful places I have ever been! The sweet French-Sri Lankan couple warmly welcomed me and my boyfriend in their beautiful tree house and after two lovely nights it felt already like home. They helped us with everything and made our stay in Ella very fun. If we ever come back to Sri Lanka we hope to see you again!
Beautiful place to stay in Ella with gorgeous view over the valley. The staff are super nice and couldn’t be more helpful! Great Sri Lankan breakfast. Would highly recommend staying here.
Tucked away a few kms down the hill from Ella, this room in-the-trees, run by an incredibly friendly French-Sri Lankan couple, is great fun.
Don't expect five star luxury - it's a cut your own fresh fruit rather than packaged peanuts from the minibar kind of place - but do enjoy the (curtain free) view of the morning sun filling the Ella valley.
(If that all sounds a bit Lonely Planet, my apologies... being more blunt, the shower was a bit rubbish, going hot and cold, and our mossie net was a bit of an open door policy, due to the number of rips and holes... which, to be fair, the owners replaced immediately).
The owner's brother guided us on a morning walk to Ella Rock (2,500 rp). Some reviews suggest a guide isn't necessary, and they are probably right ... but our guide added value on route and meant we could enjoy the view rather than study the map. Highly recommend this as a morning adventure and the treehouse for something a bit different.
I stayed here for one night with a friend. It was my friend's birthday gift to me, and it really was a wonderful gift! The treehouse is amazing! It has that authentic treehouse feel, but with the benefit of working plumbing and electricity. It's clean and adorably decorated. The location feels remote enough that you have quiet and are amidst nature, but it is just a quick bus ride (under 5 min) to the center of Ella town. The owners were very friendly and welcoming, and they arranged for a guide for me to hike to Ella's Rock.
