For euro20/night in September, it is an absolute bargain! The double room we booked was spacious, had comfortable beds and an efficient a/c, very much required for sunny months. There was a safe as well as a minibar in the room. The shower area was ample and toilet area had a bidet hose, a much appreciated amenity. Rooms are cleaned daily and were always ready by the time we got back from each day's adventure. There were several power outages during the day while we were there but the hotel's generator quickly kicked in, so no problem..

Each floor was equipped with a purified water dispenser, which is a thoughtful touch for guests. Likewise, 2 complimentary bottles of water was provided for our room. Since the hotel is not carpeted, and instead uses ceramic tiles for flooring, you can expect some sound carrying into rooms from the corridors... could be a problem for light sleepers.

The hotel itself is in the city centre, walking distance to the bay walk (which is abuzz even on Sunday evenings). Also walking distance from many restaurants along the corniche, including the famous Sans Rival restaurant, selling its namesake pastry and sylvannas, which are popular gifts to take back from Dumaguete. The front desk staff is friendly, arranges tours and can give recommendations for activities. However, If you're any good at haggling, try to strike a bargain with tricycle (local motorized coach) drivers to take you around the city or to the jump off point for Apo island. That way, you can stop wherever you see anything interesting worth a photo..

The hotel is relatively new and everything is kept clean and working. However, I noticed toilet fixtures were not the type that would last for years so it will be interesting to see how the hotel fares in the coming years.

Excellent value hotel. Go and book it soon.

In terms of rooms, amenities, location and service, I would say the hotel is average. However, considering the extremely low price we paid, this hotel is definitely one of the best value for money places I've seen in a while.

ROOMS - average size but clean and well maintained. I like the fact that they didn't have the usual two complimentary bottles of water, but instead had a hot/cold water dispenser out in the hallway. I find this more environmentally friendly (no wasted plastic bottles!), plus hotel patrons can get as much free potable water as they like.

There is the quirky thing about their bathrooms having a glass panel wall that opens up to the bedroom. Although there is a curtain that covers the glass panel, you could still see the silhouette of the person showering. This was fine by me since I was traveling with my wife, but it did kind of weird out the two male friends we had who shared a room next door.

FOOD - We were only able to try their complimentary breakfast food (plated), which was pretty good.

SERVICE - Excellent

LOCATION - Not as good as other hotels that are along the boulevard (Bethel, for example). Essencia is 3 blocks away from Rizal Boulevard (5-10 minute walk), but at the same time is right at the heart of downtown Dumaguete.

VALUE FOR MONEY - We paid PHP1,500 (35$) per night, which was very affordable considering everything.

i stayed in the family room for 10 days (relatives stayed the suite and standard room) and the staff made me feel at home ... the friendly staff are the stars of the hotel ... always smiling and pleasant ... the room i stayed in was very comfortable ... i personally do not like the glass "wall" of the shower though - i felt it cheapened the very nice room ... wifi connection is not great and needs to be addressed ... the hotel restaurant need to train the staff and lacked experience in dealing with a busy meal service ... great location too ... I HOPE THE HOTEL MAINTAINS THE STANDARD OF CLEANLINESS, FRIENDLINESS AND EFFICIENCY I EXPERIENCED ... WOULD DEFINITELY STAY AGAIN

Overall: We had a pleasant stay in this hotel. For improvement though are its wifi connection, daily toiletries replenishment and it doesn't have a pool.

Location: Very good. It is within the city proper. You are only a walk away from the nearest supermarket (Lee Super Plaza or Robinsons), Rizal Boulevard, restaurants, and jogging paths (e.g., provincial sports center).

Rooms: We got standard deluxe rooms. Rooms are cleaned and organized. The comfort room has a glass wall on one side (there are blinds though). Other amenities in the rooms are a mini-ref, phone, flat screen TV, and a bedside table.

Services: Staff are friendly and accommodating. They also offer airport pick-up. They don't own a restaurant, so the food is still ordered from a tenant in the hotel. WIFI routers are located in every floow. WIFI connection is sometimes unreliable, but you may ask for your own private WIFI connection/router. My toiletries are not daily replenished though (I collect them and give them away every time I go home).

Price: Very good price. You get a good room with good service for a low price of 1500 and above.

Room Tip: The only difference between Standard and Deluxe Standard rooms are their location only. Standard roo...

Hotel is just walking distance from boulevard. they had a soft opening promo of only php1200 for the standard room so we decided to stay here. We were almost impressed coz the room is at parr to a 5 star hotel but was really surprised when we saw the bathroom wall facing the beds was made of glass!! Yes there were blinds but its not wide enough to cover it so if youre taking a shower your companion will be able to see a piece of your butt.i mean did they anticipate that everyone who stays here are just couples or lovers that its ok to see a piece of your flesh while youre doing your thing in the bathroom??? Lol! A friendly advice make sure to turn off the lights inside the bathroom and the light outside will still be enough to make sure you wont bump your head to the toilet bowl.lol!

I made an early check-in at around 11am. Fast and Easy. Staff were very accomodating, helpful and friendly. Stayed for 1 night at a Standard room with window city view. Clean bathroom (glass see-through from the bedroom), affordable laundry service, has a massage SPA near reception area, open until 12midnight with 11pm cut-off time. Room service is fast. Has restaurant at the lobby that serves chinese food, savored to my favorite, "hakaw."

Strong Wi-fi connection, room has small ref with complete line of drinks - softdrinks and beer.

Ample parking at the basement. Location is near city proper, very convenient if you plan to make a tour like Silliman University and buy souvenirs at Handumagnan.

Room Tip: Check the given room first if A/C functions well.
