This was our last stop after a fabulous series of safaris in four locations across Kenya and Tanzania. This is the place you go to unwind, relax, and recover from many days and hours on safaris. The place is simply out of this world. It is safe, secure, the food is fantastic, and the service is friendly and genuine. Though we didn't feel comfortable swimming because the beach has a fair bit of seaweed, the suites have plunge pools and the resort itself has a large pool. If you do go for a walk on the beach, go left when you get to the beach and just off the resort property there are two shacks. Check them out! They have some great local artwork and crafts. We purchased several items after some tough negotiation and are now the proud owners of 2 oil paintings which will forever remind us of our African vacation. As a final tip, be ready for a load of nonsense once you hit the airport. The airport do not make announcements (that you can hear) and there is massive confusion about whether or not the next plane to Dar es Salaam is yours. And good luck if you try and ask the airport staff anything as they are quite rude and unhelpful. And get ready for this....the staff at the Dar es Salaam airport are much worse!
But don't let this dissuade you from staying at this resort. It was truly a wonderful experience!

Having previously stayed at the Kempinski and watched its standards drop over a period of 2 years I was reluctant to return to Baraza for fear of falling standards. Luckily my partner insisted we return for us to have a short break and i'm so glad he did... The food and quality of service were excellent and the spa treatments were some of the best I've had (and i'm a frequent traveler in Europe, Asia and the USA) indeed I was surprised to have this experience in such a remote location. The villa was once again fabulous, spacious and cleaned to operating theatre standards every day. The staff were friendly and attentive without being overbearing or intrusive. As a surprise, they arranged a romantic beach lunch for my partner and I with a customized menu that we both enjoyed. As two professionals that spend most of our time working this was the perfect break! We look forward to returning again. Miller/Holt

The hotel comes close or even exceeds what can be expected there. The hotels` architecture is amazing and perfectly combines influences from the Arabic, Indian, and Suaheli world. The photographs on their homepage are nice, but the reality is even more impressive.

The whole team is dedicated to one mission: namely to make the guests stay as pleasant as possible. Sometimes, there a magic moments: you start to think about a nice drink and suddenly you were offered a cold, fresh, and delicious fruit juice! The people are extremely friendly and passioned about your well-being.

The restaurants are also gorgeous and both, the 5 to 6 course menu and the buffet offer a fine selection of local and international cuisine. We finished every day of our one-week stay in the terrific lounge bar.

The beach scenerie offers a beautiful panorama that one knows from a good poster shooting: white sand, cocos palms, and blue sky. The water is as warm as in your bathtub. If swimming in the sea is limited due to the tides the alternative is a magnificent pool landscape.

Colorful flowers (Bougainville and Frangipani) are inviting you to walk through the garden and to enjoy their beauty and flavor.

And should all of this not be enough for recreation there is even more: the Frangipani Spa does not miss any opportunity to immerse oneself in the world of wellness. The quality and the atmosphere there are really outstanding.

Barazas is one of the most amazing hotels in the world. With a staff of 210 and a maximum guest capacity of around 80 people, you will be pampered. March is low season and there were only 30 guests or so. The staff is incredibly friendly, service oriented, creative, thoughtful, and genuine. The diving center next door is fantastic and made life easy for both the experienced and beginner divers in our group of ten people. The staff of the hotel bent over backwards to create a fun atmosphere, hosting different events daily, building an entire barbecue lunch venue on the beach. Popular with honeymooners, this hotel was great for our two families of five. We relaxed, enjoyed fantastic food, the great spa, the diving, and 30 degree ocean. Getting there is a bit of a hike, but it's worth it.

we just came back from a trip to tanzania. 8 days of safari and then 5 days in zanzibar. we stayed at BARAZA in Zanzibar. I picked it based on the reviews here and i have to say, it was amazing. we were two families with 3 kids each: 9, 13 and 15 years of age. We all loved it. The service, the friendliness, the food, the pool, the beach. We all got scuba certified and I believe the water was 87 degrees! There were 29 guests at this time and a staff of 200 plus. dont stay anywhere else!
