general :
Pleasant hotel , beautifully located. Due to the size of the domain ( 15ha ) you never feel in a crowded hotel The rooms(124) are located in some 10 pavilions with 2 floors in the tropical garden . The grounds are very clean. Nice pool with sea view. The jetty in the sea have a nice bar and tapas restaurant with amazing view.

rooms :
The rooms are comfortably furnished, spacious bathroom with two showers ( one outside ), separate toilet and freestanding bad. Almost every room have sea view and a terrace or balcony with two seats . The airco is noisy but working well.
cuisine:
The food is really tasty, daily different themed buffet . Breakfast is good no more .
You can have lunch by the pool or at the beach club with a lot of choice „à la carte”.

Beach Club:
This is the greatest asset of the hotel , beautiful setting, 1km from the hotel via walkway, there are golf cart rides every 15min. A lot of palmtrees and lounge chairs with thick cushions.
The food is very tasty, drinks also. Very soft sand.

staff:
Very friendly.

gardens :
Very spacious , with tropical vegetation . The grass could perhaps be better maintained.

All in all a very good hotel for a perfect holiday and value for money!!
All the gast come from Europe, mainly Germans, France, Spainians, Italians and Belgians.
The all in is a very good choice, outside the hotel their is nothing!!

Room Tip: almost every room have sea view, even the garden view rooms!!!

Visited with husband and one year old daughter stayed for 8 nights. Room was lovely, bed very comfortable and bathroom lovely. One sink did leak a bit but this was not an issue and we didn't report it. Lovely to have the choice of an outdoor shower and rooms always cleaned well. Good choice of restaurants, I particularly enjoyed Aqua and the Jetty, the latter being a lovely setting for cocktails/nibbles too. Beach lovely, sea very warm and even when the out can still explore rock pools. Service was very good, particularly Sulieman who we first met in Aqua, and all the staff were lovely to out little girl. Only complaint was that airport pick up was late, it seemed that in fact the lady who we had asked to book it hadn't actually done so despite us asking for confirmation three times. However the guy on the desk when we checked out did his best to sort it out as quickly as possible given it was the middle of the night. Overall had a fantastic time and would thoroughly recommend a short or longer stay here.

Melia Zanzibar could be a great five star resort except for its dinning experience. The cuisine is unremarkable compared to what you can find at close by restaurants if you have a good native taxi driver. I was fortunate to have a taxi driver for the ten days we spent in Zanzibar who recommended we try other dinning venues. He was spot on with his recommendations. On the first night out the table behind us was occupied by the General Manager of Melia and some of his colleagues.
Mella has an excellent Spa which we experienced 3 times during our stay. Every time was a real treat.
Melia beach was not suitable for swimming until 3 in the afternoon because of the tide. We had to incur the cost of going to other beaches to enjoy the worm waters of the the Indian Ocean in the morning.
The staff of the resort is the best, friendly, helpful and always smiling.

Room Tip: A room with the Ocean View is a must

We stayed in one of the ocean view villas. What an amazing experience. Waking up every morning was like a dream. The scenery is simply mind blowing. Even better than the photos you see online.
The food at Melia is excellent. Everyday they had different theme for the buffet. Also had a choice of eating at a fancy restaurant called Aqua or a casual romantic dinner at the jetty. All choices equally awesome!
I would go back in a heart beat. Definitely a dream destination for honeymooners. It's just so romantic. Everyone there is super friendly and extremely welcoming. Never a dull face :)
I highly recommend this place, I promise you will not regret it!

We spent 4 nights at Melia in January on the all-inclusive package. Our initial impression of the hotel was not great as the entrance leaves a lot to be desired. The hotel is very old with sections of it revamped with modern fittings. Our rooms surpassed our expectations as they were huge with lovely bathrooms including an outside shower. The pool area could be improved upon in terms of appearance and there is a sewage smell at the one side of the pool near the table tennis which is not great. The food at this hotel is amazing, they have a themed evening every night at dinner where the chefs go all out, and the croissants at the breakfast are delicious. We must also compliment the staff as they are extremely attentive and management’s presence was always visible. The one thing that did seem a bit strange to us was to have the staff eating meals in the main dining area with the guests… All in all, great rooms and food with good service.

Stayed for 8 days in the hotel through the VIP Selection of Jetair. Checking in was a bit of a hassle as it took them over one hour to allocate a room. From that point onwards, everything went smoothly. There aren't any negative points to be found that might spoil your stay in the hotel, unless you get fussy about the details. Upgrading from the all inclusive to the premium level is not really worth it. Just a pity that the mini bar isn't filled up regularly. On the other hand, lunch and dinner are really fantastic, certainly the best food I ever experienced during my travels in Africa.

Tip: if you are planning to book some tours and travel around Zanzibar, bring some US Dollars cash from home. The nearest ATM is located in Stone Town, an hour drive away and the hotel will charge you a hefty 10% commission if you want to collect money with your credit card.

I definitely recommend this hotel. Would I go back? No, but the only reason is that the percentage of guests from the former communist republics is just too high for my taste.

Room Tip: Block 15 is a 2 minutes walk from the reception and the restaurant and 20 meters away from a pick-up...
