We stayed for 7 nights here... for my sons wedding ... the hotel was a super venue for the wedding... and the hotel staff were excellent....they were married on the volleyball court which had been trasformed into the Wedding venue for the afternoon and evening... Masai Warriors provided the guard of honour...,,
The hotel restaurant is superb with an excellent selection for all of the main meals... we stayed all inclusive... but were disappointed that there were no snacks available in between meals...and drinks stopped being served at 11pm...not a vast selection.. My daughter and her 2 toddlers were also part of the wedding party and the hotel staff went out of their way to make the stay enjoyable for them.
Traders on the beach can be a bit of a nuisance and the Masai Warriors did move them on ..but you cant go and lay on the beach without being disturbed...The tide goes out for miles and the shallow waters are very warm and ideal for rock pools ..the starfish are amazing...

Arriving from a Safari in Tanzania we stop for 4 days to rest in this resort. That was an amazing choice... Thanks to our tour operator in Italy, this pretty heaven on the beach is quiet, simple but it provides you the perfect pace to enjoy your time. The food is of the best experience we've ever had in our several vacations. And the weather helped a lot. Don't share too much time with the boys on the beach, they are a little boring and make you nervous... But anyway the sultan sands is away from the noisy crowdy resorts that are long this beautiful beach. You will love it!

Room Tip: We feel that the rooms on the garden are very quiet and very clean.

From the moment we arrived we were made welcome - I do not think I have ever come across such genuinely friendly and smiling hotel staff and contrary to some reviews nothing was too much trouble and everyone did their best for you.

The food was execellent withifferent themes each evening, and there was always wonderful fresh fish and once a week a fantastic seafood buffet on the beach by the pool.

Entertainment during the day consisted of such events as beach volleyball, beach football (with Masai's on the teams as well as those guests who wanted to join in. There was also guided walks to the village and local caves, water aerobics, Swahili lessons and a cookery class was also intoduced while we were there, which was a suggestion of a guest. We were impresed that the management listened to such suggestions and took them on board.

Each evening there were different forms of entertainment during dinner.

A special thanks to Frank and Angel in the bar and also Mohmmed, Salma and Margaret in the restaurant, although all the staff were great but there are too many to mention. Also a thank you Mr. David and to all who made our last evening so special with the surprise dinner, we will always remember it.

Room Tip: Rooms below 329 as after that they will be up te hill.

The holiday was organised by Virgin Holidays, it was a brilliant holiday, everything was organised by Virgin and the most amazing rep. "Musa". The rep could not do enough for you and nothing was to much trouble.
Sultan Sands is part of Blue Bay was amazing with food to die for, every night was a different theme, the accommodation was brilliant, with everything you needed.
The trips we did with Musa were informing, and fun, he explained everything you wanted to know about the island.
Thanks to Virgin and Sultan Sands.

We arrived home yesterday after the most wonderful 10 night stay at Sultan Sands.

After reading some of the reviews i was slightly apprehensive, however after working in the travel industry abroad for 5 years i am fully aware that most of the time people only come onto these sites to complain.

From the moment we arrived to the moment we left we were well and truely looked after. The grounds and hotel are open and relaxed with a friendly atmosphere. From the restaurant and the bars you can look out to the turquoise waters of the beautiful indian ocean. I can not emphasise enough how amazing it is.

The staff are always saying hello and asking how you are, from the gardeners to the management.

The rooms are a little tired but they are spacious and are cleaned very well. The air con is on low when you arrive back to your room, however the solution to this problem is to turn it off!!! It will soon warm up due to Zanzibar being a hot country!!

The all-inclusive is definately the best option. You will receive a list of the all-inclusive drinks on offer, which includes named brands of alcohol (aways a nice suprise!) The bottles of water are the perfect size, and if you are really thirsty why not order 2 or 3!!
The bar staff/waiters are more than happy to take your drinks order if you ask, and when you go to the bar to order they will insist on bringing your drinks over to your sunbed for you.

There is so much to choose from in the restaurant, and yet again the staff are very helpful.

We actually got married during our stay. From the meeting with the managment to discuss what we would like, to our wedding meal at the end of the evening it was perfect, and nothing was too much trouble to ensure it was exactly what we wanted.

There are so many snorkling opportunities near by that i suggest you take a mask and snorkel set with you. You can walk straight out onto the beach which there is alot of at low tide. Watch out for the sea urchins as these are around the coral areas, they are clearly visable. There is a strong breeze which can give the illusion that the sun isnt too strong. However it is, so make sure you wear a high factor as you will burn without realising. It can get a bit cool in the evening due to the breeze, although im sure vistors over the next coulple of months will welcome it as zanzibar will soon be into its hottest time of the year. We were in the sun from finishing our breakfact until about 17:00ish every day.

So if you have made it to the end of our review i hope you have worked out that if you book to stay at Sultan sands, you wont be disappointed. After speaking to many other guests we found that no one had a bad word to say :)
