Sultan Sands has many positive attributes; we enjoyed the creative dinner arrangements and entertainments, we felt safe with the many Masai guards around, great location on a good beach and generally good food. An OK fitness center.

We stayed at the hotel for six nights and spent most of our time there in a relaxing holiday.

Things are in good order at Sultan Sands but there were quite a few quality breaches to watch out for; the most serious being that we got food poisoned on their lunch restaurant on the beach, destroying a couple of days of the holiday. There was only cold water for showers in the afternoon, and even though we told about it several times it was not fixed. There was a worm on one of the pillows when we arrived. The bathroom water had a smell of sewage.

Service was great all places but at the reception.

It´s an enjoyable place. We will probably not go back there, but could recommend others to assess Sultan Sands against price of stay and price of expensive drinks if you like alcoholic drinks.

What a beautiful island and a stunning resort. Next to the BlueBay, on the eastern coast, it's situation alone made it 5* for us. The staff couldn't have been nicer - even to a drunken lout at 2 am in the morning, they maintained their caring and polite attitude! They made an effort to remember the names of our children and were friendly and caring without being intrusive. Each dinner seemed to get better and better with local talent showcased each evening, finishing with a Saturday night dinner on the beach, Jack Vettriano style. They caught a 100kg sailfish and hung it and sliced it there and then before cooking it on the beach. Each meal was accompanied by excellent selections of veges, fruits and starches - all creatively and attractively displayed - a triumph of logistical management considering the limited resources of the island itself.
The Masai security kept the beach boys away which was pleasant.
A local shop provided essentials like suncream and mosquite repellent if you forgot yours.
There was a chance for parents to relax as kids played around the resort and the beach as it was all very safe and the waves were small and non-threatening - broken by the reef a couple of kilometres out to sea.
All the activities were accessible - from scuba to canoeing, volleyball and games room type entertainment.
The resort was very secure and one had confidence to relax and enjoy it without feeling exposed to any threat.
There was plenty of tours to go on - easy to organise.
We were offered a chance by the hotel to spend our last night in Stone Town at their sister hotel, the Beyt Al Chai. Only 5 beds, each uniquely and beautifully decorated, we were welcomed by the manager and his staff with a cocktail and snacks function in their lounge. We ate at the local Faransi market and then again at the well-known Beyt Al Chai resturant which was super. Staying in Stone Town, instead of a 1-2 hr tour was a chance to just soak in the atmosphere and the life there without rushing through. Quite an experience for our youngsters as well as ourselves.

Room Tip: We had two adjourning rooms, right on the beach, which was perfect for a family. Spacious and comfortable with nets on the 4-poster beds and a TV, not that we needed one at all!!

We spent one week at Sultan Sands and it was well worth it! I don't think I've ever eaten so well in any holiday before!! Great friendly staff, not too busy and therefore very relaxing!
I can only confirm: we'd also love to go back!!

Big ups to the Sultan Sands team! They are passionate about customer centricity, and everyone is extremely friendly and helpful. They offer a variety of activities to cater for all guests, there is never a dull moment. The overall experience from the rooms, facilities, food, service and of course the sea is mind blowing!

Room Tip: Choose a room that's closer to the reception area, you have easy access to your room instead of having to negotaite the steep incline, whicg can be challenging especially during the day when it's hot.

In our life we have traveled all over the places. In July we spent 5 days at Sultan Sands and we can state that really very rarely we have found an excellent service as the one found here.
Any small detail it looked like to be tailored for each single client, in other words it was not at all a "copy and paste" service.
About FOOD....EXCELLENT both quality and quantity!!!! ....nothing more to add...
About CLEANING .... I'm traveling in Africa since 12 years and I never ever seen a cleaner place ....bar, communal toilets, swimming pool, restaurants, beach, without mentioning the bungalow that was spotlessly cleaned every day !!!! The landscaped gardens were amazing and the walkways always clean from falling leaves.
About SECURITY.... I have never seen in my life an in-room spacious safe as in Sultan Sands...you can store even a laptop inside !!!
About ANIMATION....it was very nice and at the same time very discrete....you could get involved only if you wanted to, besides it was very nice to change dinner location every night.
For the football European cup final between Spain and Italy, it was really superb to prepare both Italian and Spanish typical food and all the waiters were dressing Italian and Spanish national football teams T-shirts.
You can barely find a better place !!!!!!!
