Very close to the Matemwe village, Panga Chumvi is a small pension not too far from the main activity center (e.g. expect 20-30 min to walk up to OneOcean / ScubaLibre diving centers).

We can either choose a big room directly facing the beach, or go for the cheaper option with a room few meters away, part of the main buildings. That's what we opted for. It was really quiet, staff was friendly.

Food are expensive (10USD for main course) but in line with all neighboring hotels/pensions. And very good.

The location is great and Matemwe is a wonderful beach. The room we stayed in was small, and its location was behind the restaurant which meant lots of noise from employees especially early in the morning. There are other rooms in a much nicer and more private location so perhaps you need to specifically ask for them. Definitely would not advise eating in the restaurant here even if you stay here- the food is mediocre at best and the prices are high. There are many other hotels on this stretch that offer better food and service for similar prices. We ate at the Sunshine Hotel just down the beach and it was wonderful.

Beautiful location, right on the beach. The property next door has a couple of guard dogs who bark at passers by on the beach. They seem to know if you are staying there for some reason though and quickly become your friend. If you like dogs, fine. If not, pay them little attention and they'll do the same. I guess it is reassuring knowing they are keeping an eye on anyone up to no good at night! That aside, bring your snorkel gear as the water is warm, shallow and there is an excellent reef about 50 metres out. There are women in the water picking a crop that grows there (used for manufacturing) and we found this a fascinating piece of local life to watch each day. The food is slightly expensive for Tanzania, but still cheap in comparison to home pricing. We had a beach bungalow which we loved and a large veranda looking out at the sea. So so relaxing. Deepest sleeps I have had in a long time. Staff really nice.

Stayed here for a couple of days last year, Cozy little place with a beach literally all to your self.
Wendy is amazingly hospitable, and the chef made us some amazing food. Fishing, diving and snorkeling excursions are available (by externally operators) if you wish as well.

Like all places in matemwe, you can't really swim for some parts of the day, due to the tide, but It's still stunning :)

Panga Chumvi is situated in a lovely location on the quiet end of Matemwe, but still just an easy walk away from the dive centers and other restaurants etc. The rooms are lovely, large and clean. The bathrooms are cleam, spacious and have good hot water. Rebecca who is co-owner is extremely helpful and friendly as well as all the staff that work there. We were a little unlucky with the weather on two of our days there, but there were board games and books at the restaurant to keep us entertained. The food at the restaurant was also very good.

Our only comment would be that the restaurant / bar should be better stocked up with snacks and a greater variety of drinks.

Room Tip: Seaside rooms are right on the beach.
