We visited Villa Kiva after spending almost two weeks in Tanzania climbing Kilimanjaro, doing Safari and visiting Stone Town; it was a great way to end our vacations. We didn't go into the beach, but it made for a beautiful sight from the hotel terrace; everyone in the staff was extremely welcoming and kind.
We stayed in one of the villas which was more like an entire apartment for ourselves, which was very tastefully decorated, clean and just overall comfortable; I'd give them 5 stars there.
The only aspect I felt it was lacking was in food; after days of tasting delicious food in other restaurants both in Tanzania (main land) and Stone Town in Zanzibar, we felt the cooking at Villa Kiva was not at the same level, it was just ok.
Other than the food, everything else made for a wonderful and relaxing experience.

It was arriving to paradise after climbing Mount Kilimanjaro!! The food is too good to be true, I loved every single meal I tried on the menu! also the fresh fruits in the morning during breakfast were super tropical goodness. We extended the stay in the hotel because we were very comfortable. Also special thanks to the room service guys for always keeping the room clean. The staff is extremely helpful, understanding and friendly. it would be the number one place I would recommend for a vacation in Zanzibar!

Room tip: Ocean view rooms!

We wanted to stay for a few days to relax after climbing Kilimanjaro and we got exactly that. A really wonderful hotel with excellent attentive but not intrusive staff. It seemed to be very much a honeymoon type of hotel with lots of couples which meant it was quiet and relaxing. Would highly recommend if you are looking for luxurious tranquility.

Room tip: We chose a sea view room on the 1st floor and were not disappointed with our balcony overlooking the beach. Amazing sunrise!!!!

We traveled here with a group of friends and stayed for 3 nights. The room is very nice and clean, i was really impressed, it looks like a 4 star. They have 2 pools and they provide towels. Breakfast is very diverse and dinner was amazing in the first night ( I took the sirloin stake - which was the best stake ever). Service is very good, the prices are higher than in other places. I was surprised because the restaurant manager asked us where we went for dinner one day and he was somehow offended that we went to another restaurant because he prepared a table for us (I don't know why, because we did not announce that we are coming for dinner and did not make any reservation). Before leaving, we ate one more time at their restaurant but the quality of the steak was not the same (full of fat, chewy, one side was done more than the other, weird cut: one side thinner than the other, even the side dish was different).
It looks like a small paradise with an incredible view to the sea, but as soon as you look over the fence you see people walking in pitch dark (they don't have electrical power) and they live in clay houses or even in the street.

Room tip: rooms look exactly like in the pictures

Villa Kiva is a lovely hotel overlooking beautiful Matemwe Beach. We stayed for 13 nights and found the staff to be friendly and efficient, the food in the restaurant to be delicious, and the facilities and grounds clean and well maintained. There were two pools that were rarely crowded with lots of lounge chairs by the pools and in the beach area. There is a dive center where you can book dives and snorkel trips with One Ocean. The front desk will also help book you on other excursions around the island. Will definitely stay here again.
