Just got back from Tamani Villas for the 3rd time now. I still haven't got tired of visiting that place its always a pleasure going there. The atmosphere is so relaxing, be it the furniture and beach view from inside the villa to the swimming pool and relaxing hammock out side. Its a perfect spot for family as you have so much privacy to enjoy. And if you go with friends its amazing too as you all can just be yourself. We also had a course with Tamani Foundation which was wonderful! I love the noble cause of the villas, that it funds the school for the villagers!

My wife & I returned from a trip to Tanzania. We visited Arusha, Dar-es-Salaam & Zanzibar. In Zanzibar we stayed at Tamani Villas for three nights in February 2014.

To say we had a wonderful time is an understatement. The drive from the airport to the resort was pretty and we were warmly welcomed at the villas with deliciously refreshing passion juice!

The amazing about the Tamani villas was the absolute peace and quiet except for the sound of crashing waves and swaying coconut trees. The serenity of the miles of the clean white sanded beach is to be seen to be believed.

The accommodation was very comfortable and the food was awesome. The free learning center for children and adults behind the villas are a must see. The gay laughter of children playing on swings and enjoying their break is heart warming.

We would highly recommend this resort for honeymooners, family and elderly as the atmosphere is perfect for a wonderful quiet vacation at a very reasonable cost.

We hope to revisit this piece of heaven.

Room Tip: The "Sultan" room is very spacious with a great view.

What makes Tamani totally unique is that the villas are part of a social enterise which fund the primary school behind. Seeing the healthy, energetic, smiling children makes it clear that somehow your stay has brought something positive to the village.

The Tamani villas are beautiful, private and homely. The villas open out onto a colourful garden, great pool, glorious stretch of white sand and Indian ocean. As if that's not enough it is the team at Tamani which really make your time even more special - Babu Ali, Kazija, Mulhat and the cooks make you right at home.

We had the most amazing stay. They coped with a group of 20 wonderfully. I can't recommend the Tamani foundation and Tamani villas highly enough.

We stayed at the Tamani Villas in mid-August 2013, and what an amazing stay it was.

Our villa stood right on the beach in the mixed residential-tourist neighborhood of Matemwe. Apparently, Matemwe is the last such "gem" on Zanzibar seeing as all of the other beach areas are built up around mega resorts and are hugely overcrowded. Our beach was lovely and there was never more than a handful of people around us.

Bedrooms were furnished with comfortable beds (and mosquito netting, although we didn't find mosquitoes to be a problem in August) and standalone a/c units. The bathrooms did have hot running water but hot water is even harder to come by on Zanzibar as opposed to the mainland, so the water was not piping hot, but we were quite alright.

The most incredible part of our stay was the service. Full board was included in our stay, and we had a personal chef making us 3 meals a day that were served to us by the wonderful staff of the villa. Meals were made of simple, local ingredients and were absolutely scrumptious because of their homemade character. The chef also asked for our input with what we wanted to eat. Note that alcohol is not allowed in the property but this did not prove to be a problem since there are two small hotels next door that do serve alcohol. We had free bottled water and sodas available for $1 in the villa.

Other amenities were: private pool (cleaned 2x daily), laundry service ($0.50/item), some board games & books, and (ostensibly) wifi.

On a side note, the villas are pretty well hidden and are not rented out too often so if you are making reservations (diving, snorkeling, taxi, airport transfer, etc.) you must ascertain that the driver knows where to pick you up: one gate away from Zanzibar Retreat hotel and two gates away from Sunshine hotel.

It was a painful parting as we had such an amazing time at Tamani.

We had the most amazing time at Tamani Villas! The villas are right on the beach and the rooms look out onto the ocean. The sand is whiter than white and the water in the ocean warm as bathwater! If you dont fancy swimming in the ocean, then there is a nice pool.

We were fed and watered and extremely well looked after. The staff are courteous and obliging and nothing is too much trouble.

Mnemba Island is close by where you can enjoy first class snorkelling - it feels like you are in a giant aquarium.

We had a wonderful time and a big thank you to the owners for making our trip a memorable one. Their project to provide education to the local community is amazing and highly commendable.

Highly recommended!!

Just got back from a week long stay at Tamani Villas and it was absolutely amazing. It is the closest I have ever come to seeing paradise on earth! Amazing luxurious villas, friendly staff, swimming pools, beautiful gardens which open up on to a whitesand beach! 15 minute walk from a PADI scuba diving centre down the beach, an hour's drive from zanzibar's famous stone town. You can rent cycles or motorbikes to drive along the beach for $10-15 an hour, there's spice tours and turtle aquariums all close by. At night you can lie in a hammock or relax by the sea and see a sky full of beautiful stars (which is a rarity for us with all the light pollution back home!) - the honeymoon couple staying there before us told us they saw shooting stars a few times too! sunrise is also amazing to watch

Baba Ali the manager is helpful and friendly (as are all the staff), and Shabbir the owner is one of the nicest men I've ever met - he's set up a small school for disadvantaged children from the local village; it's only a couple minutes from the villas (and a must see if you get a chance!)

Would not hesitate to go back again!
