“Beautiful private cottages in remote Zanzibar”
Reviewed July 7, 2014

We stayed here for four nights after an eight-day safari in Uganda. Kasha is a very nice property in the northeast of Zanzibar. We loved our Seafront Cottage that was very large and very comfortable. It really felt like a private villa with its own plunge pool. We enjoyed the view from the veranda and the very large bathroom with separate shower and bathtub. The bathtub was huge and made out of some stone. It took forever to fill, but it was relaxing. There was a TV in the room, but no reception. However, we could rent DVDs and watched a couple f movies. We were on half board and that was OK. We paid extra for lunch for several days as there are very limited other eating options in the area. Kasha is truly isolated and you have to drive down an awful road for quite some distance. When I had read other reviews about this, I thought that the guests were probably a bit too sensitive or exaggerating. I thought for sure nothing will beat the poor roads in Uganda. I was wrong. It truly was a bad drive and a regular sedan will have trouble. We took an airport taxi for $ 50.00. It was a sedan and I think the driver was sort of sorry he agreed to drive us as I am sure his car was somewhat damaged in the process of maneuvering the road. I felt sorry for him which made the whole taxi trip stressful. However, we were rewarded when we finally got to the resort. The common areas are nice, but nothing special. Food was average to good. Some decent wine choices (all South African) at fair prices. We enjoyed the pool area and the views over the ocean from there. There is very little swimming in the ocean neither in high or low tide. The reef is there and many sea urchins. The views however are very nice. We relaxed for the most part for the four days which is what we were looking for. If you plan to leave the resort a lot, that may be a bit of an effort. We took the trip to the private beach which was OK, but still not great for swimming. One really needs to be out in the ocean to swim. I think Kasha is beautiful and I would recommend it if you want peace and quiet and can be comfortable just staying put. I was a bit disappointed when seeing some other areas on the drive back to the airport. I had imagined some ocean paradise with many swaying palm trees etc. That was not so much the case in the area around Kasha. It is certainly lush, but not so many palms. But it still met our needs. If you want privacy and good sea views, I would recommend Seafront villas as there is nobody in front of you. The Seaview villas look mostly just onto the Seafront villas and you can see into their outdoors space from the paths. Service at the hotel was very nice and general manager and staff looked well after guests.

I stayed at Kasha in march and I felt in love with it! It is the perfect place to relax and cuddle yourself!
The location is absolutely magic, seemes taken from a fairytale with in front the seight of Mnemba Island and the dhows across the lagoon. It you love to dive or snorkeling it is the perfect place because Mnemba Atol is very close and one of the best places in the world for scuba, I swimmed with dolphins, turtles and whale sharks...
i loved to take sun in my private plunge pool in the morning (in my front sea villa I was taken sun topless because you have a lor of privacy) and in the afternoon in the main infinity pool enjoying the panorama on the Indian Ocean and watching the swallows that arrived punctualy at 5 pm to quench the thirst without stoping from flying, magic moments!
The rooms are very spacious, you really feel home because also the resort is very big and have only 11 rooms so you never hear other guests and fell like a queen/king in your reign!
The food is excellent, service fantastic and all the team makes you feel cuddle. I want to thank again to everybody and specialy to Mariam, the spa lady, I miss you soo much! :-) .-)

Room Tip: Front sea villas are the best if you want the perfect privacy!

Had a wonderful stay here. The rooms are very spacious and having a plunge pool on the patio outside was so nice - they are all individual small villas so you have privacy and don't hear the other guests. It was such a wonderfully peaceful stay, unplugged from the world.

This is a lovely small property (I think about 12 or 14 villas) and the staff is very nice. What made this a five star experience for us was the GM's, Andrea, hospitality. He helped us arrange wonderful snorkeling and lunches on the beach and was always there to make sure we were happy without ever being intrusive.

Even though it was the start of the rainy season, we had very little rain during our 3 days here.

Loved our stay here and would recommend it strongly!

Room Tip: The ocean view villas are more private as you can see the plunge pools of some of the other rooms a...

We loved loved loved it.

Getting to Kasha was a bit of an adventure, rocking it through the 'roads' in the villages, but our driver is skilled and we arrived safe and sound to the resort. Andrea, the manager, was there to greet us, and gave us an orientation to the resort. He is around most of the time, and the staff are always polite and ready to attend to any of our requests. The chalets look exactly like the photos posted in the resort's website.

There is a whole list of activities/excursions you can partake in (the driver and guides used by Kasha were pleasant)... or really, just laze in your personal dip pool, or by the communal infinity pool overlooking the ocean. RIght after noon, around 2pm, you will see a line of dhows making their way to the local fish market to sell off their catch of the day. Those dhows, with their white sails dotting the clear blue waters is absolutely beautiful. We did the Stone Town walking tours and also the snorkeling + sandbank excursion. En-route to the snorkeling spot, we even met a pair of dolphins frolicking in the ocean. The dolphins were squeaking as they played through the waters, and I was squealing in delight :)

The food is amazing. We looked forward to our breakfasts and dinners. Every single day! If you are lucky to get served the garlic butter, ask for more bread! Its really delicious!

The WIFI at the resort's common areas work perfectly so staying connected was not an issue. The ONLY thing we felt could had been enhanced was the air-conditioning in the chalet. With such a big space to cool, the air-conditioning unit seemed insufficient. Perhaps, some ceiling fans can be installed in time to come. The resort is powered by its own generators, so the weak air-conditioning could had been limited by the electricity voltage/flow etc. But overall, that is just a small small area that we were happy to overlook, given that Kasha was such an amazingly well-kept, maintained and managed resort.

Average ratings for the spa/gym - we did not use them so are unable to rate it.

Oh, and if you plan to be out after the sun has set, be sure to have your mosquito repellent handy.

If we were to visit Tanzania again, would be return? You bet we would :)

A gem of an hotel ,secluded , quiet with breathtaking views across a lagoon and the Indian Ocean. Watching the villagers fishing in the lagoon at low tide or the dhows returning with their catch whilst having a drink or lunch at the pool bar is a wonderful way to pass the time.
The food is excellent - creative and light with plenty of fresh fish. Heaven !( with one exception -the eggs at breakfast were very pale and poor taste . There is a problem sourcing eggs on the island )
The massages in the spa are top class .
Very friendly staff backed up by a most helpful general manager .
We only did one trip - a guided trip to Stonetown . Well worth it to get a better understanding of
the people & their culture. Next time we would do the diving & sailing excursions.
A perfect hotel for a leisurely retreat !

Room Tip: They all have ocean views.
