“A memorable stay”
Reviewed August 28, 2013

My husband and I were on honeymoon and had the best 8 days staying at Azanzi. On arrival welcomed with a chilled bottle of champagne in our room. The manager Glen and all his staff were fantastic. The food was divine. A real homely paradise. It's not a big resort, it's luxury with a rustic charm and cosy. We had loved it and we were so sad to leave.

What a beautiful hotel! We were greeted by friendly staff and offered a cooling fruit drink. I can honestly say that our room is the best I have ever stayed in...spacious and comfortable with a private patio and choice of indoor or outdoor shower or bath tub. We stayed on an all inclusive basis; breakfast was buffet style, whereas lunch and dinner were waiter served, ( except a seafood buffet and Swahili buffet on two evenings). Staff were always very helpful and attentive and no wait to be served. Carla, the Assistant Manager, added a really nice touch by introducing herself and always checking that everything was ok. The hotel led straight on to a white sand beach with a few sun beds and the hotel loaned out reef shoes to enable guests to walk out to the reef at low tide safely. The relatively small number of rooms allowed for a really personal service for a really special holiday.
Would love to return some day!

Room Tip: We had a room with outside shower which was lovely. But, I think all rooms were good dependent on i...

Azanzi was much more than I expected on my first overseas trip. The setting is perfect, with white beach, gorgeous sunrise and perfect weather. The rooms are spacious, well equiped and beautifully decorated to every last detail. Staff are very friendly, helpful and professional. Every meal is a masterpiece and the variety endless. The highlight of my trip was the snorkeling at Mnemba Atoll when I swam with two dolphins

I travelled to Azanzi Beach Resort from Dubai from July 6-10 with a group of 12 friends for a wedding. Some of the group had average experiences at Zanzibar hotels previously so we were a little apprehensive, but Azanzi exceeded all our expectations - and being regular guests at Dubai's luxury hotels it's fair to assume we have very high standards! The resort itself is beautiful and the villas were pretty, spacious and clean with amazing power showers indoor and outdoor. The food was a real highlight, with a la carte lunch, and a menu that changed every day, a very pleasant surprise. A slightly greedy group, when we ordered extra every lunch time the team was happy to oblige! Dinner was more buffet in style, but there were live cooking stations every night and again these varied. The real highlight though was the team at Azanzi and the way they rallied round to ensure my friends' wedding was perfect. The couple had done very little advanced planning for this and they didn't need to - on the day, the gardeners created a beautiful gazebo and bouquets for the bride and bridesmaids, the restaurant team set up a private dining area and the manager Cara recommended an amazing band, which played for three hours non stop. It was a very friendly, relaxed resort so we invited the other guests to join in the wedding ceremony and the celebrations that evening. We had the run of the resort and every single member of the team went over and above to ensure the bride and groom had everything they wanted. It was brilliant and I can't imagine a similar experience would be possible at another hotel. I would definitely recommend this hotel and would love to go back - book direct via Cara and you won't go wrong.

My husband and I stayed at the Azanzi Beach Hotel for our belated honeymoon. We saved up for a year and a half for this trip. We knew we wanted to go to a luxurious but relaxed beachside hotel in Zanzibar, and Azanzi did not disappoint! We arrived to find our beautiful room decorated with flowers and chilled champagne waiting for us. The hotel staff also organized a special, private beachside dinner for us one night. Our room was very spacious, tidy, and comfortable-- no complaints there! The aircon worked great. We also spent plenty of time hanging out in the common areas near the restaurant and swimming pool and on the lounge chairs on the beach.

For our stay we signed up for the "Ultimate Package", which we recommend (I think it may be only available in the off season, however). This package includes a spice tour, a snorkeling day, and a massage at the hotel spa. Definitely sign up for the all-inclusive food and drinks! The food and drinks (free drinks for all-inclusive include local beer, wine, and spirits) at the hotel are excellent. The prawns and seafood were especially good! The desserts aren't the sweetest, but that's true for all of Zanzibar and Tanzania-- it's difficult to get proper sweeteners and cream for desserts, apparently. Be sure to spend some time with the bartenders such as Amos-- they are very friendly and happy to play a board game with you if they're not too busy. The pool also has a swim-up bar! One morning, Amos and some of the other hotel staff organized some coconut drinks for some of the hotel guests. We watched in delight as one of the hotel staff climbed up one of the hotel's very tall palm trees to fetch the coconuts!

Azanzi is located on a beautiful white beach that is great for walking. It's fun to walk and see all of the fishing boats and the locals tending to the seaweed farms. Be careful when walking near the village, though-- there will be plenty of kids asking for money and people trying to sell you things! In front of the hotel, you can also swim in a relatively protected and calm area during high tide. The hotel also has kayaks which you can take out for free! During low tide it is not possible to swim, but it's very fun to walk out to the barrier reef and check out all of the marine life. Azanzi provides sturdy plastic shoes (a must since there are many prickly sea urchins) and walking sticks free of charge. The hotel can also provide a guide to show you around the reef and make sure you navigate safely. The guide is free although it's recommended to tip the guide about $5. The hotel has a dive and snorkelling center located on site. Trips are run to nearby Mnemba Atoll daily.

Cara, the hotel's manager, was great about attending to our every need. She organized several tours for us. We went snorkelling at Mnemba Atoll and Chumbe Island (highly recommended) and also went on a spice farm tour and a Stone Town tour. On the way to Stone Town we asked our guide to stop at Mtoni Palace Ruins, which was the childhood home of Princess Salme, who married a German and wrote a book about her life as a Zanzibari Princess in the 1800s. I really enjoyed my visit to Mtoni, so try to stop there for a few minutes if you can. Cara also arranged for a leak in our sink to be fixed very quickly and provided medicines and band-aids when I had some blisters after a long walk.

All in all, we had a fanastic week-long honeymoon in Zanzibar. We would definitely stay at Azanzi again!

A trip to Zanzibar had been on my bucket list for awhile now and June being my 50th birthday we decided that we should get it ticked off. From trip advisor we narrowed the options down and settled on Azanzi due to the number of rooms and the brilliant reviews. We were not disappointed at all and can recommend it to anyone. Cara, the manager, goes out of her way to try and ensure that all your needs (and wants) are taken care of! The staff were exceptionally friendly and always willing to assist in any matter. The food was brilliant and the chef really knows how to use the local produce and spices!! The rooms are very well equipped with fans and air conditioners, baths and showers and double basins. The hotel has very well priced tours and activities and will assist in arranging them for you. Be aware that the shuttle driver will try to sell you tours on the way to the hotel. I suggest that you hold off making any firm arrangements until you have checked the hotel offerings. The beach boys will also approach you for activities and tours, they are not recommended and are not necessarily cheaper anyway. The on site dive centre, Scuba Fish, have well priced snorkeling and scuba at the near by Mnemba Atoll. This was my first snorkeling experience and I have said it will be my last as I think I would be disappointed any where else! The Aquarium named reef could not be better named.

Room Tip: We were allocated room 118 by Cara, we think it is a good choice as it is mid way between reception...

Azanzi was recommended to us by friends who stayed there previously and their advise was sound. The hotel is filled with friendly staff who are always ready to help. It has a lovely, rustic charm to it with thatched roofs and wooden decks and pathways. The room we had was nice and cozy with an aircon and mosquito netting around the bed. We also had an extra outside shower and our own jacuzzi out on the private deck.

The entertainment area had a gorgeous pool and bar that could serve you right in the pool. The deck upstairs had a view to kill for either at sunrise or sunset. The bartenders were very friendly and could fix you up any cocktail whether on their menu or not. 3 meals a day were served with fantastic themed dinners around either seafood or Italian or local fare among others.

The hotel had a comprehensive list of tours and activities available especially with a dive centre within the hotel, Scubafish Zanzibar, and Mnemba Atoll 4km up the coast that has the best diving I've ever experienced. They also have a transparent sea kayak available to take out into the sea during high tide. Since its see-through you can observe the sea life below as you explore the reef, just don't forget the sun block! The reception staff and managers are at hand to advise on any of the activities.

Since we went during low season the hotel was blissfully tranquil. Doing nothing was as much a treasured experience as seeing Stone Town or snorkeling, and with a sea that was a balmy 28°C (82°F) leaving the hotel was a little difficult at times.

As a special note, Cara, the hotel manager went out of her way to accommodate us. A big thank you to her!

We would definitely come back not only to Zanzibar but to Azanzi Beach Hotel. Next time we would like to see the west/south coast but we will definitely stay there for a few nights and go diving again.
