Was scared reading the reviews below but just gave it a chance and was given a wonderful surprise. From the time of pick-up (a smiling driver) to check-in (3 mins check in as the rooms were prior booked). Wanted to check the room before payment and was allowed to, the sea view was awesome and waves literally knocking at the balcony. Two bars and a restaurant with sea view provides ample comfort with changing their serving style daily from banquet to a la carte. Snake dance in the evening was an add-up and really gave the excitement required. Restaurant attracts many a people from nearby resorts who weren't able to get a room here. A blanket request at 1.30 in the night was promptly attended to, request for little extra check out time was gladly permitted, taxi to drop back was ready at the requested time. It was absolutely fun with diving facilities, small shop inside the premises, spa, pool, greenery and sea. We would highly recommend it if you are a leisure traveller and want to be in a place which provides full relaxation and your privacy is well respected. And yes the beach, one of the best and safest in Zanzibar.

Room Tip: Prefer a sea-view room. Visit all the resorts nearby as all are inter connected. Have a late night w...

I recently returned from 3 nights here and have mixed feelings...

- CONS -

The Room: we booked the deluxe rooms and while they were very close to the pool, the bar and the restaurant they were not inviting nor welcoming. Rooms were very basic, stark white paint, no decorations, basic bathroom and bad lighting. They are not worth the money. I also viwed the sea rooms which look directly onto the ocean again was not impressed, there is just no character to them.

Service: The service at the bar and restaurant was not friendly or helpful. It was an effort for the staff to bring a menu over and even more effort to get the bill. There are no smiles here.

- PROS -

Location: Absolute beachfront on the most wonderful beach which also showcases wonderful sunsets. This hotel also connects with the Langi Langi Beach Bungalows and you can use their pool which was low key and lovely.

Happy Hour: 5,000 shilling cocktails from 5-7pm. Again with the service though, slow and unfriendly but when made by the cocktail bar manager, they were yummy.

Pool: The pool was huge and had lots of day beds around to relax and chill out.

Day Spa: Located by the poolside and I received the best massage of my life there. It was wonderful.

Sad to say I have to rate this hotel poorly. I booked very last minute, and was given the option to get a free transfer from the airport or a discount. I chose the free transfer, but upon arrival there was a 20 minute hassle to get the agreed upon deal. It seems to be the way the resort operates: squeeze out as much money as possible, as they don't seem to bank on repeat customers. Drinks at happy hour are watered down, you need to pay a deposit for beach towels, exchange rates are very poor to say the least...You don't 'feel the love' when you stay in a place that's run like that.
I stayed in a garden room, which is overpriced for what you get: a smelly, damp and dark room, which is in need of serious updating. It was very clean, the bed was comfy, the shower was warm, it had a fan but no a/c. For single travelers an upgrade isn't really worth while, as for the money you'd pay, you can also stay at the Hilton down the road...
Location wise it's great if you want to be in the middle of the hustle and bustle of Nungwi, but not great if you're looking for the secluded tropical island paradise feel. If you're looking for the latter, avoid Nungwi altogether, There is an on-site dive outfit, which is convenient and has good gear, but I found their competitors just down the beach friendlier and running boats that are less crowded.
Staff is hit or miss. Some are friendly, others are happy to ignore you sitting in the restaurant for 30 minutes. Breakfast is poor, and they run out of items frequently. Only powdered coffee is served, presumably to get people to buy very expensive 'real' coffee in their coffee shop. The transfer back to the airport that the hotel organised (and which I paid for in advance), didn't show up, which at 5.30 AM means you're very much stuck. I chanced to bump into the owner/manager, who made a few calls and got me a driver that got me to the airport at breakneck speed. Had he not been there, there was no staff in sight, not even security, so I would have missed my flight.
All in all, I won't be coming back, and wouldn't recommend it to people other than overland groups or British teens on gap year, who seem to be crowding the place anyway. Shame.

Room Tip: If you can afford it, go for the sea view rooms

I stayed for two days as part of a month long Africa Overland tour with G Adventures. We loved this hotel in Nugwi, papradise on earth!
The rooms were spotless, modern, spacious and had a poolside view. The pool itself was massive and the bar and restaurant overlook the beach with its white sands and crystal clear waters. We could have stayed here forever it was so nice.
The hotel were helpful in every way and though the restaurant service was slow and the menu limited, we just didn't care when you have so much luxury and ease at your fingertips.
The prices were extremely reasonable too.
Don't be fooled by the approach to Nungwi when you feel like you are entering a shanty town, once you reach the seafront you have lots of restaurants to choose from, groovy bars, gorgeous beaches and magnificent sunsets and stars to look forward to. What a beautiful place, so sorry to leave it and would love to go back!

We stayed in this place for 5 days in December. Looking forward to a nice and quite vacation in paradise, we found ourselves with a lazy receptionist which informed us, at 11:00 pm upon our arrival, that there was no reservation for us, as the payment had not been done. After a long discussion and escalation to the reservations manager, they finally agreed to temporarily give us a room which they assured to us was better than the room booked. We noticed during our stay that the hotel applied this practice very often, as we overheard many discussions in the reception about allegedly non-existing reservations.
The room was ok, the bed comfortable and the air conditioning working. We received at the end at the pool. At the end of our stay, we quickly used a room of a lower standard for changing before leaving, it we were impressed of how uncomfortable this rooms were! Hardly working shower, small beds, no aircon, no view... Definitely not worth the price, even of the lowest standard.
The food in general was average, breakfast was generally very poor, the lunch and dinner menus were better in general. However, for food, the suggestion would be to go to another nearby hotel where the food was much better.
Also, the Amaan charges 15% credit card commissions, while the other nearby hotels only charge 10%
What makes this place so good is the beautiful location and the beach, as well as the public installations (bar, restaurant, pool). Unfortunately, the managers of this hotel have not been able to exploit the potential of the place.

We had a bad experience at the resort next door, BUT then we moved to Amaan Bungalows, and everybody were so incredibly friendly, they fixed a room for us immediately. We stayed at a three single bed room by the pool, (very good pool I must say), we stayed for 8 days.
The room was very clean, it smelled very good, and the towels, and beds were very good as well. And the AC was a blessing, no noise at all.
The food at the restaurant was so good, nobody got sick, and we stayed for so long, we practically tried everything, and reasonable prices too.
And the not to forget the staff. So all in all, the best spot in Nungwi, without a doubt!

Room Tip: Choose a pool view room or a seaview room, you pay very little extra, but it's worth every dime!

We managed to get a sea view room here for a good price off-season. We looked at the garden view rooms but wouldn't recommend them as they are old and dark. The sea view rooms are newer and much better. The location is very good as it nestles inbetween other resorts and you can walk from one to the other. The food was ok but we would recommend eating at Llangilangi next door at least once as the food was excellent and the owner was very hands-on and helpful. The beach at Nungwi is lovely although a lot of seaweed was washed up when the tide went out. When the tide is fully in, there is no beach in front of this hotel although you can walk further along and find some. The staff were efficient and very helpful. The pool was lovely. When we were there they were fitting fridges in all the rooms. TVs would be good too. We would stay here again if the price was right for the sea view rooms.
