Sazani Beach is a beautiful place to stay if you're looking for accommodation which is a little 'off the beaten track' and sufficiently far away from the crowded touristic center of Nungwi with it's big fancy hotels and beach staff hassles. The current hotel managers seem to have a strong sense for running this place sustainable, trying to avoid harmful impact to its surrounding; something that is unfortunately rarely found on Sanzibar. The basic but charming bungalows overlook one of the most stunning beaches I have ever seen. The tidal range is rather strong, so best to enjoy swimming in turquoise waters during high tide and go for nice beach walks, read, relax and watch the locals fish during low tide. I have stayed there twice already and I will definitely not wait for another seven years to come back again.

We spent 5 nights in sunny Sazani Beach Hotel in 11/2011. Sazani Beach Hotel was perfect for for our stay in Zanzibar: good food, very friendly service, right next to beach, possibility to eat in other hotels, beautiful view, privacy and NOT crowded. We were really lucky to hear about this hotel from our contact in Morogoro. It is not a five star hotel but it is cozy and and private “beach house” type atmosphere. We were really fortunate to get to know the lovely owners of this little Hotel.

Room Tip: Hide tide was bit noisy at times and it woke me up (on the other hand I am quite light sleeper).

Great and funny staff, good apartment, though shower didnt work so I had to wash myself under the pipe. You get tea on the porch every morning. When you wake up its a stunning view. The sea is beautiful, although the high tide sometimes makes sunbathing impossible in the late afternoon. They have a bookshelf where you can leave books or magazines you dont need anymore.
You can choose 3 different meals for lunch (pasta, kingfish or salad), but after one week it gets little borring... but kingfish is awsome! They also have cocktails you can enjoy while watching millions of stars in the evening.

I visited nungwi in August after spending three weeks in Kenya and Uganda. Sazani beach hotel was a perfect choice. The beach was quiet and secluded (and even remained at high tide) but only a fifteen minute walk from the busy nungwi center. The staff was awesome and went out of their way to create a quiet, friendly and safe environment. The rooms are functional, nothing fancy but comfortable and clean.

At first sight I was a bit unsure if I had arrived at the right place as it wasn't what I was expecting, but after further inspection I was pleasantly surprised as to the comfortable and relaxing nature of the resort. Being on the East coast of Nungwi, this side is a lot quieter that the Western side. Best of all even at high tide you have a stunning white sand beach all to yourself!
The view from the cottages over the ocean is nothing but breathtaking, and I sat mesmerized many a moment. The rooms themselves although poorly lit are comfortable with a nice porch area and tea served every morning.
The restaurant, which has a set menu and few choices serves delicious food and is very reasonably priced for what you get. There is also a bar area with a nice seating area overlooking the beach.
I must also commend the exceptional staff for their hospitality and helpfulness.

Room Tip: Pretty much all rooms have a stunning sea view.

This is my favourite hotel in the world! Stunning location, low key friendly attentive service, nice food, lovely rooms- but that location! This hotel is so under stated and sophistocated in so may ways- No aircon just ceiling fans- but the rooms stay cool as all the individual beach bungalows have windows catching the northern coast breeze and high Swahilli coconut thatched roofs! No plagues of biting insects but do they spray the gardens- No they encourage lizards and birds- I love it. Don't want to stay in the usual gated prison style African hotel, don't want subservient terrified staff- come here and enjoy unpretentious wholesome food and cold beer!

Room Tip: Mushini the main man will sort it!

Me and my husband stayed at Sazani from the 24th march to the 31st March for a week before we started our safari. we were the ONLY guests in the place but they still gave excellent service. the staff are very friendly but very relaxed and dont fuss over you too much, the rooms are set up like individual bungalows and are kept really clean by the maid, every time she left the room smelt amazing! As Sazani beach is about half an hour walk from the main town Nungwi, we spent most of our time at Sazani and ate so many great dishes, really simple but very tasty and freshly made.

We also really enjoyed the beach, there is an inital rocky strip at the beginning of the shore but the beach was so quiet and there were no beach boys to hassle you, due to this time being low season the hotel next door was very quiet which probably helped.
Also we spent ages watching the little hermit and ghost crabs wandering round the beach. We did spend one day on a beach in Nugwi which was pure white sand and no rocks etc but much more boring! Sazani also has hammocks set up looking over the beach for relaxing and reading etc.

Though sazani do use a local padi dive operator we decided to go with zanzibar water sports who were operating from the hotel next door (2 min walk along beach), they were excellent, really friendly and chilled out. ended up seeing turtles, small rays and loads of amazing coral, think it was the best diving we have done so far and we each have over 30 so it cant be bad.

Iwould definitely recommend this place to anyone who is looking for lazy days and good honest local food (we ate fish almost every day!) and also if you love fish and chips they do their own mean version! if you are looking for more of a busy athmosphere e.g. more evening entertainment then it would be better to stay in nungwi and save the taxi fare as you are advised not to walk into town at night.

All in all a lovely place, not five star standard, more laid back but certainly clean, friendly and accomodating.
one thing i would say is that due to the frequent power cuts/ fluctuations across the country (to save power) we were very hot at night on a few occasions due the the fan stopping or slowing down but theres not much they coud do about that and the staff were always straight over to us with lanterns or a torch when needed without us having to ask.

Would definately go back again if we get the chance.
