“Simply the best in Zanzibar”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 25, 2013

One word to describe this hotel "magnificent". We stayed 7 days in this brand new hotel. Since our arrival we were warmly greeted and very well taken care of. The rooms are new, beautifully decorated and spacious with an excellent ocean view. Better than we expected. The beach is perfect. White sand and emerald ocean. Local sellers are not disturbing you due to the hotel security. You are really having a relaxing time there. The infinity pool is great. Long and clean. During sunset the pool offers Instagram lovers great shots. My wife had a nice spa treatment. Spa is clean with nice staff. Restaurants were great as well. The food was good. If you like seafood this will be your heaven. Every night there is a music/dance performance in the pool bar. Quite elegant and nice shows. Once a week the hotel organizes a gala dinner where you can mingle with other guests. Overall we had a wonderful holiday thanks to the warm, kind and friendly staff of Hideaway.

Our special thanks go to dearest Samantha Boyle, Guest Manager. Starting from the booking process till our departure, she was extremely attentive, caring and helpful. Her professionalism and smiling face made our holiday happy and memorable. Thank you Samantha.

We had a nice walk with my wife along Nungwi and Kendwa beaches and saw several hotels. I believe Hideaway is far the best hotel in Zanzibar. You will never ever regret.

Room Tip: Rooms in general are spacious. We stayed in junior luxury suite which met our expectations. By the w...

Dear Ferhat A, I remember you both with such fondness and still miss greeting you at the pool for sundown each night, though my waist line for certain does not miss the baklava that you so sweetly presented to me. Please do keep in touch and know that we would welcome you with open arms for your first anniversary. Until then and with kindest regards, Samantha

We arrived 2 days ago and we are very impressed with this new hotel! We were warmly greeted, the rooms are luxurious and comfortable. The staff are very friendly and attentive. The pool overlooks the ocean and provides an excellent view of the sunset. We tried the spa services and highly recommend the African body wraps and massage. There was some entertainment the first night including a singer and an acrobatic group but the second night they only had a singer. We had a fabulous dinner had their carnivorous restaurant, but the Aqua restaurant was also superb. The breakfast buffet was also very good (the best we had in Africa). The surroundings, layout of the resort and gardens are beautifully well appointed. The only negative comments would be that there's no top sheet on the bed, making it difficult if you prefer no heavy blanket. Also they had some technical issues with their sound system for their entertainment. They also have wifi only in public places (they do have hard wired Internet in your room) and the TV channels is limited with poor quality reception. Overall our stay was impressive, relaxing and we highly recommend staying at this new resort!

Dear duthiedon, delighted to hear how you enjoyed the African wraps in the spa and our extensive breakfast buffet. I have passed on your comments to housekeeping who will be certain to reconsider our linen options especially as weather gets hotter. We hope to welcome you again soon. With kind regards, Samantha

I was in this wonderful resort from 10.07 to 17.07.13 with my wife, coming from Italy.
This a brand new great hotel in a magnificent position in a big area descending from a hill to the ocean.
The first impression we had arriving in the hotel was superb. The staff was very friendly, kind and ready to accomplish our request to have a second floor room, as we prefer this kind of arrangement.
The room (we had n.232) was excellent, we had an incredible ocean view also laying on the bed; great room size, the furniture was very elegant and in accordance with local african style.
Everything is planned to give to the guests the best treatment and satisfaction; the restaurants are close to the beach and you can have breakfast, lunch and dinner (we had all-inclusive formula) in front of the sea; the food is excellent and with a good variety each day. Very good the African and Japanese restaurants too.
The beach is what you have ever needed: fine white sand, blue and emerald sea, confortable beds and beach staff ready for every guest request; the boys even laid the beach towels on the bed, bringing you everything yuo ask. In the afternoon they offer fresh fruit to the guests directly on your beach bed position.
No problems with the local "masai" sellers on the beach because there is security service that avoid them to approach the resort beach area.
Great athmosphere, friendly personnel and very professional hotel director and managers.
The SPA is excellent in terms of dimensions, elegance and professional specialized personnel.
I really suggest to choose this resort if you decide to spend your holydays in Zanzibar.
A particular grateful to Samantha for her kindness, efficiency and for organizing my unforgettable birthday with masai dance, songs and cake.
The only regret: I would have been stay here lots of more days!!!!
I will come back!!!

Room Tip: All the rooms are sea view, anyway second floor rooms give you more panorama.

We spent ten nights at Hideaway after being on safari for four nights.
Firstly I would like to praise the staff, some people on trip advisor have moaned about the service, all I can say is that we found the service was very good, occasionally there was a slight wait but hey at the end of the day we were on holiday so where is the rush.
What I would say is that people should be ashamed of how they speak to the staff, my boyfriend and I on many occasions heard customers speaking in an appalling manner to staff. Just because people are in a serving role does not mean that they should be spoken to as servants and second class citizens. It is clear to see that the staff work very hard and long hours, never mind the journey to and from work, most of them coming from stone town.

We stayed in a luxury Jacuzzi suite which was just amazing, such a treat to have a hot tub, we spent most days lazing around our room, the view was lovely to look out at the ocean and seeing the comings and goings around the pool.

The grounds of the hotel are beautiful with such a lovely variety of plants, the gardeners are constantly working away to keep them so lovely.

We really enjoyed using the steam room at the spa every morning and then cooling of in the cold Jacuzzi.

All of the staff were wonderful, a few special mentions to the following:
A huge thank you to Abdallah who was our butler, he was a real pleasure to spend time with, nothing was too much trouble for him, he was an added bonus to our stay. He was very professional however warm and friendly at the same time. He made a lovely flower arrangement for my birthday. We saw Abdallah every day and looked forward to his visits.
Vivien the head butler runs a tight ship :-) and ensures that all our comforts were met, he would make sure that he visited us and if he saw us around the hotel made sure we wanted for nothing.
Our maid Sabina was just lovely, always smiley and happy, on my birthday she did a lovely surprise for me out of flower petals.
Lucas would come and clean our Jacuzzi every day, again a really friendly guy to see in the morning.
Elizabeth a waitress was so warm and friendly at every meal time.
Jeremiah bar supervisor was a great guy to spend time with.

The food at the restaurant was very nice and we found it varied, we overheard a couple moaning that it was too spicy, there were plenty of options and this really was a pointless moan. We ate at the carnivore restaurant and also the Japanese restaurant both were lovely, I highly recommend the springbok it was delicious.

We did a trip to stone town and prison island which was an interesting day.

Our overall experience of Hideaway was a really good one and we would recommend this hotel to anyone.

I have read the review dated 19/7 by Justine P, what I would say is that the beach bar is no further away from the sunbeds than a few metres, is it that difficult to walk to the bar to get your own drinks.

Future customers please remember that good manners go along way, we are guests in another country and should remember this.

we were travelling with our seven year old son and Chose this Hotel among other also because a Kids Club was mentioned in the Hotel description. The Hotel only opened recently so we could not find conclusive guest reports. The Hotel is in the luxury Segment, member of the Leading Hotels of the World and clearly putting in a Major effort. Guests have been from all western European countries such as Belgium, Germany, Great Britain, Norway.... and also from India and South Africa. The Russians, thank god, have not arrived yet.

Upon Arrival dedicated staff swarms upon you and your whims and wishes are striven to be fulfilled. The Hotel is set up in various buildings on a slope reaching down to the most beautiful sea. The distances between Bungalows and main main facilities such as pool, restaurant and reception can be quite Long but we did get a Change of the room without Major Problems as we wanted shorter distances. However, there are always electric carts available to drive you if you don´t mind waiting a few minutes.

The rooms are beautiful with spacious terraces and a great colour scheme and Setup. Mokito-nets are installed around the beds and turndown Service in the evening provides extra Moskito spray. You will still find your own Handy in the evenening in the open Restaurant. Facilities such as pool, Barss and Restaurant are beautiful and generously laid out. The Beach is clean, White sand and turquoise water, good to swim in at any Tide!

The all inclusive Arrangement is really all inclusive, also including most international Drinks that in other Hotels might be on extra Charge. Be sure to pack some nice clothes for Dinner as the Restaurants are clearly designed for the well groomed crowd. On top of the buffet dinner there is freshly made Pizza and Pasta on order available. However, the buffet does not provide any dishes designed for Kids and in one whole week we had not once French fries or chicken schnitzel or similar. My Boy resigned himself to Pizza twice a day...

The buffet is interesting and very different from what you might be used to from other AI buffets. You will find a great variety of vegetables and various Curry dishes, and only one or two meat or fish dishes. Fish is fresh and superbly cooked. Deep fried dishes are kept under lids and go mushy. Maybe they will install an open dish with Salamander at a later Point. Drinks are available in a very satisfying selection, even Espresso and cappuccino for breakfast can be ordered at a good quality.

Beach towels are exchanged the Moment you get up and don´t indicate you want to Keep them, also the linen and towels in the room are Exchange daily, sometimes twice a day. Even if you tell staff not to do so (being ever Aware of saving water and reducing detergent Dispense into the Environment), staff has no awareness of environmental ideas. Most guests will anyway be happy with there personal comfort being the foremost concern.

There is a playground for toddlers and the staff generally is very friendly towards Kids. However, dont´t put high hopes on the Kids Club. Apart from the fact that during Ramadan it is only open until 3pm the kid attendant will put your kid in front of the TV unless you forbid it (which makes her pull a face and leave earlier if you let her know where to find you...). Activities like dancing, Swimming or whatever you might know from Robinson or Club med are not planned in the Kids Club and it might be a bit difficult to entertain Kids apart from putting them in front of the TV. I am not elaborating on our experience there any further as I am confident that there will be a drastic improvement after our Intervention.

Also there is a very Basic Animation program for adults and we did not have a Chance to see the evening Shows as they only start at 9:30pm. There is, however, enough to do to spend your Time. They have a diving School in the Hotel that offers free test lessons and of course there are tours that you can book to explore the Island and the sea around it.

Be sure to bring anything up to guest Relations that does not make you happy because they will do their utmost to accommodate your wishes.

All in all, booking into this Hotel is a unique experience of being spoíled and looked after by extremely friendly people and enjoying the most beautiful Setting and facilities.

For hints and ideas about the Sansibar, tipps for tours or General Information what to expect, see my comments on the Place itself, to which I will come at a later Point of time.

I'm still here sitting in front of Aqua restaurant sipping on my Caramel Coffee and I'm saddened that I leave tomorrow. From the moment we got off the shuttle bus from the airport this place has been on point with everything. Clean, friendly, fun, relaxing, and treated like you were special.
The location and exterior of this resort is amazing. with breath taking ocean view and a lovely landscape. The lobby is beautifully done with African style and artifacts.service was excellent with some minor exceptions. Upon arrival,we were warmly greeted and assisted with checking in,which was effortless.
The rooms are nice and modern with great house keeping and when we need maintenance for a few minor issues, someone is there promptly. Staff going out of their way for guests, even when they don't have to and they exemplify the level of service for which Hide away Nungwi strives.
Restaurant and bars are impeccable, everything is a step above. The food is very good, out of all the All inclusives we have stayed at, Hide away Nungwi excells at food quality, the food service overall was very good with a nice variety. The beach is a A+,lots of activities. The pools area are brilliant designed and have a spectacular exterior, well maintained with great supervision and friendly staff.we had no problems getting towels or chairs and a life guard woyld come around and cleanup the towels.I had some spa treatments and would highly recommend the hand and foot treatments. The gym is quite big and is well equipped.
In summary, Hide Away Nungwi is a calming, peaceful oasis to come home to with staff that made our stay the most amazing experience. The atmosphere is comfortable and there are plenty of places to just relax on the property--whether in their lounge or in a chaise by the pool. And if anyone is looking for that "vibe" this resort fits the bill.
