“Good value for money!”
Reviewed January 7, 2013

What I liked:
1) Nice semi detached bungalows - spacious and clean
2) Really close to the beach
3) Nice beach and great sunset views

What I didn't like:
1) No WIFI in room
2) Electricity kept being interrupted - the longest time was for more than 6 hours as they have no generators
3) Really briny water in the shower - skin still felt sticky after shower
4) Strange staff - came to check on the TV, and subsequently carried the TV off without a word of explanation and not to be seen again.
5) Really far from reception area - which is where you need to ask for pool towels

Overall, for the price we paid, it was good value for money. Since we didn't have to work and be on computer, absence of WIFI was not a big deal. For those who need it, there is paid WIFI in the reception. Not that many channels on TV and with poor reception, the missing TV was fine with us. A bit of a long trek to LangiLangi for good reasonably priced food, but well worth it. So all things considered, we still enjoyed our stay at Ora Lodge.

Stayed at this hotel for 2 nights in October.
Pros: very friendly and hospitable staff, amazing beachfront area and beach, comfy and secure accommodations with huge bed and shower, delicious food in restaurant
Cons: nungwi beach is over 1 1/2 hour drive from airport/stonetown, restaurant onsite is pricey

Very much enjoyed our stay here, would come back - beautiful beach very relaxing

We stayed at Nungwi Lodge Ora Resort MyBlue for five nights at the end of our three week trip in Tanzania. Accommodation in Nungwi seemed expensive and we were delighted to be able to book MyBlue for just over 40GBP per night (room only).

Our initial decision was whether we should pay the additional amount for breakfast at the resort. We decided against this as there were plenty of places in Nungwi to eat and we were glad to be able to eat away from the resort. LangiLangi does an excellent breakfast buffet for 10,000 TSH and is only five minutes away.

The resort itself is predominantly visited by Italian all-inclusive holiday-makers. It very much caters towards the Italian visitors; any reps on site are Italian and many of the notices are written in Italian. This isn't a problem but if you are English-speaking and looking to meet new people, perhaps this resort wouldn't be ideal - you'd be more likely to meet people in Nungwi itself.

The room we stayed in (308) was only a thirty second walk from the private beach area that the resort has created. This area is only accessible to western customers - any hawkers are banned from entry. This makes for a more relaxing atmosphere. If you visit to public beach, you'll iommediately be hassled by vendors selling everything from carvings to sunset cruises. It gets a bit tiring after a while as they even follow you in to the sea to speak to you. After a while they remember who is more receptive and who isn't and they will leave you alone. This is a problem in the whole of Nungwi though, not exclusive to this resort.

The room itself was well-appointed and had a mosquito net which the staff turned down every evening and put up in the morning. They also visited the room each evening to spray for mosquitos.

The bathroom was large and had his and hers sinks which was a nice touch. One thing we didn't appreciate was the salt-water showers. The water from the taps/sinks was fresh water yet the showers were salt water - we couldn't understand why. Also, the temperature of the shower fluctuated day-by-day - sometimes it was hot, sometimes it was luke-warm. The bed itself was a massive king-size and very comfortable - no complaints there.

The hotel charges 5 EUR per day for wifi access which we thought was a little steep. There is a mini gym and pool table which we made us of. We didn't eat in the hotel so couldn't comment on the quality of the food. There is a swimming pool and a water jacuzzi which we didn't really use.

The tide comes in and out twice a day (in at 8AM and 4PM four about three hours a time when we visited in September). The sea is crystal clear, like glass but the water is a little colder than on the east coast of the island.

When the tide is out, you can walk down the beach to Nungwi town centre. We ate at Flame Tree Cottages, Cinnamon, Magi's and LangiLangi - all were of a good quality. When the tide is in, you must walk through each resort to make your way up the coast. There are little wooden gates which you can open to walk through.

Water at the resort was 2 EUR a bottle and a Sprite was 1.50 EUR. We paid in TSH when checking out.

If you don't book breakfast with your room, it is 10 EUR per person - very steep for what it was. Go to LangiLangi instead.

All-in-all, for the price we paid we were happy with our stay at MyBlue. It is a little out of the way of the other places (20 minutes to Flame Tree Cottages and 10 minutes to LangiLangi if walking through the resorts) but we were happy with the walk. For a similar price we found out that we could have stayed at Amani Bungalows which looked very nice and was in a better location - I'd suggest pricing the two!

A little tip - save paying ~45 USD for a taxi to Stone Town and take one of the local dalla-dallas for 2,500 TSH per person. Ask the hotel how to get to the main road (ten minutes walk away) and flag a dalla-dalla with number 116 in the window. You want to go in the direction to your right as you approach the main road. Jump on and hand over the money when requested.
