Spent 4 nights in June and it was excellent! i don't often stay in luxurious places but this most definitely was luxury. Great staff- from the security guards and housekeeping staff who always had a smile and good chat through to the management who couldn't have been more accommodating and very helpful when it came to helping us with onward travel plans. A great location away from the main huddle of hotels too. Good food and quality cocktails helped round off some hard days relaxing next to a cracking little pool.

Room Tip: There are only a few rooms and all were excellent. Course the incredible suites/bungalows are the pl...

l have just spent a most wonderful week at the Zanzibari Hotel, in Nungwi. Don't be put off by the approach road which is a bit bumpy, as from the moment the gates are opened by the welcoming Masai Mara warriors, you realise this is a little bit of paradise. The hotel has eight rooms and two suites, we had one of the rooms which was spacious, comfortable and spotlessly clean and staff came in every day to maintain this high standard. We had a stunning view of the beach and Indian ocean from our balcony.

The bar, an impressive structure of a Dhow, the lounge and dining area were open, wecoming and comfortable and made it very easy to spend time enjoying the delicious cocktails and mouth watering food. The chefs are to be complemented on the quality and variety of the meals - I have special dietary requirements which they catered for with no problem. One night we had a seven course buffet of typical Swahilli food followed by Masai warrior dancing and acrobatics by local children which was breathtaking.

The grounds and private beach are beautiful and you can spend hours enjoying both, head off for walks along the beach when the tide is out - don't miss the aquarium, walk to nearby villages or go on numerous trips such as Prison Island, the spice tour, a sunset cruise and scuba diving, which the staff are only too pleased to arrange for you.

This was a magical experience from start to finish, the hotel staff are so helpful and friendly and can't do enough to ensure you have a wonderful time. We had friends who were staying at one of the more commercial hotels in Nungwi while we were there and although their hotel was very nice, they spent more time with us in the Zanzibari as they felt it had more atmosphere and a wonderful setting. It goes without say that they were made welcome too !!

I have just returned home having spent 11 nights at The Zanzibari. I stayed at different hotels on the island 2 years ago but in my opinion The Zanzibari outsmarts all its rivals. It is a perfect size, it has lovely accommodation and the food is the best I have EVER eaten in Africa. Every night there was a different menu and the chefs are to be congratulated! The staff are superb - each and every one. All so friendly and hejpful and eager to please. We were also treated to a ''local'' food night with local entertainment - Paul the manager arranged this for us and it was a total success. Another night we had a six course meal - once again the chefs were totally amazing. Breakfasts and lunches were also delicious. The pasta is amazing!

The Zanzibari is quiet and that is a huge bonus, It is an ideal chill-out hotel. Absolutely no need to go anywhere else! If you wish more to do and see it is only a 20 minute walk from Nungwi. Here you can find all the activities you want. However, The Zanzibari can organise ANYTHING you wish and will do so with pleasure. Nothing is too much trouble for them. I like to think that one day I'll return to Zanzibar and I'd definitely stay here again. With thanks to Paul, Johnny and all the team. Sue x

Room Tip: All rooms are lovely and I would be happy in any of them. If you want a good wireless connection tho...

After a wonderful, week-long safari on the mainland, we flew to Zanzibar and spent four wonderful nights there. The property is located in a quiet part of Nungwi and away from the hustle and bustle of the touristy stuff. The staff was very friendly and took great pains to meet all of our needs. The food was not typical of hotel meals and was so good that we rarely ate off-site. The small size of the property gave it a home-like feel and we felt more like residents than guests. This may not be the ideal location for high energy people who need every minute of their time filled. However, it was perfect for some like me who enjoys just relaxing while I am on vacation. The tides, rocks, and sea urchins can sometimes make this a challenging beach, but there are several pools on the grounds and it's possible to walk to other beaches. Additionally, plan to get up early to watch the sunrise of forget time while lounging in the sand and watching the fishermen go out to see in their homemade wood Dhows. The open air dining and bar areas made for a truly island feel. I stayed in one of the villas and enjoyed sleeping alfresco.

The Zanzibari has a small, family-run atmosphere but still offers excellent facilities and wonderful food. There is not a great deal to do around the hotel so its either package excursions or settling for lazy relaxation in the gardens or at the 'beach' which is not actually a beach as such but more of a sandy area on a small clifftop. Access to the sea and the actual beach is a bit of a challenge but the view and the setting are better than a 'normal' beach in my opinion.

We stayed @ The Zanzibari on a recent trip to Zanzibar post safari. We wanted to spend a few days in Nungwi and the Zanzibari was perfect for us. It's a quiet, smaller property with alot of really nice touches. Our room was spacious and very comfortable. The meals were good and the service was really good. The best part of the stay was just lounging on the sun chairs facing the amazing, beautiful turquoise waters ...

This is the perfect place to relax after a safari. Nice quiet hotel with only 10 rooms and a lovely large garden with plenty of sun loungers scattered around it never feels busy.
The restaurant/bar area looks amazing and the food is excellent. Yes, the beach is not the best we have come across but the gardens more than make up for it. The snorkelling trip to a nearby nature reserve is well organised and worth doing - lots of nice looking fish to see.
