The Z Hotel Zanzibar
Ranked #1 of 17 Hotels in Nungwi
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed October 15, 2013

We were booked for 3 nights at Z hotel, but had to leave early due to an emergency back home, so we stayed only for 1 night. The hotel and the service were excellent.
The rooms were bright, nicely decorated and clean. The bathroom was a bit small, but modern and clean as well. They have an infinity pool which looks like it's going off into the ocean. It was really beautiful.
The service is excellent. I gave some laundry in at 6 pm and needed it back the next morning as were leaving, and they had it ready for me by 9 am. Also, we were booked on "half board" - breakfast and dinner were included in our stay. Because my husband and I were leaving early, we asked if we could use the credits towards lunch instead, and they accommodated that request, no problem. Our friends were also able to use our credits for their lunch meal.
The hotel was safe, and is surrounded by other resorts.
This hotel is located in the northern part of the island. It takes about 1.25 hours to get to the airport, just FYI.

We stayed at the Z-hotel for a week, after three weeks of travelling in Kenya. It was great!

From the first moment we walked into the hotel till when we departed, the staff was very warm and kind. Everyone wants to ensure you as guest are more than comfortable and enjoy the stay.

Rooms were really nice and very clean, as the rest of the hotel. Restaurant and bar area were great as well.

We flew in to Dar the day before and took the ferry to Zanzibar. the hotel picked us up from the ferry and whisked us back ( 1 hour) The hotel is lovely, arriving through the tiny lanes of Nungwi we were welcomed at the hotel door and shown around the hotel then to our room with a stunning view of the beach and the sunset. We ate in the hotel restaurant the first night and the food was excellent we were staying on a B&B deal so the other evenings we wandered the beach and tried all the different restaurants, seafood was great, so fresh, as we watched the fishing fleet of sailing dhows sail off each evening and return in the mornings to sell their fish in the beach market just a short walk from the hotel. The village was interesting and the locals very friendly and welcoming . So much more than staying in a resort we felt close to the heart of things ....if spoilt rotten!

Room Tip: Our room was sea view on the second floor. the penthouses had a jacuzzi and huge balcony but I don...

Had the pleasure to stay here in July 2013. Was warmly met at the lobby by Julie, in charge of guest relations. Before going on to review the hotel, let me just say what a difference it makes to have a guest relations manager who obviously enjoys her job and is concerned about the happiness of her guests. Julie made every effort to make our stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible, to the extent that a special little party was arranged for my birthday - by that time we had become friends with Julie and the rest of the management team.

The hotel is optimally situated on the beach with an actual, usable beach of fine, white sand - other hotels lose their beaches during high tide. The layout of the hotel, is a bit cramped but well designed, with the pool centrally located with a poolside bar and an excellent view of the daily, amazing sunsets.

There are two restaurants and both of them served excellent food, with a good variety of cuisines and dishes - with of course, a lot of seafood. There was always at least one local dish available on the menu, which usually ended up being my choice as Zanzibari cuisine is an excellent mixture of African and Indian styles, so usually nice and spicy but not too rich.

The rooms are well appointed with satellite tv, bathroom amenities, hair dryer, a safe, split a/c, terrace, iPod sound dock, fridge, coffee/tea and a lovely four poster bed with mosquito netting.

Rooms were always well cleaned despite the fact that I constantly tracked in sand from the beach.

Z hotel's location in Nungwi is ideal, as it allows you to walk up and down the beach to get to other restaurants and bars.

You will also find on site a tour guide office (we opted for the spice tour and sunset cruise - both excellent) and there is also a dive center that is well equipped and accredited - the diving is amazing!! Also got a massage at the onsite spa - nice facility but the massage was not up to par with the rest of the hotel's offerings.

All in all, one of my favorite vacation spots.

Room Tip: For those of you trying to decide on which side of Zanzibar to visit - stick with the west coast. Th...

The hotel is just superb! Very stylish and quality, great and very kind staff and service.
Rooms are very clean and kind to stay in.
The swimming pool is not big but lovely (infinity pool) surrounded by trees.
The sea view from the rooms is great, you can see the whole Nungwi beach right infront of you.

There is also a private beach for the hotel. You can swim at the sea (the water is high, unlike other places in Zanzibar) and the tide is not very disturbing over there...
The hotel has two good resteraunts, and many other places to eat around (within 1-5 minutes walk you can get more than 10)

Snorkling and diving from the hotel is very recommend! (Mnemba / Tumbato) - but you also have a selection around the hotel for other companies.
The Spa is very quality! The price is like europe (50$ for 1 hour) , but very good and nice and clean rooms for the massage (you can also get outside near the pool and the beach..)

Overall , the other reviews do not lie.. this is a great place to stay in if you want some relax, quality, romantic place, and still have everything around (snorkel / spa / food / markets - you got a lot of selections)

Recommended!

Room Tip: If you order a sea view room (which is great anyway), ask for a free upgrade to a Roof Top Suite. Ev...

Beautiful beach and lovely location. Very friendly and helpful service. Excellent breakfast with the most stunning view. Standard rooms are not very big and the bathroom is really a bit small, but the interiour of the room is still lovely and nicely designed. Pool and beach area are well care for, clean and towels are available at the pool. Very nice is the happy hour at the beach. Lovely place, we enjoyed our stay a lot. We will definately come again.
