“Lovely Hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 3, 2013

Beautiful beach and lovely location. Very friendly and helpful service. Excellent breakfast with the most stunning view. Standard rooms are not very big and the bathroom is really a bit small, but the interiour of the room is still lovely and nicely designed. Pool and beach area are well care for, clean and towels are available at the pool. Very nice is the happy hour at the beach. Lovely place, we enjoyed our stay a lot. We will definately come again.

5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 28, 2013

We stayed 5 nights at the Z Hotel, arriving from the mainland having been on safari. There was a problem with our pick-up at the airport, but we got there in a taxi. Julie is an absoluite treasure - she sorted out about our transfer and many other queries we had. She was in constant touch with us and I can't thank her enough. My friend wanted an additional plug, the memory foam mattress topping removed - all this was done with no problem and quickly.
The room we had looked out on the beach, but shaded by the palm trees, so no view. This actually suited us fine, as we could sit on the balcony in the middle of the day to avoid the heat and sun. Some may complain at lack of view, but it was an advantage to us.
We went up to the top floor to see the view. The beach is just amazing with the tide coming in and out. While we were there there was a bit of seaweed on the beach, but not a problem, you could wade through it quite quickly. There were a few tiny jellyfish which pricked you now and again - but left no sting.
My friend hit her foot on a sea urchin and the staff at reception were exceedingly helpful in providing the local cure of vinegar and papaya milk, administered wearing surgical gloves - what service!
The beds in our room had the most imaginative decoration of flowers and leaves scattered over them - different each night of our stay. Mosquito nets over the beds for added protection.
There were T.V. screens above over the beds, under the nets - not that we looked at it much.
There was a safe in the room, a 'fridge, and teas and coffee making facilities.
The room was large, as was the bathroom with walk in shower and all the usual facilities.
We thought the breakfast was amazing - such a variety to choose from, and freshly made eggs whatever way you wanted them, together with other hot options, including pancakes. We loved the fresh fruit and juices.
Twice we ate in the Saruche terrace restaurant for dinner in the evening, which you have to book, looking out on the sea and beach, and once we had lunch at Cinnamon on the terrace above. The food was very good.
Other times we tried restaurants along the beach and enjoyed them too.
We liked the loungers on the beach just below the pool so that we could go down to the sea for a swim. We also tried the infinity pool, which was quite small, and used to train scuba divers at times. Cocktails at sunset by the pool should not be missed.
The situation of the hotel is perfect, lovely beach, plenty of places to walk along when the tide is not fully in. When the tide is fully in you can walk behind the hotel through other hotels, also useful after dark. We walked down to the Aquarium and I went on a walking tour of the village while my friend stayed in the shade at a cafe. The village was well worth seeing, together with the fish market and boat builders.
When we were leaving we asked Julie if she could find out if it was feasible for us to have a spice tour on our way to Stonetown. This she organised, and we were delighted to learn that it was free, owing to the mix up at the airport on arrival with our transfer!
The staff at the hotel are very polite and friendly, and even on the beach, while you are greeted all the time, it is not overpowering and hassling.
Definitely would recommend this hotel - nice to get a smaller place.

Room Tip: We had room 8 which was shaded by the palm trees and you did not get a view of the beach, but cool i...

Thank you so much for taking the time & trouble to post such a kind review. It was an absolute pleasure to assist you with your transfer problem. We have ensured that we have designated telephone numbers for most if not all ground handlers that transport our guests to the hotel so can intervene if problems do occur, thankfully very rarely. It was great that you made the most of the local area as well as enjoying the facilities of the hotel-Nungwi is a beautiful place & should be explored.

Best wishes

The fact it is a small boutique hotel of 38 rooms, means that you get personal attention from the staff and within hours you feel at home. Friendly but never in your face. Beautiful room with a comfortable bed and amazing view, loved the beach and going on long beach walks became a routine. Yes, you meet people who want you to buy their souvenirs or art but nobody is pushy and everybody loves to just chat. I loved swimming in the ocean, although many tourists preferred the pool, either way everything is close and cosy and just where you need it to be!

Many thanks for your thoughtful review. We're so happy that you felt so at home while here as this is our aim & being a relatively small boutique hotel allows us the pleasure of interacting with our guests as much or as little as they wish.

The Z Hotel blew any expectation we had out of the water! I'm in Marketing and I expect any hotels website pictures to be slightly exaggerated but NO! The location is paradise!

There really are soooo many good things to say about this place! the staff are so very friendly, and we had the warmest welcome ever by Julie and the team when we arrived at midnight. Our room was beautifully looked after daily. The pool area is one of the best features of the hotel in our opinion, and the food is to die for.

We spent 9 nights here during our honeymoon and were devastated to leave! The attention we received was superb and not just because we were honeymooners but because the hotel is small enough to care about its guests.

This is a PERFECT hotel to relax and unwind and also perfectly located on Nungwi beach that if you want to experience a little extra outside the hotel its all there....plenty of bars and restaurants to chose from, all which are sport mad for anyone looking for a Premiership football game!!

This hotel suited our personalities to a T. If you're looking for 5 star boutique and classy experience and variety outside of the hotel then Z Hotel is for you!

We were offered many large hotel complexes to stay at in Zanzibar and having taken a boat trip along the coast we saw many of these complexes where you're unable to swim on the beach, and that looked lifeless and totally cut off from any life outside the hotel. We are SO GLAD we made the decision to stay at the Z.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 32, it has a magnificant view of the pool area and beach, and one we were told was...

A big thank you for a wonderful review. It’s always fantastic to hear that we have created a lasting memory especially when it coincides with a honeymoon. We’re so glad that you made the most of the surrounding area as well as enjoying the facilities within the hotel. As stated, we are in the very lucky position of being close to other establishments that can be reached quickly & safely. We’d love to see you back at Z Hotel again one day, maybe for an anniversary.

Z Hotel is stylish and comfortable. The staff are very friendly and welcoming, always have a smile on their faces, and nothing is a problem, even when you arrive at midnight 3 hours later than expected. The restaurant is the perfect place for breakfast while enjoying the view of the picture perfect turquoise water and white sandy beach. It is a great place to stay after a couple of weeks on Safari in the Serengeti.

This should be on #1 in Tripadvisor. It is really paradise. It is just on the beach and this beach happens to be the most beautiful and unspoilt beach I have ever been. The rooms were very large, comfortable and with gorgeous views to the sea. The staff was always available. Food was great but there are so many great restaurants on the island that we booked just bed and breakfast and always had a meal in a different spot. Highly recommended.
