Ant's Hill & Ant's Nest

We had stayed at Ant's Nest several years ago and absolutely loved it!! We decided to try Ant's Nest this time as sometimes your expectations on a return trip can be too high. We just fell into this beautiful place and did not want to leave. The accommodation is probably a little better at the Hill compared to the Nest and the views amazing. However, we felt we had better riding experiences at the Nest. We saw very little wildlife during our rides at the Hill (this may have been just luck or lack of) however, when we rode at the Nest there seemed to be wild life everywhere. I also felt the experience at the Nest seemed more personal than at the Hill. I feel that Ant's Nest is probably more suited to younger children if you are taking children. However, absolutely cannot fault Ants Hill and would love to return.

Thank you for your great review. it is always nice to hear when guests come back. As it is one open reserve the animals move around so it might have just been a it of bad luck with the game viewing when you were there but we hope to see you again

We visited Ants hill with huge expectations as we had two sets of friends visit and rave about it, this can be dangerous!
Both Chris and I can't fault Ants at all, it was just perfect in everyway, from location, to wildlife, to riding, the food and naturally the staff who are all gems.
We met other guests who became friends as did members of the staff who were all superb but a very special thank you has to go to Naomi, Henno and Penny who really do go that extra mile (not to say the others don't!) This was supposed to be a 5 year plan to return but we are doing it in three as we really can't ever imagine beating it!
Perfect..... thank you to all involved for the best memories EVER!

I spent a full week there, being split 5 days at Ant's nest and 2 at Ant's hill.
Basically, you wake up at the time you asked to have your wake up call (someone brings tea or coffee to you bedroom), you have breakfast, have your activities, lunch, you chill out by the swimming pool, have tea, have your activities, go to a sundowner, have dinner and chat by a camp fire with drinks.

Everything is catered for by professional and genuinely kind people. This probably was one of the most relaxing weeks in my life.

Staff are extremely nice and know what they're talking about. They will answer all your questions and make sure you feel good. I was their only guest for a day. I was offered to do a game ride tailored to me. In the evening, 2 of them had dinner with me, chatted with me... They make this place feel very homey. I don't know if they'll read this comment but I'll just say thank you very much to them as these lodges wouldn't be the same without them.

Horses are very well trained. I could ride a few of them and all of them were easy to ride, balanced, responsive... They are fit and willing to carry you on their backs. They are set free after each ride and they come back for the next ride on their own.

I had game drives, game rides, and game walks. Each of these were great. There are loads of games to see and I could get very close to them - I could even touch a rhino... from behind a fence! :-)
Landscapes are amazing and everyday you're taken to a different place for sundowners. Chairs and drinks are expecting you.

Food was amazing. Everyday, I was served extremely tasty meals. Starters, main meals, and deserts were delicious. I barely eat seafood and I found prawns there were really good because they were well prepared.

Lodges are just amazing. I stayed in two different rooms and each of them were perfect. The bed was large and comfy, the bathroom was equipped with a shower and a bathtub. The view from my room at Ant's hill was breathtaking. There is a swimming pool on each site for everyone and at Ant's hill, there are smaller swimming pools for the family units.

I'm looking forward to going back there!

We are just coming back from South Africa to Switzerland! Ant's Hill is a fabulous place in a private reserve, the lodge is perfect for a couple or a family with children. Everything is nicely decorated and very comfortable. You are nicely welcomed. There is a nice pool to relax between two games. But what I really appreciated was the kindness of the staff, specially a big thanks to Merlin, Steve and Leroux! They made our stay a very enjoyable moment! We saw lots of animals, we were never disappointed. The horse riding is a special experience! you don't need to be a good rider, the horses are very calm and used to the other animals. To be able to watch a girafe at 10 meters from a horse is great! The food is excellent, breakfast, lunch dinner and even a different tea time cake every day is just incredible! we will definitively try to come back and stay even longer than 3 nights because you really feel as being part of the Ant's "family" when you stay there! It was a great stay and thanks again for all these memorable sunset drinks at different places...

We have just returned from a 5 night stay at Ant's Hill in the Waterberg region of South Africa. This was quite simply a stunning vacation. It was our first safari experience and, whilst we had slight reservations that this did not include lions due to the horse riding aspect of this safari, our doubts were expelled as the horse riding aspect allowed us to view the game(including White rhino, buffalo, giraffe, zebra, sable, wilder beast, warthogs, antelopes, baboons, jackal, brown hyena, porcupine, exotic birds) from a unique and close perspective. The location, accommodation, staff, food, variety of of wild game on offer and the horses(all levels of experience are accommodated and encouraged)
provided us with a truly memorable experience which will live with us for a very long time. Karen,Graham and Emily Watson.

Room Tip: All rooms; lodges were stunning.

We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday at Ant's Hill - in fact, it was one of the most enjoyable holiday experiences we have ever had.

The location, staff, accommodation, food, horses and activities exceeded expectations and we were genuinely sad to say farewell to everyone there. We were extremely well looked after by the team at Ant's - the food was delicious, our cottage just fabulous and the atmosphere relaxed, personal and genuinely friendly.

For horse lovers, the riding was fun, the horses well trained and well behaved. Without doubt, being on horseback was the best way to get up close to the wild animals and we were never disappointed with the game viewing.

We look forward to returning to Ant's Hill some day.

Room Tip: For peace and quiet and a great view of the bush, book either the Lookout or Hideaway cottages.
