“South Africa at its best!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 31, 2012

My boyfriend and myself chose Ants Hill and Ants Nest to celebrate my 21st birthday, it was such an amazing trip! Being our first trip to South Africa we instantly fell in love with the country and even more with Ants Hill and Nest. We stayed 2 nights in Ants Nest where we had our own lodge...all the rooms are finished so lovely and are very clean and comfortable, we then moved to Ants Hill for 3 nights where we had 'Honeymoon 2' lodge...which was amazing! We had a massive bed, a bath tub looking out over the bush as well as an indoor and outdoor shower, we also had a large veranda with sofa/dining table etc.
The staff (family!) at both Ants Nest and Ants Hill are exceptional and make your holiday so special and comfortable, the guides are friendly and knowledgeable and the cooks are a real credit to both lodges. We ate a delicious 3 course meal every night, lunch was also just as big as the evening meal and there was a great choice at breakfast. A fresh cake was baked by the ladies everyday to accompany tea before your afternoon ride :) Your very spoilt!!
We are both keen riders and enjoyed riding twice a day very much, the horses are so lovely, very responsive and eager to please. We had some amazing long rides into the bush, and got close to many animals...our favourite being the giraffe and wart hogs!
I hope our holiday wasn't a 'once in a lifetime' trip because I would love to return. Both Ants Hill and Nest are such friendly, relaxing yet exciting places...it really is a must for anyone that loves horses or wants a taste of South Africa.
Thank you to everyone for making our holiday so special! X

Superbe lodge, we were at Ant's Hill and will return ! Views are spectacular, every detail was thought through, the decoration is perfect. Not all big five are to be seen but if that is not a must for you, this place should be. Game drive or game ride on horses, a whole new experience. Food is excellent as was the service. Schedules are flexible which is great as it allows you to either sleep in if you want or need to and to take advantage of the chalets and just look out into the veld.

Room Tip: Any; all are private and superbe.

We have just spent our honeymoon split between Ant's Hill and Ant's Nest. This was a holiday of a lifetime! Everybody made us feel so welcome. The staff, food, accommodation and activities are superb. What can be more idyllic than an afternoon ride followed by sundowners in the bush!

I have just returned from yet another spectacular weekend at Ant's Hill. On this occasion we were there as a group of five families celebrating a dear friends fiftieth birthday. Our group included young children, a couple of teenagers and a good selection of 40 – 50 year old adults. It certainly is a luxury having an entire lodge to oneself but what made it so very special was the flexibility of the staff. They effortlessly catered for everyone’s wishes. They managed to put the keen cyclists in our group through their paces, the kiddies on ponies, the experienced riders enjoyed more serious rides and the less adventurous of us enjoyed lovely long bush walks each day. Not sure how they co-ordinated it all, but somehow we would all end up, in the middle of the bush enjoying a picnic lunch, or on top of a hill watching the sun set. The highlight of the weekend was the 50th celebration itself and again the team at Ant’s Hill could not have been more accommodating. They gave us free reign to hold our special dinner in the location of our choice, to decorate as we saw fit, play our own music and dance the night away. Nothing was too much trouble. A more ideal location for a celebration would be hard to find.

I stayed here for a week. I travelled on my own and had the most brilliant time. The standard of accomodation, food, staff, service and attention to detail is just perfect. It is a truly personal experience. The lodge is beautifully decorated and the food is devine. The most amazing views and game rides. Every level of experience is catered for and nothing is too much trouble. The sister lodge (Ant's Nest) is equally as good. I returned today and will be booking the same for next this week.

Room Tip: All room sare fantastic with wonderful views.

I had a wonderful stay at Ant's Hill with my husband and children. We don't ride but after two days we were cantering everywhere. We are now totally hooked! The guides were fabulous and all activities are catered around what the guests want to do and when. The atmosphere is relaxed and so friendly. Food delicious and the view over the reserve, absolutely stunning. We stayed in the new two storey cottage with private plunge pool and it really was a special stay. Luckily we saw giraffe, eland, zebra, sable, rhino, buffalo, wildebeest, impala, warthog etc all really close up and really valued the guides knowledge of the bush. We loved the sundowners, each night somewhere different - all the staff were so kind. Ant's Hill is a beautiful lodge. We saw Ant's Nest too but I'm glad we were at the Hill because the view shouldn't be missed. Also, by having your own little cottage, you have a bit more privacy. We also enjoyed chatting to the guests and different hosts at dinner each night. It is lovely that all the staff take turns at joining guests at mealtimes. Thank you to Chase, Sueline, Nick, Yan, Dan, Clous, Heno, and all of you, I'm sorry for forgetting all your names! Desperate to go back sometime. A memorable holiday, right up there in our "best" list!!

Travelled with my family (husband & 3 children, 18, 13 & 9) and stayed at the Hill. I used to ride a lot, my 9 year old daughter is learning, I was slightly apprehensive how it would work for us all. There was no need to worry we had an amazing time, even if you have never sat a horse before. The guides are so fantastic at choosing the correct horse for you & pitching the ride to your capabilities. My family are converts, more riding holidays for us. However it's not just about the riding in the bush, but the whole package, all the staff are amazing, nothing is too much trouble. The atmosphere is very relaxed and laid back, my 18 year old loved it. The food is fab, rooms beautiful, sundowners at the most awesome spots, fellow guests, (thank you for allowing me to ride out with you)' all contributed to a wonderful experience for us, wished we could have stayed longer. We hope to be back. A very special thank you for organising the forwarding on of our bag, we really, really appreciate it.

Room Tip: Original family cottage perfect if have children
